Reviews of hotel britannia
Fantastic Building - Awful Hotel
Review of Britannia Hotel Manchester, Manchester by
strow
Advantages: Fantastic architure and history to this Grade II listed building
Disadvantages: Now contains a cheap and noisy hotel
...This review is mainly about the hotel building and it's local amenities (there are some other reviews on here detailing visitors experiences).
If you are looking for affordable accommodation in a perfect location in Manchester City Centre, then the Britannia Hotel in Manchester cit centre seems to fit the bill. Unfortunately however, the rooms, atmosphere and general politeness of staff are somewhat lacking. I would recommend staying somwehere else, such as the Portland Thistle hotel next door, or the Piccadilly Gardens hotel (a short walk away). The Britannia does seem to attract most of the stag do's in town and irish football fans when Manchester United are playing at home. As beer on the hotel premises is so cheap, the hotel is very noisy at weekends into the early hours and there can be occasional bouts of trouble (the hotel has...

Nothing to make it stand out from the crowd
Review of Britannia Hotel (Manchester) by
sue.51
Advantages: Good location, excellent prices for city centre
Disadvantages: Very hot
...I have always been curious about Britannia Hotels, and thanks to some unexpected work commitments managed to stay in two in as many days.
The Britannia Hotel is one of five in the Manchester area, and one of two in the City Centre, the chain appears to be expanding all the time. Most of the company's hotels are in the North and Midlands, although they do have venues in Brighton, Gatwick and London.
LOCATION
It is located across the road from the Jarvis Piccadilly Hotel, and walking distance from G-Mex, the Arndale Centre, and Piccadilly Square (where all the trams meet). If you are arriving at night, you cannot miss it as it is brightly lit up with white lights.
There are a number of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. The hotel is also a stones throw away from China Town, host to numerous culinary delightful...

Manchester Britannia Airport Hotel
Review of Britannia Airport Hotel, Manchester by
Lurdle
Advantages: free parking
Disadvantages: see review
.... This is obviously an issue of health and safety.
I can understand that economic issues might mean that priorities have to be set and a carpet might not be one of them, but overall this hotel shows itself not only as worn and shabby (which could be excused) but is downright filthy. The grime and dirt on the stairwell and at the bottom of the stair spindles is worth a photo or two. The light coloured couch and armchairs in the bar are disgusting, with dark stains running down from the headrests. The website may advertise "Britannia for Value" but our money is still worth customer service, courtesy and cleanliness. This hotel has all the attributes of Fawlty Towers. We might have found the humour to appreciate this if we had faced someone with the panache of Basil Fawlty, instead of the truculent person in charge we encountered that night. Needless to say...

Convenient and central
Review of Britannia Hotel (Manchester) by
LBaston
Advantages: Location, value for money, staff
Disadvantages: Some rooms a bit tatty
...I stay at this hotel quite frequently and have usually had a positive thing or two to say about it, although last time I went it was a bit below their usual standard.
The Britannia is in a brilliant location on Portland Street just by Piccadilly Gardens so is very accessible by tram and also not too bad even with moderately heavy luggage to walk from Piccadilly station. It is in a large building with a deep central 'well' with a large chandelier dangling down and has an air of faded grandeur to it.
Rooms here do vary. The budget traveller might well end up in an attic room, and the 'executive rooms' are smaller than you would find in newer hotels. Some rooms have skylights rather than proper windows, although none are as disturbing as those in another Manchester hotel which have no external windows (you feel very disorientated when you...

Choose Thompson to book your holiday
Review of Thomson Holidays by
tabyorky
Advantages: cheap, polite and helpful staff
Disadvantages: none
...This year i went on holiday to benidorm and booked with thompson. This is the first time i've been with thompson and would definitely go with them again.
The brochure prices are competitive, and you get some discounts knocked off your holiday.
Most of their accomodation is located near the resort centres, which is good.
Britannia is Thompson's airline, and they are really good too.
The rep at our hotel was really nice and polite, and told you everything about the resort and hotel that you wanted to know.
They offer free insurance, which we got when we booked from lunn poly.
I'd recommend booking your holiday with thompson as i have never had any problems with them so far, and will be booking next years holiday with them again...

Rule Britannia!
Review of Britannia Airways - BAL by
rich_lufc
Advantages: Good Food
Disadvantages: None so far!
...I have flown with Britannia several times to Mallorca. I have always enjoyed their service and have never had any problems with them. I thought I'd write a quick review of the experiences I have had with the airline. I have never experienced a late departure with this airline!
We (Mum, Dad, Me + Mate) usually book with Britannia online. This saves a lot of hassle and speeds the whole process up. The website (www.britanniadirect.com) is very easy to use and gives you all the options you would expect to receive and more. The best advantage about booking online with them is every passenger receives a £20 discount from their holiday. The only reason we book with Britannia is because they are the only company who can provide rooms for us at a really nice hotel in Palma Nova, the Palma Nova Palace! If you have been there you will know what I...

I need the Loo...NOW
Review of Britannia Birmingham by
wulise
Advantages: Lovely Pictures
Disadvantages: Not suitable for wheelchair users!
...I did try to book a room at the Britannia Hotel, Birmingham, a three star hotel, but try as I might no-one would answer the telephone so I ended up booking another ‘posh’ hotel according to some at the Ciao meet! I am glad I was not actually staying overnight, when I realised that there was no disabled facilities. And on the Saturday of the 'Meet' I needed to used my wheel chair as my back was hurting and walking distance for me is now very difficult.
**The Arrival**
On arriving the revolving doors had to be opened to allow me in and a ramp was put down, thus allowing me access to the reception area. I was squashed along with my husband whilst the ramp was taken out of the cupboard near to the doorway. It was not a pleasant experience (I can tell you!).
The hotel boasted two lifts, but alas only one was working on the day of the Ciao...

BET LYNCH COMES HERE
Review of Britannia Hotel (Manchester) by
LostWitness
Advantages: Location, Internet discounts, dining
Disadvantages: Budget rooms, staff
...Those of you who regularly watch ITV1 may have seen the recent trailers advertising the return of Bet Lynch to Coronation Street. In the trailers, we saw Bet garbed in full leopard skin splendour, descending a rather ornate looking staircase. At first glance, the location looks not unlike a stately home – but I know better. As soon as I saw the trailer, I recognised the staircase immediately. It is actually the main staircase for the Britannia Hotel, which is situated in Central Manchester.
A few months ago, I chaired a recognition event in Manchester for a project team – you may recall my opinion about the tavern Effe’s, where we dined and belly danced. As a number of members of the team had travelled a long way, I also arranged overnight hotel accommodation through my normal travel agent. One of the few hotels...

Manchester - Location location location
Review of Britannia by

Advantages: Very convenient and good prices
Disadvantages: No parking facilities, lack of real air and light in budget rooms
...The Britannia Hotel (actual name) is one of five from the Britannia Chain in the Manchester area, and one of two in the City Centre, the chain appears to be expanding all the time.
Most of the company's hotels are in the North and Midlands, although they do have venues in Brighton, Gatwick and London.
THE BRITANNIA
It is located in Portland Street opposite Jarvis Piccadilly Hotel, and walking distance from G-Mex, the Arndale Centre, Granada TV studios and Piccadilly Square (where all the trams meet) and has 363 bedrooms, including, singles, doubles and family suites.
There are a number of good bars (including Yates and Wetherspoons) and restaurants (chose from Indian, Chinese, Thai and Italian) within a few minutes walk.
The hotel has a couple of restaurants including Bar-Roque which offers meals starting from £5 for a main...
