Fantastic Building - Awful Hotel
Review of Britannia Hotel Manchester, Manchester by strow

Advantages: Fantastic architure and history to this Grade II listed building
Disadvantages: Now contains a cheap and noisy hotel

...This review is mainly about the hotel building and it's local amenities (there are some other reviews on here detailing visitors experiences). If you are looking for affordable accommodation in a perfect location in Manchester City Centre, then the Britannia Hotel in Manchester cit centre seems to fit the bill. Unfortunately however, the rooms, atmosphere and general politeness of staff are somewhat lacking. I would recommend staying somwehere else, such as the Portland Thistle hotel next door, or the Piccadilly Gardens hotel (a short walk away). The Britannia does seem to attract most of the stag do's in town and irish football fans when Manchester United are playing at home. As beer on the hotel premises is so cheap, the hotel is very noisy at weekends into the early hours and there can be occasional bouts of trouble (the hotel has... Read review

Functional
Review of Jury´s Inn (Manchester) by gollygumdrops

Advantages: Safe, central, clean
Disadvantages: A little expensive

...The Jury's Inn Manchester is a good functional city centre hotel. Rooms are spotlessly clean, and have coffee facilies. Some sadly only have a shower and no bath. Although associated with Jurys Hotels, this is the junior brand, rather like the Express Holiday Inns. Breakfast is English, served in a school canteen type affair where you can eat enough to keep you going through to dinner. For dinner you have a choice of a very pleasant retaurant overlooking the canal, or a more work a day bar with snacks. The hotel does not have a dedicated car park so you have to use the multi story across the road. Although the hotel do give you a discout, this is still a pain when you want to get luggage etc. I would recomment Jurys Inn to anyone looking for a clean and comfortable base in central Manchester.... Great airport hotel
Review of Radisson SAS Hotel - Manchester Airport, Manchester by frankiecesca

Advantages: Nice room and fab location
Disadvantages: can be pricey

...The Radisson hotel at Manchester Airport is probably one of the more well known as it has now been there for quite some time and unlike a lot of others around the Airport, hasn't been bought out over the years and renamed. The hotel is set right in the heart of Manchester Airport so that all three terminals are easily accessible from it and it is easy spot if you are coming off of the motorway to the Airport as it is set right at the bottom of a hill in front of the main roundabout at the airport that has all the flags of the world on it. Room: The rooms at the hotel are all a decent size - they have various room types and the lower floors consist of the standard rooms and the higher floors have the upgraded rooms. The standard rooms are nice but tend to be decorated in a more simple style whilst the upgraded rooms tend to be brighter... Read review

Manchester (England) - Party Capital
Review of Manchester in general by Mark_Littlewood

Advantages: Party Capital of the North
Disadvantages: Wettest City in England

...delights can be found in this City ranging from Large Restaurants of all types to small back street cafe's. If it is history that you are looking for then Manchester Cathedral on St Peters Square is a must, fantastic Architecture, or even Salford Docks, although major refurbishment is turning this part of town into a more modern location with hotels and museums. Now for the bit that everyone has been waiting for, The nightlife, Manchester is world famous for its clubs, Not least the now closed down Hacienda which was the birthplace of many a 1980's group, New Order and Happy Mondays to name but a few, the clubs today however are still something to shout about, from the Student area'a of Failsworth and Oxford Road, Cheap Beer? - These are the places for you, if however a more stylish and expensive night is more your scene, Castlefield... Lesson learnt
Review of The Lowry Hotel, Manchester by beckle_82

Advantages: 5 star luxury
Disadvantages: Super expensive!

...I am never going to be able to afford to live like a celebrity so when work offered me a week at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester I jumped at the chance. I had seen the Lowry in the papers many times - the Man City players had a Christmas party there and David Beckham stays there when he is in Manchester. And not suprising as it is the only 5* hotel in Manchester. Car Park: There is a specific built car park for the hotel with barrier that requires a coin from the reception to get out to ensure no one else parks there. It is quite expensive (£12 per day) Checking In: As I dragged my suitcase along the car park the concierge was quick to send someone out to help me he was warm and helpful and pointed me in the direction of the beautifully modern reception desk. As I entered the glass fronted building the marble floor and funkily lit area... Read review

City Inn Manchester
Review of City Inn, Manchester by blaaboy

Advantages: Location, service, food
Disadvantages: Small rooms

...I have been a regular to this hotel over the past two years and I have never been disappointed. The hotel is conviently located across from the main train station and only a 2 minute walk to the centre of the city - Piccadilly Gardens. The staff have always been helpful through my stays. The decor is contemporary and the rooms are finished to a high standard. Every room comes equiped with an Apple desktop computer with free internet acess - a nice touch. Fixture and fitting are all of a high spec and clean throughout. My only grip perhaps is that all the rooms are quite small. The hotel bar is again contemporary in style, but is comfortable and has a good number of guests in the evenings. Breakfast was of a high standard with excellent service and a great selection of hot and cold foods. All in all, a great place to stay!... Read review

Very good hotel, good location, expensive drinks!
Review of Tulip Inn Manchester, Manchester by boyd2715

Advantages: Location, lovely rooms, very clean, friendly reception.
Disadvantages: Bar prices!

...I stayed at the Tulip Inn (Trafford Centre) early in August as the Arctic Monkeys were playing at Lancashire Cricket Ground. When we arrived the car park was quite full but had plenty of spaces, even though the hotel very obviously very busy. There was no conceirage at the hotel waiting to take your bags or even give you a hand on the way in, as there is at many hotels, but we didnt really expect this. When we arrived at reception the hotel was very busy and so was the bar, which is right at the front of the hotel next to reception. The positioning of the bar seems to cause problems at the hotel when busy. Anyway the receptionist was great and the check in was very fast! When we arrived in the room we were pleasantly surprised, the room is quite big and the bed was huge and very comfy! All the usual extras were there, television... Read review

Turn it on!
Review of New Union Hotel by The.Dude

Advantages: Good location, Cheap
Disadvantages: Unpleasent smell, Low maintenance

...I stayed in New Union Hotel (NU) in September 2004. The hotel was booked in a haste on the fact that it was located in the centre of Manchester. The location is very convinient to both Oxford road and Manchester City Centre. The rooms were spacious, fitted with a TV and all ensuite with double beds. Linen was clean and crisp, Tea/Coffee were supplied. On the negative side, the rooms had a distinct smell as if they hadn't been aired for a long time. The bathroom, although clean, was in need of a good scrubbing. My room was switched as the TY wasn't under operation and there was no bed light, or a switch close to the bed. And lastly, the hotel is situated above a pub/nightclub. Although this didn't effect me, it may be of consideration to someone with a less sound sleep. However, this fact is pointed out before payment is made... Read review

Manchester Airport Marriott Hotel
Review of Airport Marriott Hotel, Manchester by matt_fantastic

Advantages: Just of the M56 - convenient
Disadvantages: Just of the M56 - noisy

...I stayed here for one night last week on a business trip to Manchester. I'd stayed there several times before, but they've recently renovated some of the public areas to make a new "Executive Lounge" with computers and things. Not quite sure what you need to get in there though... The hotel is just off Junction 6 (Hale) of the M56 motorway, just 2 miles from Manchester Airport. and a 10 minute drive up the M56 to Manchester itself. This makes it quite popular for conferences and seminars, and there were a few going on there last week, one was "Effective decision making for non-executive directors of mutuals", that could have been interesting There's a complimentary shuttle to Manchester Airport and they also offer "Park & Fly" packages (around £8 per day, I think) so you can leave your car there while you jet off... For food... Read review

Manchester Outskirts or Manchester Central?
Review of Forte Travelodge Manchester, Manchester by matty168

Advantages: Good location,cheap price,clean
Disadvantages: nothing really

...As a fairly regular customer of Travelodge,i stayed here with my partner in January and the room cost us £26 per night for a family room which was very good value for money. Of course i had to book this 14 days online but for this price,it represented great value for money. The hotel itself is called Manchester Central which is sort of deceiving really because it is actually in Salford which is not part of Manchester since it is a seperate council authority. None the less it is approx 5 mins walk from Market street and the Arndale Shopping centre. Manchester Piccadilly station is about a 15 minute walk which isn't too bad at all-especially sicne Manchester is quite a flat city with few hills. The room itself was pretty good as it was very large and had lots of room. Yes it is a family room but i've been in family rooms which were... Read review
