THE GRANGE, LONG WITTENHAM, BED & BREAKFAST
Review of The Grange, Long Wittenham by
kismet
Advantages: friendly owners, good location
Disadvantages: none
...of the £65 currently charged for the ensuite room.
The house is wireless enabled which is great if you wish to take a laptop on holiday with you. Actually they do have regular visitors who work in the area and stay all week, so they appreciate the facility.
RATES
++++++
Single room - £40 per night
Double/Twin £55 per night
Ensuite Double - £65 per night
The non ensuite rooms all have a washbasin in them and there is a separate bathroom with shower and bath for guests use.
These rates are very good for the area. We also stay in Travelodges or Premier Travel Inns and these are around £46 without breakfast.
The Grange is non smoking. It will take children under 12, but by arrangement only.
The Grange is ideally situated for Oxford and the surrounding area. It is easy to access Oxford, Didcot and Wallingford. We visited Bleinham...

Value for Money
Review of Member Advice on Chain Hotels: Day's Inn by
ashford
Advantages: Convenient locations. Fixed price per room
Disadvantages: Lack character of older hotels
...There is growing competition for Britain's traditional lodging industry with the entry of budget hotel chains into the UK market. One of the recent entrants is the US company,Days Inn,and although a relative "new kid on the block",they are already making waves.Although not the cheapest they do offer quite high quality accommodation for your money.
Most of the Days Inn hotels are located near to the main Motorway network which make them locationally convenient for taking a city break or visiting a theme park. Their current network of hotels include :
***Days Inn Sheffield South
***Days Inn Basingstoke East
***Birmingham Days Inn
***Days Inn Warwick North
***Days Inn Derby South
***Days Inn South Mimms
***Days Inn Leicester Forest East
***Days Inn Bristol West
***Days Inn Swindon East (Membury)
***Days Inn Bradford South
***Abington Days...

Value for Money
Review of Member Advice on Chain Hotels: Whitbread Travel Inns / Metros by
ashford
Advantages: Value for Money. Transparent Pricing.
Disadvantages: Lunch and dinner must be obtained elsewhere
...Britain is a Johnny-come-lately to the brand-name budget hotel concept which basically offers value-for-money,consistency and transparent pricing. Long established in the United States by groups such as
Express by Holiday Inn,Sleep Inn,Days Inn and in France by FormuleI,part of the Accor group,it is only
comparatively recently that the UK has witnessed a mushrooming of such hotels. Ten years ago there were only about 6,000 rooms in low-cost branded properties, today there are more than 40,000 operated by companies such as
Express by Holiday Inn with well over 50 hotels, Sleep Inn, Travelodge with more than 200 hotels, Days Inn, FormuleI
with ten hotels and the largest British limited service chain, Travel Inn.
Owned by Whitbread the brewers,Travel Inn has in excess of 13,000 rooms in more than 250 hotels the length and breadth of Britain...

He's done it again!!
Review of Groosham Grange - Anthony Horowitz by
klapaucius
Advantages: Fantastic reader for young children!!
Disadvantages: Can be exaggerated in places, but it is for children!
...Groosham Grange could be seen by some people as a bit odd, but once you get past that you really start to become emersed in the story.
The story begins with a boy called David who lives with his quite wealthy family .
When they discover that he has been expelled from his posh public school, they go mad (understatement of the year! :) ). Suddenly, out of the blue, Davids father receives a letter from a mysterious public school on a remote island in Norfolk that promises to straighten David out, and offers a host of extra curricular activities. When David reaches Groosham Grange through a range of abnormal methods, he discovers that this place is all a bit weird, and when people arrive they have to wear black rings and are asked to sign their names in blood on the register on their arrival. This book really catches the imagination...

Great modern 5* London hotel
Review of Grange City Hotel, London by
cdmitchell
Advantages: Location, modern facilities, "Wellness Centre" - pool, spa, sauna, steam room
Disadvantages: No view from the room
...My wife and I stayed at the Grange City Hotel over the most recent bank holiday weekend. Having stayed in many London hotels that have tiny rooms and feel fairly overpriced, I was pleasantly surprised with the Grange City Hotel.
The room was fantastic, and huge! The king size bed, desk, radio, tv with local channels, business channels as well as several sports and foreign language channels, and the option of internet and pay movies. Each room has a safe, iron, and tea and coffee making facilites. The minibar was even computerised! (be careful you don't touch anything unless you want to pay for it!)
The bathroom was immense, modern, and had a large bath and a separate shower.
Our room was supposed to come with 2 monogramed bathrobes, although they weren't there when we arrived. The friendly staff of the Grange ensured that we had...

TRAVEL INN - CAN BE EVEN BETTER VALUE
Review of Member Advice on Chain Hotels: Whitbread Travel Inns / Metros by
GREENSILLM
Advantages: Sites are normally near to a pub
Disadvantages: Do Not Widely Publicise Their Discount Card
...I have used several budget hotel chains such as Travel Inn, Travel Lodge, Wether Lodge (JD Wetherspoons, Holiday Inn Express and prefer the Travel Inn chain, most of their hotels are situated near to a pub so you are able to get a drink and food easily.
These chains all offer the same standard rooms at roughly the same price around £40.
Tip: Holiday Inn Express normally offer a buffet breakfast Toast Rolls, ceral Etc.
In addition most chains offer regular discounts Travelodge have a web site where rooms start at £20.00 - I would recommend a visit to the site prior to booking.
The Travel Inn chain have a web site but I have never seen any discounts however, discounts are available using a discount card you can apply for in Whitbred pubs - It is basically for familys (But you can say you have a couple of kids) and you will receive a 20...

Travel the country in comfort
Review of Travel Inn (Liverpool) by
charlie25
Advantages: Inexpensive
Disadvantages: None
...Travel Inns are the best cheap hotel chain in the country. There are approx. 250 of them around Britain including ones in prime spots such as central London, the middle of Leeds and seaside towns like Blackpool and Brighton. A large proportion of the Inns have been built in the last 10 years and as a result are still shiny and new. However even with the older Inns the quality is consistently good. They are always clean and modern. The layout of the Inns and the bedrooms is near enough the same anywhere you go even down to the pattern on the bed covers and make of television. All bedrooms have 2 very comfortable double beds, one is usually a bed settee, and cots can be provided for babies. There is an en-suite bathroom with bath and shower. The showers are absolutely brilliant, very powerful and an endless supply of hot water...

It's stood the test of time
Review of Grange Hill by
anjib
Advantages: spans different age groups, true to life,
Disadvantages: none
...I have been watching Grange Hill on and off for about 22 (approx) years. It is a programme that has truly stood the test of time.
I think it owes a great deal of it's success to the fact it has changed in the same way that life in a school has changed over the years.
It is about a school "Grange Hill" which is a Comprehensive school set in London. It follows pupils from the first year through to the 6th form and each series, has a new intake of pupils.
I remember in the early days, the opening credits had very crude moving cartoon pictures and great music. I don't think the music to the programme has changed much.
In the early days, the subject material was a lot more prim and proper than it is today. There was nothing of a teenage sexual nature, bullying, divorce etc. It was more of the general everyday lifes of the teenagers...
