...A lot can happen in a space of a few years but never more so than in Dubai; it's currently a massive construction site but in the nicest sort of way! The last time I visited Dubai in 2002, I stayed at Oasis Beach Hotel in Jumeirah. At that time the Oasis Beach hotel was the last hotel on the beach strip apart from the Hilton Hotel; the surrounding land was just barren desert. However, after my present visit in 2006 I was surprised to see there were about 200 buildings being constructed behind the Hilton Hotel! If you've read this far and are thinking it's a big no, no you'll be surprised at how much the construction doesn't really bother you. As soon as you catch a glimpse of the white sandy beaches against the clear blue skies and hear the sound of the sea as the waves come in…you soon forget the construction, believe me you do... ...I'm quite used to a budget hotel so my friend and I were all excited to be staying in a Hilton - classy we thought we were. It's located almost right next to the train station and close to the centre of town in a quiet area. Just around the corner are quite a few bars, which were nice and handy for us - but just far enough away to pose no problem. The hotel is also close to the M621. You can book a room online, or call them, we booked online and it was pretty simple, just select the date and give them money! You are then emailed booking confirmation. If you do drive the hotel has parking for up to 80 cars, available on first come first served basis at £10 a day. There is extra parking in a multi-storey car park opposite the hotel. ...I have just returned from a short trip to Wales and spent a couple of nights at the Cardiff Hilton during my trip. I know some people want to skim the info, so I'll start with a quick review, and then proceed into more depth for those who are interested! ...The Hilton at Bromsgrove is a modern 3 star hotel with 138 rooms, situated about half a mile north of the M5/M42 junction. It's set in its own grounds in amongst trees and is a reasonably attractive hotel with parking facilities in the grounds, although residents do have to pay £3 a night to park. After passing through the entrance doors you find yourself in a spacious, clean and light lobby with an atrium and plenty of comfortable seating. There are a couple of computers for guests to use and the hotel has a BT Openzone WiFi hotspot which is useful if guests want to use their wireless laptop during their stay. There is a piano but no-one was playing during our one night visit, so I don't know how much use it gets! In the lobby you will also find the reception desk and Caffe Cino- the Hilton's coffee bar. ...Just over a week ago I was visiting London. As usual, I tend to look for hotel deals a little out of the centre of town as it usually works out much cheaper even when you've factored in the public transport costs (I don't drive.) I am a member of the Hilton Honors scheme - it is free to join and well worth it if you use hotels often as they do have regular special offers and you can earn Hilton points and frequent flyer miles at the same time. See website: http://hhonors.hilton.com - so I thought I would take a look to see what deals there might be. I was pleasantly surprised to get an offer on the Croydon Hilton for £43.50 a night (Fri/Sat) including breakfast and dinner the first night. ...Back in June I needed a hotel in Chicago for a single Saturday night before flying back from Chicago O'Hare Airport to London Heathrow late Sunday evening. I didn't fancy dragging heavy luggage and shopping all the way into the Windy City just for one night (which can take about 40-60 minutes from Chicago O'Hare Airport, read on for more info on this...) and then back out again to the airport the next day, so I decided to consider hotels near Chicago O'Hare Airport.
