Humour in the USA school system
Review of Everything that starts with H ... by
Stacee
Advantages: Might get a small haha or a groan
Disadvantages: see above
...You may have already seen this, but a former colleague
from back home just sent this to me. Some are funny, some are cute.....I did not think the joke section was appropriate.
Subject: 6th ( ages 10 - 12 years) Grade History Test
The following were answers provided by 6th graders during a history test.
Watch the spelling! Some of the best humor is in the misspelling.
1. Ancient Egypt was inhabited by mummies and they all wrote in
hydraulics. They lived in the Sarah Dessert. The climate of the Sarah is
such that all the inhabitants have to live elsewhere.
2. Moses led the Hebrew slaves to the Red Sea where they made unleavened
bread, which is bread made without any ingredients. Moses went up on Mount
Cyanide to get the ten commandments. He died before he ever reached
Canada.
3. Solomon had three hundred wives...

Sarah Connolly, Superb Baroque Mezzo-Soprano
Review of Heroes and Heroines by
zerbine28
Advantages: Rich, creamy vocal; enveloping warmth; text, character alive; facile Baroque ornamentation; impeccable diction; fine Symphony.
Disadvantages: Only over an hour of music here; wanted more!
...If you’ll kindly pardon the gushing tone of this review, the blame for which you can lay wholly on the phenomenal British mezzo-soprano, Sarah Connolly (whom I hereby unofficially dub the operatic Anjelica Huston). Her riveting portrayal of the title character in Glyndebourne’s 2005 staging by David McVicar of Georg Frideric Händel’s ‘Giulio Cesare’ first made this writer into a very interested listener [reviewed here: http://dvd.ciao.co.uk/GiulioCesareHandelThreeDiscsReview5644748]. With this disc, she’s become a full-fledged Connolly fan.
This 2004 CD comprises airs (arias) and orchestral sinfonias from four works by Händel, and any Händel/Baroque music or opera/vocal music lover will not regret its acquisition. This disc also heralds Ms Connolly’s superb turn as the aforementioned Giulio Cesare the very next year...

Children's Interpretations of History
Review of Everything that starts with R ... by
mysteryshopper2
Advantages: Will make you laugh
Disadvantages: None that I can think of
...led the Hebrew slaves to the Red Sea where they made unleavened bread, which is bread made without any ingredients. Moses went up on Mount Cyanide to get the ten commandos. He died before he ever reached Canada but the commandos made it.
Solomon had three hundred wives and seven hundred porcupines. He was actual hysterical figure as well as being in the bible. It sounds like he was sort of busy too.
The Greeks were a highly sculptured people, and without them we wouldn't have history. The Greeks also had myths. A myth is a young female moth.
Socrates was a famous old Greek teacher who went around giving people advice. They killed him. He later died from an overdose of wedlock which is apparently poisonous. After his death, his career suffered a dramatic decline.
In the first Olympic games, Greeks ran races, jumped...

One Of Derbyshire's Strangest Monuments!
Review of Solomons Temple, Buxton, Derbyshire by
micksheff
Advantages: Interesting Monument, Unique, Free, Fantastic Views
Disadvantages: A Steep Walk To Get There
...Solomons Temple is a strange looking monument that overlooks the Derbyshire Spa town of Buxton. It has proved to be a popular destination to walk to for both locals and visitors to the area and the views from here are breathtaking.
The walk to Solomons Temple is quite an easy one, even though the climb up through the Woods is quite steep. The footpath is of good quality, well walked and it is therefore quite easy going underfoot.
The walk begins at the edge of the town, although there are several possible approaches. There are many signs pointing towards "Solomons Temple" and eventually all of the different footpaths lead to the same place.
One of the most popular starting points for this walk is from the Car Park of Poole's Cavern. Poole's cavern is another popular tourist attraction in the town and is well sign-posted.
The Car Park...

Singing the Past
Review of Song of Solomon - Toni Morrison by
Eudora
Advantages: powerful, cleverly written, fascinating
Disadvantages: quite long and hard to get into
...Morrison's Song of Solomon originates from a well-established tradition of South American black women's fiction. It was written in the 70's, but its thematic content is just as relevant today as it was back then. This bildungsroman recounts a young man's quest of discovery to find out the truth about his ancestry.
Milkman, the male protagonist of the book, narrates the most part of the book - although there are occasional alternative points of view from other characters. The main theme of the book is the discovery of the past, and Morrison's technique of flashback emphasises this. The reader witnesses Milkman's birth at the beginning of the novel and his "flight" at the end.
It is a very thought-provoking book which deals with disturbing issues such as incest and violent attacks, which are often fuelled by racism. Although Song...

GCSE answers ... for real
Review of Jokes by
LouZ
Advantages: Laughing exercises more muscles than jogging
Disadvantages: Won't help exam revision
...This is a compilation of apparently real student GCSE answers. Well, if you don't know the answer you may as well make the examiner laugh! Enjoy!
1. Ancient Egypt was inhabited by mummies and they all wrote in hydraulics. They lived in the Sarah Dessert and travelled by Camelot. The climate of the Sarah is such that the inhabitants have to live elsewhere.
2. The Bible is full of interesting caricatures. In the first book of the Bible, Guinessis, Adam and Eve were created from an apple tree. One of their children, Cain, asked, "Am I my brother's son?"
3. Moses led the Hebrew slaves to the Red Sea, where they made unleavened bread which is bread made without any ingredients. Moses went up on Mount Cyanide to get the Ten Commandments. He died before he ever reached Canada.
