...Decided to write reviews of all my favourite CD's.....so here goes Gawd....I've loved Hed Kandi for as long as I can remember, especially the Twisted Disco series, however this Disco Heaven CD released in 2002 is one of my faveourites and is always playing in my car. For those of you not too familiar with Hed Kandi, its the cool, sophisticated, trendy cousin to run-of-the-mill house music, such as Ministry of Sound or Cream. Launched in 1999, Hed Kandi has evolved from humble beginnings as a compilation brand into the global phenomenon it is today. Advantages: Some good dance tracks across genres
Disadvantages: Not as good as some of their other compilations

I had high hopes for Junior Jack's E Samba as I had liked some of his others (notably Stupidisco from Hed Kandi: Summer 2004), but the excessive Samba beat and Spanish vocals did nothing on an album full of something similar, although I may have preferred this on its own or in a different mix. I wasn't surprised that Manbana's No Reason did not impress me as I found the whole disc mainly unimpressive. K&M featuring Joy's Pink is the Colour was an unusual choice (also featuring on Disco Heaven 01.05). I wuite like the track thought Joy's voice sometimes annoys me. The last (thankfully) track on Beach House disc was Hardsoul together with Ron Carroll on a track called Back Together. This is more of a smooth disco track rather than a chill out or sambaesque track so I liked it more than most on this disc, but it was still not up... Read review

...I'm amazed that no-one has written a review on this CD yet....and as you can probably guess.......I love Hed Kandi it really is music you can listen to anytime and anywhere. The Twisted Disco series of releases (as I said in my previous Hed Kandi review) are easily my favourites as I prefer my house music to be a little like me........deep, bangin, dirty and rough around the edges!! ha What you get with this CD is pretty much in the title "Twisted Disco", what they do is take some well known, and some not-so well known dance tracks or vocal remixes, strip them down, take off the shiney edges and drop in a dirty beat. The track of the CD for me is number 10 on CD 1. It is a remix of the Eric Prydz Vs Pink Floyd hit "Proper Education". The track has been mixed by a guy called Sebastian Ingrosso. ...Tokyo Project presents The Collection CD comes from the new venture by Mark Doyle, who was previously boss at Hed Kandi before starting up his own label. This is their first release. Disc One It opens promisingly with a track called The Weekend by Michael Gray which is quite a famous club classic; I was disappointed to know I already had it on Hed Kandi: Disco Heaven from last spring. It mixes well with Jamiroquai's Seven Days in Sunny June, which is the next track, and a commercial hit, which most tracks used on such compilations aren't. This was followed by Sean from Aya, a track that was on Hed Kandi's Spring Sampler 2005 and their Winter Mix 2004. Martin Solveg's Everybody was one of the better tracks by him and I also enjoyed the Mylo Vs Miami Sound Machine's Doctor Pressure, a combo of Dr Beat from MSM and Mylo's Drop... Read review

...backing and a very hopeful lyric. The original mix is still the best by far; a great track to hear towards the end of the night, just as dawn is breaking, and you begin to realize that your brain has wandered off somewhere … where was I? As I’ve said, a record full of hope for the future. It’s easily available on Hed Kandi (excellent label). Buy it or regret it! Alison Limerick – Where Love Lives Another track available on “Back to Love” on Hed Kandi, this is another MONSTER House track. The 12” Classic mix starts of with a lovely piano intro developing into a driving rhythm, before Alison’s voice comes in about 90 seconds in. Originally released in 1990, this tune would not sound dated if it was released today (and that is NOT a comment on a lot of the dross around now masquerading as dance music under various labels... ...for any mistakes. The first track is the 'Radio edit': This is the track that was played alot on radio 1,on the garage sessions that they have later at night. This is probably the track you will generally recognise,however I didnt as I have an extended version that I got from Myspace as a download. 9.5/10! Track 2:Extended mix. This is about 4 and a half minutes long,and in my opinion is better than the radio edit,which is a rarity as in this day and age,a single is usually complimented with a terrible remix to fill the c.d up. A big 10/10 Track 3:WAWA Club Mix.: This track is almost dancy,in a chill out type of way. If anyone is aware of Hed Kandi,then it seems very similar to some of the things that you would find on a Hed Kandi c.d. ...WHAT'S THIS THEN? ------------------------------ This is a series of four 2CD compilations from a label call Hed Kandi. What they've done is licensed a host of classic club tracks from the late-80's through to the mid-90's and put them onto a series of superb compilations. The label itself ran a night called Back To Love at the club Subterranea in London and a lot of these classic tracks were played there. Hed Kandi built up a following and hit upon the idea of releasing this series of albums. They are called: Back To Loves 1 to 3 and Back To Love 03.02. The great thing about these albums are, for me, twofold: -the tracks are unmixed and therefore you get the full, 12" versions -each compilation has themed CDs. Advantages: a fantastic nostalgic musical trip

...AS much as i am a huge fan of all things Kandi'ed, they seem to release an awful lot of compilations every year, which as brilliant as some of the tracks are on the albums, they still sound the same every year. I love the 3 album packs, but bought brand new they do dent the pocket money slightly, and i tend to get bored of the albums very quickly. On saying that i do enjoy the nostalgic trips on the Back To Love series, and i love the fact that the first CD gives us some good old classic house/electronica and the second moves into more groove/soul stuff. Some tracks on these albums get lost in memory and sound, but when heard again definitely ignites the senses and memories...and Back To Love 03.03 is no different. I'd be bold enough to say i think BTL 03.03 could be their best to date, having bought more recent volumes in the series... Read review

...I've got all the Back To Love compilations from Hed Kandi of of "classic tracks that gave birth to a whole generation of clubbers", and was listening to this one (well, both CD's in this double-pack actually) in my car earlier today, so though't I'd let you know what I thought... --- CD1 1. "You're gonna miss me" - Turntable Orchestra (original mix) Classic "italian house" piano, and a great baseline 2. "Love will find a way" - Victor Romeo feat. Latrice Brown Nothing special about this one really, a bit of a filler really... 3. "See the day" - Ann Consuelo (Stonebridge mix) What a vocal ! And more italian piano. 4. "Aftershock" - Slave to the Vibe (12" club mix) Maybe it's this extended 12" mix (that Hed Handi is all about), but I remember this track being much better... 5. ...it the perfect party CD (if you like this kind of music) and great to listen to when you are getting ready for your night out, deciding what you're wearing, putting on your make-up or having a few pre-drinks, this CD makes a great accompanient. The Price is similiar to competitors CDs prices, at between £8 and £14. Ministry of Sound and Hed Kandi CDs are priced similiarly, and in my opinion you are getting much more from this CD than any Mos or Hed Kandi CD. Its a lovely cover design, I like that the logo really stands out and shows off the brand, and its colourful and adds to the funky feeling of the club. Tracklisting ---------------- CD1 1.
