Wolf Creek - best horror film in years
Review of Wolf Creek DVD by  bigmike33

Advantages: A clever, entertaining and different horror film
Disadvantages: May be too scary for some

...Wolf Creek is a scary little film about three backpackers whose trip to a crater turns into a hellish nightmare, as they're taken hostage by a rather crazed individual. The plot may seem the same as a million other horror films but it's actually a rather refreshing horror film which doesn't follow the usual formula, and may put you off visiting Australia, where the film is set. Although the film is slow to get started once the three backpackers are taken hostage the movie really picks up some momentum. There is a lot of gore and blood during the final third of the film, including a rather disgusting sequence involving someone's fingers. I'll say no more than this, as I'm sure you get the gist of it. Shot on a budget of $1,000,000, peanuts compared to today's blockbusters, Wolf Creek is a solid horror film with some good performances... Read review

Wolf Creek National Park - Dare you go there?
Review of Wolf Creek DVD by  kinwhat

Advantages: Keeps you on the edge of your seat, not a typical horror film
Disadvantages: Slow to start, pretty gory in places

...“One of the scariest films in years, Wolf Creek is an unforgettable, shocking and completely visceral experience from first time director Greg McLean” “Three backpackers head into the beautiful and isolated Australian Outback in a dilapidated car. After several days of driving, they finally arrive at their destination – Wolf Creek National Park, a mysterious area where a meteorite landed. After exploring the terrain, they discover that their watches don’t work and their car won’t start. As panic sets in and the trio prepare to spend the night in the middle of nowhere, they notice the headlights of a car emerging from the darkness. So begins the group’s encounter with one of the most terrifying madmen in history of film.” Based on chilling true events, Wolf Creek is guaranteed to have... Read review

Pack-it Up and Start Again
Review of Eagle Creek Pack-It Cubes by  koshkha

Advantages: Tidy way to pack
Disadvantages: none that I know of

...OK, I wasn't sure how you'd all react to the Pack-It Folder I reviewed recently but it looks like I've struck a rich seam of travel angst in Ciaoland. We love our holidays - we don't like packing. So here is the follow up to the Eagle Creek Pack-it Folder - drum roll………. the Eagle Creek Pack-it Cube. A product so simple you'll wonder why you don't already have half a dozen (or if you do, you'll wonder why your friends and family didn't steal them all). The Principle of Pack-It ******************** The basic idea of the Pack-it system is that you can squeeze more into your luggage if you are loading regularly shaped blocks. And because the blocks are soft, they'll squidge a bit to maximise your space utilisation and they'll also compress your gear gently without messing it all up. What's a Pack-It Cube... Read review

Pack it in, mate.
Review of Eagle Creek Pack-It Folder by  koshkha

Advantages: Crease free travel friends
Disadvantages: I keep losing the boards.

...the Americanism). Since others may hate packing as much as I do - or even love it and still want to love it even more, I have decided to share with you my favourite product that helps me to deal with the hatred of packing. That product is the Eagle Creek Pack-it Folder. And if I get round to it, this review will shortly be followed by the Eagle Creek Pack-it Cube. Together, these two gizmos keep me (questionably) sane when travelling. What is the Eagle Creek Pack-It Folder? ******************************** First things first. It's called a folder because you use it to fold things not like a folder that you keep your paperwork in - no hole punch required. I would call it a folding system - a way of keeping your skirts, trousers, skirts and anything likely to crease or wrinkle in tip-top condition whilst they are in your luggage... Read review

The girl who cried Wolf...Creek
Review of Wolf Creek DVD by  lisacallow

Advantages: Original, macabre and innovative horror
Disadvantages: slow to begin with

...-in-a lifetime adventure to Australia, backpacking around the outback whilst on a study "gap year". They meet a fellow travelling soul, a native to the country by the name of Ben, who quickly becomes an endeared member of their travelling crew. They decide to embark on a road trip to the infamous Wolf Creek, a meteorite crash site that has become renowned amongst tourists as an eminent beauty spot. The threesome hire a car and begin their outward journey into the beckoning wilderness, enthused and unperturbed at what lays ahead of them. Upon reaching the infamous crater, there is lots of fun and laughter, and also bonding between two characters, Kristy and Ben, who of course form a tender, albeit whirlwind union. Their amity and solidarity makes them endearing and identifiable. The characters appear to be wholesome and engaging, the unlikeliest... Read review

Better than average horror
Review of Wolf Creek DVD by  RippedoffPete

Advantages: The story is believable. Acting is natural. Great photography
Disadvantages: Perhaps too much time spent on build-up Some horror clichés.but not overdone

...Wolf Creek is an Australian film that seems to split the horror fans down the middle, ie those who expect instant gore and action as with much Hollywood rubbish today. Then there are those who appreciate a bit of character development and build up of suspense. As a result many young Americans don't 'get' this film and hate it and find it boring. I know which camp I come from. Wolf Creek is a film of 2 halves. The first half focuses on 3 backpackers in their early 20s on a holiday trip across the desolate Australian Outback. It is done in documentary style with add-libbed dialogue, and has a natural, relaxed and happy feel to it. The location shots are beautifully photographed - one of the film's highlights. Although nothing much seems to happens for the first 30 minutes this is deceptive. You become acquainted and empathise... Read review

Don't Stop At Wolf Creek
Review of Wolf Creek DVD by  lilmsnaughty1979

Advantages: Quite Tense At The End
Disadvantages: Too Many Plot Holes, Very Slow To Get Going

...Synopsis = Two girls and a guy head out in the car they have just bought into the outback of Australia to find a place where a meteor has struck known as wolf creek. When they arrive they head out to check it out. When they arrive back at the car it fails to start. A nice and helpful bush man arrives seemingly randomly and toes them back to his place where he can fix the car for them. The nice man who helps them turns out to be a particularly sadistic serial killer who preys on the people who visit Wolf Creek, he presumably damages their cars while they are hiking then "rescues" them later. He then gets them to drink something (that I assume is laced with a tranquilizer of some kind). They wake up in all sorts of trouble at the hands of this psychopath. How will they escape, what follows is a cat and mouse game... Read review

Switchback plus Brilliant luggage
Review of Eagle Creek Switchback-Plus L by  denise.parry

Advantages: Versatile, Very accurate marketing by company,
Disadvantages: Have to search the Uk to find stackists. Can buy online but I have not tried this yet.

...Calling all travellers, have you heard about Eagle Creek. The product is even better than the company says. I didnt choose this product it chose me as winner in a competition. It is by far the best, most versatile product i have ever owned. As a dedicated Samsonite user up until now I just have to sing the praises of Eagle Creek. I recently took this item through the jungles of Venezuela a tough test for any luggage. The Switchback stood up brilliantly. Waterproof, dustproof, brilliant styling, strong and yet very lightweight. The product is like a "Tardis" hidden pockets some with zips, all over the place. My husband and I managed to get all items for 3 changes daily 2 people 2 weeks into this item and there was still room for a few more. ( we like to travel light- not). The extending handle is sturdy and even locks... Read review

Remote Possibilities
Review of General: Northern Territory (Australia) by  Mercury

Advantages: The Territories themselves have a wealth of fascinating sights... not least Ayers Rock.
Disadvantages: It's a long road from Darwin to Alice.

...emerged a second later. We stopped for a few minutes, feed them some fruit and headed off to Tennant Creek and our last real stop. Tennant Creek is a far more modern roadhouse than all the others on the highway and also contains a small zoo of sorts, with a kangaroo, dingo, eagle and parrot all on display. We stretched our legs and examined the various animals with various degrees of interest before embarking on the final 232km to Alice Springs. We eventually made it at around seven in the evening and wearily checked ourselves into the YHA having had an interesting adventure. I really can’t stress how enjoyable travelling with Remote Possibilities was, although the fact that we took the same trip back, albeit in a smaller coach, probably goes some way to demonstrate this. Almost everyone we met in Alice Springs or Darwin who had... Read review

Who needs a backpack when you've got murder!?!
Review of Backpack - Emily Barr by  kerryzach

Advantages: Not a typical chick read!
Disadvantages: Puts you off travelling for life

...First of all, I would like to apologise to all the previous readers of this review! Unfortunately, through no ones fault but my own, I missed off a whole chunk of the review! Nevermind, so I have tried to rewrite it for you. Here goes :- I have never been one for 'chick lit' and I certainly do not like romance novels, which is the complete opposite to my friend Helen. Therefore when she recommended Backpack to me, I had severe reservations. I have to admit, I will never ignore her recommendations again! Emily Barr was 29 years of age when she wrote Backpack, her debut novel, which proved to be a British Bestseller. She had made herself known by writing columns for papers such as The Observer and The Guardian. She spent 1999 travelling and writing, before finally settling down in London. When you begin to read Backpack... Read review
