Best rate in town
Review of Hotel Pickwick, Luzern by  dance

Advantages: Central location
Disadvantages: No air-conditioner in room

...I stayed here with my mom for 1 night in Luzern (July 2006) and we were both happy with the room. Before spending a night in Luzern, we have stayed in Geneva, Montreux and Interlaken (4 different hotels throughout our stay in Switzerland). We paid the least for our room in Luzern and yet it's better than the most expensive one we paid for. Everything in Switzerland is expensive and therefore we wanted to minimise hotel expenses. Surprisingly, a double-room ensuite in Hotel Pickwick is only CHF 125 ! (Hotel Des Alpes is next door and it's almost double this rate). After I booked a double room with Hotel Pickwick, I searched for reviews online and someone mentioned that no towel is provided + services not great. - Fyi, I paid CHF 140 for a pension in Montreux and CHF 135 for a double room ensuite with air conditioning in old town Geneva... BRILLIANT
Review of Les Deux Alpes by  PrinceCharles

Advantages: Great for all abilities
Disadvantages: none

...I have been going skiing for 6 years, earlier this year for the first time I went to les deux alpes. Wow, it is the best skiing resort I have ever been to! There are loads of different pistes for all abilities and even a snow park. You never have to queue for more than a minute at chair lifts etc because there is so many. As it’s a glacier you can ski all year round. The resort has many other facilities like bowling, swimming etc. There are lots of shops, pubs etc and plenty of chalets and hotels. There is a lot of nightlife if you want it. I would recommend les deux alpes to anyone as it is a top resort!... Read review

Cote D'Azur
Review of Cote D'Azur, South of France by  newty1977

Advantages: More affordable thank you think !!
Disadvantages: Not many I can think of

.... The Greeks founded Nice, before the Romans took it and in fact, the word 'Nice' is derived from 'Nikaia', which is the Greek word for 'Victory'. The border of the city was the 'River Var'. There is a very large English influence throughout the city because Queen Victoria often visited Nice during the summer months - you can see the hotel in the 'Cimiez' district - and you will find that many road names, for example, are named accordingly i.e. 'Promenade des Anglais'. The symbol of Nice is The Eagle. However, it's not a bald one like Spence! lol (Sorry mate, couldn't resist !!) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Pros of Destination: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * Airport is located in Nice and a very short (10 minutes) transfer into the centre * Approximately 11,000 3-star and above hotel bedrooms * 5th largest city in France * Diverse culture * An abundance of shops... Cheap and cheerful
Review of Hotel des Arts Montmartre, Paris by  JennyA

Advantages: Central, cheap, quiet
Disadvantages: Small rooms, no on -site restaurant

...This Hotel is close to the centre of Paris, and at less than £20 a night is a marvellous find. Close to many of the grands magasins, as well as hundreds of colourful individual shops, it is a perfect base from which to explore Paris. Although the hotel rooms were not the most spacious ever encountered, all were en-suite and cleaned thoroughly everyday. Covered in posters from various 'spectacles', and with a parrot in residence in the foyer, l'Hotel des Arts was truly welcoming and well worth visiting. Local restaurants - of many different nationalities - were cheap and the friendliness of this part of Paris cannot be underestimated. Although the hustle and bustle of Parisian life was at the end of the street, the enclosed nature of the road meant that noise wasn't a problem. All in all a cheap, friendly place to stay in Paris... Not exactly colonial
Review of Hotel des Colonies, Sint-Joost-ten-Node by  enevel

Advantages: Central, inexpensive.
Disadvantages: Poor service, stark rooms, no English cable tv.

...The Hotel des Colonies is on a side street off of one of Brussells' main drags (not far from the Gare du Nord). It is right next to the huge Sheraton, and a few hundred yards from what seems to be the heart of the local sex trade (lots of places called 'Bar American'!). The brochure said it was recently refurbished. If 1970s is recent, then that is true. The rooms are functional, but the general hotel facilities are not. The bar is closed all weekend. the concierge had difficulty speaking the local language, let alone English. The street outside was rather grotty (not really their fault - road works). Booked a double (they do actually have double rooms) but got a twin. But... not too pricy, certainly compared with near neighbours.... Read review

L'Ile Au Soleil
Review of Alpe d´Huez by  wease

Advantages: Great range of slopes, good night life
Disadvantages: No tree line ski-ing, expensive

.... **Main Town** (otherwise known as Quartier des Jeux) This is a lovely area to stay in as it’s close to everything... with the exception of the slopes! There’s a wide range of hotels, chalets and apartments. Most tour operators offer accommodation in L'Ours Blanc Apartments and the Royal L’Ours hotel and these are situated right in centre de ville. Shops – Shop wise Alpe d’Huez boasts many, many fashion boutiques... although some of the French fashion leaves a little to be desired (one shop in particular earned the nickname of “The Blind Tailors” on my last visit). There are also a load of chain sport shops – Nevada Sports, Intersport, Henri Sport, Skiset – which also boasts outlets elsewhere in the resort. There is also a large supermarket and several souvenir shops. Restaurants –... Read review

A year in Provence.....
Review of Provence (France) by  helencbradshaw

Advantages: Great views, great food, great dink, historical and artistic attractions
Disadvantages: Those Roads, Expensive generally

...and this was definitely the aspect of the trip I enjoyed the least. The main toll road is the fastest way to get across the region, but there are frequent stops to pay tolls, which are typically 1.2EUR – 2.4 EUR. This is a great region, and is a great location for a relaxing break. We enjoyed our location high in the Alpes Maritimes, but it may not be suitable for families and certainly not if you do not plan to hire a car, despite its apparent close proximity to Nice. If you want to be nearer the action, it would be better to choose a hotel in one of the main towns. Bon voyage! May 2003... Read review

Nice to see you Nice
Review of Nice (France) by  treeman

Advantages: Fountains, Sea, Sun, Mountains and all for free
Disadvantages: Pebbles, French men who think they are it

...to go. May is also when the Cannes film festival takes place next door to Nice I think. As I approached Nice by coach it was amazing, ahead of me I could see the clear blue sea, the sky azure, and palm trees started to appear. Huge, white, well architectured buildings dotted the landscape on the left and right. Then you hit the promenade des anglais and you are really in the Mediterranean. Hotels line the beach on the left, this is no Blackpool let me tell you (I love Blackpool however), on the right you have the beach which is pebbly with airplanes flying low overhead as the airport is right at the end of the beach on a landplatform created especially for it, reclaimed from the sea. The hotels are interesting, all different colours, some very regal looking. At the other end of the promenade des anglais is the castle on the hill. Myself... Read review

Lovely Hotel
Review of Hotel Des Berges, Geneva by  Erzulie

Advantages: Handy Location
Disadvantages: Expensive

...1.Location Hotel Des Bergues is my ideal hotel in Genenva, right outside Lake Geneva and River Rhone, easily access by car or on foot. Buses stop on the left side of the hotel (If you are coming from main railway station). 2.My room I stayed alone in one of their executive room and my room is hugh. My bed is two single bed put together and there are nice lamp and pictures in my room. There is also a hugh warerobe and a hallway in my room. The mix of ivory and pastel colour scheme in the room makes it very pleasant and cozy. There is also a writing desk and coffee table. In such a grand and luxury hotel there is of course television, well stocked mini bar and computer ports. I am particularly impress about the bathroom curtains. There are two layers of shower curtains, one for practical reason and the outer layer one is just... Read review

Recently refurbed
Review of Hotel Mercure Paris Square des Batignolles, Paris by  Stevee

Advantages: Recently redecorated/efficient conference service
Disadvantages: Don't take care of transport needs, fight for your own taxi!

...This hotel, just on the edge of the La Defense 5 area has recently been refurbished. Although the area surrounding the hotel itself is not particularly inviting, the inside is bright, clean and welcoming. Rooms are light and airy and more than adequate for a business stay. Having just used the hotel for a conference for 20 the facilities proved to be excellent, and all the arrangements including meals and other ereshments were handled with courtesy and efficiency. The hotel isnt big on conferences and that's maybe why it was able to focus on our small group, the restaurant manager even helping to make up for lost time on the agenda by serving lunch with the minimum of fuss and delay. Easily accessible by RER or Metro we chose to go into Paris by taxi - and that was when the fun started. We were assured by the reception that since... Read review
