Who was Adolf Hitler?
Review of Essays by  FantasyMaster2708

Advantages: I actually got a B for this piece of coursework
Disadvantages: Could drag a bit

...army. He started out as a front line soldier and fought in the first Battle of Ypres. He remained here until 1916 when he was injured. He enjoyed life in the army, as he felt he had a purpose in life. He was the messenger - carrier for his regiment. He was regarded as brave and was awarded the Iron Cross, First Class. This was a very rare honour for an ordinary foot soldier. Hitler annoyed his comrades for his love of trench warfare and war in general. He regarded the soldiers who wanted to end the war as traitors. In October 1918, Hitler was caught in a gas attack and was temporary blinded. Hitler was in a German hospital when he heard that Germany had surrendered. He was livid. Hitler refused to believe that the almighty German army had been defeated. Instead, he blamed Jews and communists for the loss of the war. Hitler returned... Read review

Hitler's foreign policy 1933-1939
Review of Everything that starts with H ... by  joewcarpenter

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -

...Hitler's Foreign Policy 1933-1939 There were four very important parts to Hitler's foreign policy between 1933-1939. These were the Remilitarisation of the Rhineland, Anschluss, the invasion of the Sudetenland, and his gaining of control of Czechoslovakia. The Remilitarisation of the Rhineland, March 1936 From 1933-1935, Hitler's approach was cautious as Germany was in a weak position compared with its opponents. By 1935 Hitler felt secure enough to announce Germany's rearmament. He also sensed in parts of Europe a mood of reluctance to risk open war in defence of a possibly unjust and out-dated settlement. In 1936 Hitler raised the stakes higher by entering the Rhineland. Why did the West not intervene? In Britain, the general public was against going to war, and in January 1935 the British government had decided that the Rhineland... Read review

Hitler's last days
Review of Downfall DVD by  bigmike33

Advantages: Very believable and eeire account of Hitler's last days
Disadvantages: Subtitled

.... So the film starts during the final few weeks of the war, a war that has already been lost, but which Hitler feels he can still win. As we enter Hitler's bunker, it is clear things are not going well for the Nazi's, with Russia marching through Europe intent on reaching Berlin. What this film brings, in comparison to dozens of other films on the subject, is a closer insight into the mind of Hitler and how he is seemingly hell bent on world domination. Ganz does a great job as Hitler, with the leader looking extremely drawn and increasingly angry at the way the war is going. Instead of blaming himself Hitler takes his anger and rage out on the people who have declared their loyalty for him, including his closest friends and key generals, including general Hans Krebs (Rolf Kanies) and Wilhelm Burgdorf (Dohnanyi). He seeks comfort in his... Read review

Nazi Germany essay
Review of Essays by  Skrzypczak

Advantages: Historical and structured
Disadvantages: Not about the nicest subject

...chancellor. Hitler’s party, the NSDAP, or the Nationalist Socialist German Workers Party, enabled Hitler to gain support and eventually come into power in 1933. This was due to the fact that the NSDAP had never been in power before and each other party who had been in government had created problem so people believed that they should at least have a chance to make a difference. Hitler said that the people of Germany had given everyone else ten years and if they give the Nazis four years they can make a difference. This made sense to people and they joined the nazi party to give them a chance. The NSDAP also appealed to everybody in Germany because they were nationalists and socialist and they appealed to the general public because they were the German Workers Party. This meant that they were both right and left wing and aimed to help... Read review

Hitler's rise to power
Review of Essays by  Xeon72

Advantages: you might learn something by reading this
Disadvantages: i might have got something wrong

..." they would go back home and hopefully they would fill their parents with propaganda, and hopefully changing the parents voting, in a way Hitler used children as his best form of propaganda, this is because the children would grow up and they would do exactly what Hitler told them, so he was effectively breeding out the old Germany and replacing them with the children that he had brainwashed. Also the Weimar did absolutely nothing to solve the problems on the street, whereas the nazis set up soup kitchens, and shelters for the poor. In general the nazi party could be seen to be doing something, even if it was handing out uniforms to thugs on the streets so that they could go around beating up communists, which was more than the Weimar government could be seen to be doing, in fact the Weimar government did nothing except of cut spending during... Hitler and the Nazis - its the end of the game.
Review of Downfall DVD by  Blackcat01

Advantages: Excellent insight into Hitlers last days, superb acting and performances
Disadvantages: Subtitles.

..., along comes this strange, intense little man who through deception and murder, gains power. Today we find it hard to believe that someone like Hitler could ever gain power, but in those days, when your country is flat on the floor and you cant feed yourself, let alone your wife and children, someone like Hitler would be classified as a saviour and that and a whole host of other reasons, most of them bad, is how Hitler became one of the most infamous people ever to have lived. Having conquered Europe, through his own driving force and the brilliant capabilities of his Generals, he then turned towards Russia. If you study the history you can see that ultimately he had no choice. Russia was at least 50 times the size of Germany and it would only be a matter of time before Stalin's own desires for world dominance would lead him to attack... Read review

A daring resurrection of the Third Reich
Review of Downfall (Der Untergang) by  a.miko

Advantages: I admire the bravery of the Germans who made and acted in this film
Disadvantages: Without an understanding about National Socialism this film can be misunderstood

...the Russians and their bombs. The main part of the film, however, is set in Hitler's bunker somewhere in Berlin. Here Hitler tries to change the course of war, Although it is more than obvious that Germany is going to lose the war. Hitler's generals know how hopeless their and Germany's situation is, but don't dare to inform Hitler about important incidents concerning the war. On the contrary they try their best to leave the inglorious and deadly battlegrounds knowing exactly that staying at Hitler's side would mean their own deaths. Hitler neither in control of the situation nor of him is constantly planning assaults using companies and troops that only exist on a map. FILMREVIEW -------------------------------------------------- No German film caused as much commotion as Oliver Hirschbiegel's Downfall. It is so controversial a film and I think... Read review

It's the end of an era...
Review of Downfall (Der Untergang) by  l-m-n-o-p

Advantages: Daring, powerful stuff, well acted
Disadvantages: It's very long and complex, and unrelentingly moody

...the Russians even though they will all die. He is also sure that his generals, and even his closest friends Himmler, Göring, and Speer, are betraying him and ignoring his orders. This film examines the crumbling relationships between the members of a party which was once so strong, and how those involved faced their end. Bruno Ganz bravely steps into the role of Adolf Hitler, and proves to be the strongest element of the film. On one hand, he captures the side of the dictator that we all know: loud, opinionated and ruthless. He also looks incredibly similar. But also, his performance shows a side that was never seen; a more human, fragile and caring side. The scenes in which Hitler loses his temper and screams in rage, then immediately calms down and starts to speak softly again, are brilliantly acted. His secretary, Traudl Junge, provides... A look inside the last days of the 3rd Reich
Review of Downfall DVD by  Spyke_Martin

Advantages: Actors are good, ambiance
Disadvantages: Perhaps a little confusing by moments

...*** I'm reviewing the movie, not the DVD because the version I have is the Belgian one ;) *** Der Untergang, known also in French as La Chute and in English as Downfall, is a German movie about Hitler's last days in his Bunker in Berlin, with his generals, his secretary, some servants and Eva Braun. You have also the point of view of a SS doctor, who chose to stay for helping soldiers and civils, instead of running away with fellow SS and a little young Hitlerian, thinking that he's doing the right thing by fighting against the Russians before realizing his mistake and becoming a little boy again. Storyline is good, I mean, I love the World War II but sometimes, American productions are... too centered on American success during this war. Excepting Saving Private Ryan, I don't really watch WWII movies. I love documentaries, so, it... Read review

Compelling viewing of a 'repellent' character
Review of Downfall DVD by  Nolly

Advantages: Powerfully directed and acted, gripping viewing
Disadvantages: The subtitles mught put some people off

...) The Film = The motion picture itself deals with life in Berlin in the last, dark days of the Third Reich. Berlin is a ruined city. There is hunger, poverty and an overwhelming sense of impending defeat. In an underground bunker, a seemingly endless ratrun, the leader of the German Reich, the Führer, Adolf Hitler, is still contemplating the victory he seeks - he will not consider defeat. He employs a new secretary, Traudl Junge, and he advises his Generals in the quest for the ultiimate victory. His closest allies, Himmler, Goebbels, Göring and Speer are either in the bunker or 'working' for the Reich in other parts of the vast German empire. We are all aware of the final German defeat, but the film shows us the final days of Hitler on a singularly personal view. We see Hitler at his 'raving' height, expressing with a chilling lucidity...
