My Sheffield
Review of Sheffield in general by
marky
Advantages: CLUBS are awesome
Disadvantages: taxis cost money
...Sheffield is my home town. It is a large city with a very dense population. Ity has a grat nightlife and caters very well towards the student population, with over 30 night clubs in sheffield it's obvious why drones of people from surrounding towns come here at the weekend. The leadmill is THE best club for students....cheap drinks & live bands!!! awesome 70's nights to boogie on down to :-)
deffinately my choice of venue. Also gate crasher visits the republic club often too bringing visitors from as far afield as Liverpool.
Overall SHEFFIELD is becoming one of, or THE pace to party!!!
come and see for yourself!!...

up with sheffield
Review of Sheffield in general by
DandD
Advantages: cheap for students, good night life, good universities
Disadvantages: the weather
...I have just finished my second year at sheffield hallam uni and have found sheffield to be a top city for students, especially at night. The general atmosphere is great and i would recommend it to anyone who wants a really classic night out. Living is very cheap with many places, such as the bars and the clubs, offering very low cost drinks and food. Redbull and Vodka is 60p at the unit night club, which gives you an idea of the kind of value for money you get in sheffield. Also for those with a bit more money to spend saturday nights at the republic is the worldwidely renowned Gatecrasher pumping out the latest club tunes. So to all those reading this, get up to sheffield as quickly as you can!...

Not bad for shopping and partying
Review of Meadowhall (Sheffield) by
jo1l
Advantages: great place
Disadvantages:
...Sheffield didnt at first feel like the place to go for the weekend but I was pleasantly surprised! The town centre shops are your run of the mill high street shops so get yourself down to meadowhall on the outskirts of Sheffield - its just off the M1 and there are loads of buses and the super tram from the city centre itself. Meadowhall is packed - with shops and shoppers! But if you want serious shopping its the place to go! Also there are some half way decent food outlets in there as well -the Greek resturant is fairly good and not too pricey! At night Sheffield comes into its own Loads of pubs and clubs the atmosphere is on the whole very good not threatening like some places! We found it was a really great place to go for a good night out. So dont think Sheffield steel mills and grey think sheffield -fun!...

The UK's best Uni
Review of Sheffield University by
CookStool
Advantages: Good halls, good uni, good city
Disadvantages: Makes other uni's look bad.
...says that the night life in Sheffield is good and gives Gatecrasher as an example. I would go one step further and say the Republic (the home of Gatecrasher) is Sheffields best attribute. There are over 20,000 students in Sheffield so there is more than enough bars with regular drinks promotions. There are too many clubs to name here and there is definately something for everyone....

Better than LONDON!!!
Review of Sheffield (England) by
Lowey
Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: None
...Sheffield is one of the best places to be. It is full of attractions for everyone. It has a great nightlife with many clubs including Gatecrasher at Republic. There is a huge shopping centre called Meadowhall, which also has a cinema. There is a centertainment near to it called UGC, which has really big screens and a lot of leg room. In the city centre there are also quite a lot of shops and an area to rest in and admire called the Peace Gardens which has really beautiful fountains. If you want to study Sheffield is also a great place, becuase it has two universities: Sheffield University and Hallam University....

Sheffield what a place to live
Review of Sheffield in general by
projectlaughter
Advantages: clean, excellant shopping, good sport, good pubs, good people, near the country, living is cheap
Disadvantages: too many hills, too much traffic
...Having lived in SHEFFIELD for 8 years, I have found this city to be alive, theres so much to do here, as i work in a night club i see all the local people, really the night life is so real, we have the top nightspots in the country and people come from far and wide. I also work at both the football grounds in the city as a steward, and i see many fans from far and wide and the away supporters often say how wonderful the grounds are and what a delight sheffield people are. Really this city was once based on the steel industry, much of this has died now we look forward to a city of leisure whatever your needs whatever your sport Sheffield is the place for you....

Do you put your fitness first.
Review of Fitness First, Sheffield by
projectlaughter
Advantages: Cheap, lots of different activities, and venues
Disadvantages: sometimes busy.
...throughout the consortium. Having so far only tried out the Ponds Forge sports centre, I can only talk about their facilities but I have been assured that the others are similar.
The company itself Sheffield International Venues, has an interest in to many activities in Sheffield including, City hall, three golf centers, and of course the Roundhouse Nightclub.
The facilities themselves are fantastic. You can go lane swimming (in an Olympic size pool at Pond's Forge), fun swimming (with flume slides, bubble pool and a lazy river!), use the gym, circuit training, aerobics, aqua aerobics, yoga classes and maybe best of all (for me anyway) full use of the health suite, which includes Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.
The Health club also has been quiet when I have visited and although the Jacuzzi was out of order on my last visit, the general...

Great Place
Review of Sheffield University by
cefa
Advantages: city based
Disadvantages:
...I did my MSc (& Phd) at Sheffield university in control engineering (one of the few universities with this speciality). It is a great place very freindly with some fantastic country side just next door. It is good for bands, bars and clubs and has lots of other students since Sheffield Hallam (the old poly) university is also in town. I really enjiyed it and would recommend it to anyone. Very lively and friendly. The student bit of town is at one end and feels very safe. The accomodation is quite cheap and you have all the facilities of a big city....

I love Sheffield and so will you
Review of Sheffield in general by
judithritchie
Advantages: great place, great ents facilities, good shopping facilities, 2 universities
Disadvantages: the weather!
...Centertainment is an entertainment complex with restaurants like Frankie and Bennys, bars like Brannigans and the UGC cinema complex. All these entertainment and shopping facilities offer great job opportunities, to students also.
What else does Sheffield have? A happening night life is one of its better points. It is home to Republic which hosts the legendary Gatecrasher each Saturday, as well as the Leadmill, the Unit, the Roundhouse and even the somewhat cheesy Club Wow. The Union holds some great events each week at Sheffield University, and there are great pubs all around the university such as the Cavendish and the Firkin chain pubs.
Sheffield is close to the beautiful Peak District so it is easy to get away to the more natural parts of the country for a break.
Sheffield is easily accessible from anywhere, by train (with a big train station...

Were not Northern Monkeys.
Review of Sheffield in general by
scottyk
Advantages: lots of things to do
Disadvantages: transport system can sometimes be a nightmare
...Having lived in Sheffield now for about three years, i felt it was about time i lent my goggles to the masses of ciao on my feelings of my adopted city. Having originally come from a small town near Birmingham called Dudley it was a massive culture shock in my first few months. However, over time i have come to live and breathe the place.
Well were do we start. Being a student it is probably sensible to start with the....
----Pubs and Clubs----
The range of pubs and clubs in the town is enormous. Whatever you are looking for it is probably here. The Leadmill is a very cultural place and is home to great club nights along with country wide bands who usually start on the road to stardom here. Bands like The Human League, Pulp, Oasis, The Verve and Mel C(???) have performed live on the famous Leadmill stage. The club was twenty this year...
