...I have used several budget hotel chains such as Travel Inn, Travel Lodge, Wether Lodge (JD Wetherspoons, Holiday Inn Express and prefer the Travel Inn chain, most of their hotels are situated near to a pub so you are able to get a drink and food easily. These chains all offer the same standard rooms at roughly the same price around £40. Tip: Holiday Inn Express normally offer a buffet breakfast Toast Rolls, ceral Etc. In addition most chains offer regular discounts Travelodge have a web site where rooms start at £20.00 - I would recommend a visit to the site prior to booking. The Travel Inn chain have a web site but I have never seen any discounts however, discounts are available using a discount card you can apply for in Whitbred pubs - It is basically for familys (But you can say you have a couple of kids) and you will receive a 20... ...Holiday Inn express hotels offer great value for money for a comfy stopover when travelling in the UK. Priced at around £40.00 per room per night I can't fault them, I only wish there was more of them but they are beginning to spring up in more and more places. Rooms very comfortably accommodate 2 adults and a child,they are clean,bright,spacious enough and have the usual TV,ensuite tub room,tea and coffe making facilities etc. What sets Holiday Inn above it's rivals is the complimentary continental breakfast of unlimited toast ,rolls and preserves,fruit,yoghurt and tea and coffee.At Travel-lodges you are forced to usually cross a busy car park or service station to be rewarded with a very unexciting and rip off Little Chef for your wake-up cuppa. ...I have stayed in Holiday Inn Express hotels on several occasions. The best place to book is via their website (www.hiexpress.co.uk), as this guarantees the lowest prices. Prices vary, but outside of London rooms cost less than £50 for a couple. Prices in London are slightly higher. Prices vary depending on location and time of year. The hotels are relatively basic looking. You are not paying for elaborate reception areas, swimming pools or a gym. Instead what you get is a good sized room with en suite bathroom. You get tea and coffee making facilities, together with a TV. The TV has a few Sky channels, but these are mostly news channels. There is also a range of pay per view movies available, although half of these seem to be pornographic in nature. The rooms are large enough, very clean and I have found the beds to be very firm... ...The Jury's Inn Manchester is a good functional city centre hotel. Rooms are spotlessly clean, and have coffee facilies. Some sadly only have a shower and no bath. Although associated with Jurys Hotels, this is the junior brand, rather like the Express Holiday Inns. Breakfast is English, served in a school canteen type affair where you can eat enough to keep you going through to dinner. For dinner you have a choice of a very pleasant retaurant overlooking the canal, or a more work a day bar with snacks. The hotel does not have a dedicated car park so you have to use the multi story across the road. Although the hotel do give you a discout, this is still a pain when you want to get luggage etc. I would recomment Jurys Inn to anyone looking for a clean and comfortable base in central Manchester.... ...Four weeks ago I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express located in Southampton for an overnight trip during the weekend. Normally I would stay in a Travel Inn but these were ALL booked from Hastings to Southampton. It was going to be hot and sunny so everyone wanted to be by the seaside. Then, I stumbled across the Holiday Inn Express website and found that they had a hotel located in Southampton. To my relief they had a family room available and the price would not break the bank. We paid £45 for a family room which INCLUDED breakfast. What more could I ask for. This particular hotel was newly built and had extensive free parking available. The hotel was conveniently located just off a motorway which is about a 5-minute drive to the large shopping mall and cinema in Southampton. There are around 60 Express hotels located throughout... ...I used hoteldirect.co.uk for the first time this Christmas when I booked a room in an Express by Holiday Inn hotel in Greenwich, London. After some shopping around, I found hoteldirect.co.uk to have the cheapest price for a hotel in that area of London. The price was £35 pppn compared to the Holiday Inn price of £55. Booking the room via hoteldirect.co.uk was very easy. Although the site does not very professional, navigating to find my choice was easy. With a few clicks the hotel room was booked and paid for. Another plus point was that hoteldirect.co.uk accepted my Maestro debit card whereas Holiday Inn themselves would not. ...I went to the Holiday Inn Express (Glasgow) on a short city break from my home in Aberdeen - it turned out to be a pretty good decision... Holiday Inn Express (Glasgow) - Right in the Heart of the City Visitors to Glasgow will find this the perfect base from which to see the sights. It is next to the Buchanan Galleries shopping centre and virtually next door to the huge 7 floor UGC cinema. (This gets very busy in the evenings, so I would advise placing a booking earlier in the day.) The Burrell Collection is within walking distance. It's especially handy for a short city break when you don't have much time to travel from the hotel into the city centre. There is, however, less easy access to new visitor attractions... ...I was in Nashville for a classical music conference attended by more than 1000 delegates, so I was surprised that this Holiday Inn - one of the overflow hotels was listed as being only 2 star. I needn't have worried. It proved to be a more than adequate base for my stay and had some great plus points which to me puts it more in the 3 star level as far as we Brits grade hotels. I paid about £70 a night booked direct. The room was typical Holiday Inn Express, no frills, clean, basic furnishings, but with huge US tv and very comfy king size bed (better than in British Holiday Inns in my experience) usual things like hairdryer, ironing board, coffee/tea + kettle, free newspaper all OK.
