Reviews of glasgow caledonian
Caledonian is a good university.
Review of Glasgow Caledonian University by
il_cacciatore
Advantages: Central location, good facilities and good choice of courses
Disadvantages: Only two cash machines (ATMs) for 15000 students
...I am a level four student on the Building Surveying course at Glasgow Caledonian University.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Glasgow Caledonian is located on one campus on Cowcadden's Road across from Buchanan Street Bus Station in Glasgow. The University is quite young as it was Glasgow Polytechnic until 1993 when it became a fully fledged university.
The university has 90 undergraduate courses and 40 post graduate courses with over 14,000 students currently studying with 1500 staff.
It comprises of a number of 'schools':
School of Built and Natural Environment
School of business

School of Engineering, Science and Design
School of Health and Social Care

BA Law and Administrative Studies (pat-time)
Review of Glasgow Caledonian University (Faculties) - Dept. of Law and Public Administration by
boadicea22
Advantages: Small classes, interesting and varied topics, meeting new people, sense of achievement.
Disadvantages: No social life for weeks on end!
...I have just finished my first year studying this course at Glasgow Caledonian University. This review is specifically about the part-time course, although a full-time course is also available which is completed in three years.
For those people who are in full-time employment or don’t have the time to study during the day, have an interest in law or wish to pursue a career in it, then this is the course for you. But beware – if you have aspirations of becoming a solicitor or advocate – this is not a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) and is not recognised by the Law Society of Scotland for exemption for their exams. A part-time Bachelor of Laws degree is offered at the University of Strathclyde, although it is more time-consuming, more expensive and takes far longer to complete!
The course costs £840 a year. The classes meet two...

Glasgow's Alive
Review of Glasgow in general by
helencbradshaw
Advantages: Vibrant, City of Culture
Disadvantages: None
...Gosh, I am bored this afternoon. It’s a holiday, and I feel I should be doing something, however my hubby is working all afternoon, and so I have been a little lazy. I even watched the Brazil Turkey match this morning, without being forced to. Anyway, continuing in the theme of Travel reviews, I would thought I would write about a town that is a little more closer to home that my last few opinions!
I live on the West Coast of Scotland, and it is about 45 minutes drive on a good day, to reach the town of Glasgow. I first moved to Scotland in 1993, and so I have had plenty of opportunity to sample the shopping, nightlife and culture in this town.
Getting to Glasgow
-----------------------
Well, if you like you can fly in. Glasgow International Airport is about twelve miles west of the city, and has great links via the M8...

Travel to Scotland in a Scottish tradition!
Review of Caledonian Sleepers by ScotRail by
MikeLB
Advantages: Unique, Grand, Comfortable, Good use of time
Disadvantages: Reliability, Punctuality, Poor Lounges
...The Caledonian Sleepers are run by First Scotrail after the past 7 years of National Express ownership and offer the unique experience of basically travelling by train to the other end of the UK while you sleep in a bed! Its not quite the Orient Express but it is still something you have to experience if you plan a trip to Scotland, or indeed fancy a trip to London for some sightseeing.
One of the beauties of the service, especially heading south, is you arrive slap bang in the centre of the city / town you are visiting, and avoid all the hassle and expense of airport transfers, taxi's, trains etc. I mean, how much more into London do you want to get than Euston station!
National Express really worked hard to improve the sleepers with a number of innovations and cabin upgrades over the past 7 years, and they are now hugely popular...

Glasgow Tries Harder Updated 3/04 (scroll down)
Review of Glasgow in general by
mark-southside
Advantages: unexpected, value
Disadvantages: not picture postcard pretty
...This is not just a list of tourist sights but I hope to tell you more about the city and its culture. I am not a native of the city so I think I am unbiased.
Where to start? It is not an easy place to visit as a tourist. In Edinburgh you are force fed tourist sights whilst the locals are fairly ungrateful for you spending all your dosh. But Edinburgh looks nice.
If you haven't a clue about what to see in Glasgow, the first stop is the Tourist Board in George Sq (close to Queen St station) or their web site. This is also where the open-top bus tours start from. Compare deals, some tour tickets are valid for 48 hours not just one day.
Coming into Glasgow by train or motorway you are immediately aware of the grim housing schemes that encircle much of the place. It seemed a good idea post-war to knock down all the unheathy tenements...

The Palace for Glasgow's people
Review of People´s Palace (Glasgow) by
duskmaiden
Advantages: some great exhibits, free, the Winter Gardens
Disadvantages: Some tatty exhibits
...Glasgow, the dear green place is a city I know fairly well and love. One of the main reasons I love the city is the people. They really make the place, as they are down to earth, friendly and genuine. The Glaswegians make Glasgow. Due to this I have always wanted to go to the People’s Palace, a museum dedicated to the ordinary citizens of this wonderful city, but I have never got the chance to do so until this weekend when I was up visiting some friends in Glasgow.
The People’s Palace is a social history museum dedicated to Glasgow and its population since 1750 that coincides with Glasgow’s trade in tobacco just before the first blossomings of the industrial revolution, which made Glasgow the city that it is today. I have been to a number of social history museums of varying quality (they tend to all have a mangle, washboard...

School of Hard Knockers
Review of Glasgow University by
kfingleton
Advantages: Top class University in pleasent setting
Disadvantages: Cold and wet weather
...to scratch (except for the Joseph Black building) and there is a gym for pumping iron in too.
The main building stands majestically when the sun pays the city the occasional visit (and I mean occasional), this area of the city can be very pleasant. All the halls of residence are situated relatively close by and Byres Road and Great Western Road are very close for shopping needs. The city is very friendly in general, it is the UK’s second best for shopping and of course there is the famed football clubs (i.e. Jaggy Thistle). Of course there are areas of social deprivation, but hopefully an effective Scottish Labour government can help improve the city’s poverty rate and high crime rate.
But back to the positive we must go, because Glasgow uni is a wonderful place, far better than Strathclyde and Caledonian. The cost of living...

A Review of the Holiday Inn Express Glasgow
Review of Holiday Inn Express (Glasgow) by

Holiday Inn Express (Glasgow) - Right in the Heart of the City
Visitors to Glasgow will find this the perfect base from which to see the sights. It is next to the Buchanan Galleries shopping centre and virtually next door to the huge 7 floor UGC cinema. (This gets very busy in the evenings, so I would advise placing a booking earlier in the day.) The Burrell Collection is within walking distance. It's especially handy for a short city break when you don't have much time to travel from the hotel into the city centre. There is, however, less easy access to new visitor attractions...

Glasgow - Dear Green Place
Review of Glasgow (Scotland) by
rustifer
Advantages: Cheap bus travel, free entry to many attractions, great restaurants, bars and concert venues
Disadvantages: The bars close at midnight, it's very cold in the winter
...The name Glasgow means dear green place and, as far as I'm concerned, it couldn't be more accurate.
I've lived in Glasgow most of my life, except for a 10 year period during which I worked in France, Italy, Portugal, Turkey and Tunisia so I know a good thing when I see it and Glasgow is definitely one of the nicest places to live in.
For a start it has more green area, i.e. parks, than any other city in Britain but for me one of the best things about it is that most of the museums and places of interest cost nothing to visit. I've had many foreign friends over to stay in Glasgow and they are always amazed by that (and the free toilet facilities!).
It used to be quite expensive to get around Glasgow using public transport but now that First Bus have introduced an all day ticket, which costs as little as £1.80 at the weekend...

Gateway to Glasgow and Scotland
Review of Glasgow, Scotland (GLA) by
ultras67
Advantages: Local, dont need to fly from English airports. Good road connections
Disadvantages: No direct rail link
...Glasgow International Airport ( or Abbotsinch for those of us with longer memories ) is visible from the M8 motorway about 8 miles out of Glasgow and a mile or so from Paisley. So is very accessible to reach by car. It is my local airport and I have flown from here many a time on both international and domestic flights.
One thing to confirm, if you are using a low cost airline, is which Glasgow Airport you are going to. There is another - Glasgow Prestwick ( airport code PIK ) which is about 25 miles south of Glasgow. Ryanair fly to Prestwick not Glasgow.
There are 5 different parking areas from immediately opposite the terminal to approximately ¾ of a mile away. The bumf says it is served by a shuttle bus but as we all know, the regularity and frequency quoted in official leaflets can leave a lot to be desired. I haven’...
