When in Rome...

Advantages: Fantastic for quality service, price, and location
Disadvantages: You'll want to stay longer and you'll want to go back!

For families, they offer such services as babysitting, and there is lots of information on the family-friendly qualities of the establishment on the website, though as we didn't need them, I don't feel I can comment. However we did see a number of happy families who seemed to have been accomodated very well!
Thank you very much for reading this, and you'll have to look out for a review coming soon on my adventures in Rome, what we did, and the day I went off on the metro and managed NOT to get lost!!!!

SUMMIT? JUST THE OPPOSITE!
Review of Summit Roma Hotel, Rome by
comdaily
Advantages: continental breakfast; outdoors swimming pool
Disadvantages: THE ENTIRE HOTEL BADLY NEEDS RESTORATION, REFURBISHING & SANITATION!
...I stayed at Summit from 14th to 16th May 2008. Location is TRAGIC. It is not in Rome, franklly speaking, it is hardly in Rome. Rather in some village. It takes 3 (THREE) hours to walk from Colosseum (and other places of interest) to Summit. Going by bus will hardly help as the bus runs once per hour. The place itself is easily recognizable by a smell of horseshit. There are marks of water on the walls and ceilings in all parts of the hotel. And it smells some past flood. The only advantage could be the swimming pool - but I saw no one there. The breakfast is served only from 7 am - even if we had to leave to Rome for the forum and conference (which, thank God, was not held at "Summit") at 7:45 already. The food is good but standard (the sausage, omelette, boiled eggs, cheese, ham, juice, coffee, pastries). The reception demands 100 EUR...

Amazing Rome
Review of Rome (Italy) by
gard
Advantages: History, lots of things too see and so, food, amazing museums, Gelato
Disadvantages: Too much to see, crowded around major sight, fear of being pickpocketed
...invited to a wedding in London.
Planning the trip
Our initial plan was to fly from Stavanger to London to take part in a wedding and then use Ryanair to get to Rome and just book a hotel on the web. But after our trip to Japan we checked out Expedia options again. We ended up with a package deal from www.expedia.co.uk. As always it is tricky to know which area of the city to stay in when you don't know the place. We posted in different forums and also read the Eyewitness guidebook that we bought from www.amazon.co.uk. Many of the hotels that we looked at were located in the Termini area…and the feedback from others was that this area was a bit seedy. But we took a chance anyway and booked a room at Bettoja Hotel Nord Nuova Roma. The Expedia package included the flights from London to Rome (and back of course) and 5 nights at the hotel and we...

Perfect for a short visit
Review of Quality Hotel Nova Domus, Rome by
liltoddy91
Advantages: Location and helpfulness of staff.
Disadvantages: Rooms were too hot.
...So many might be put off because it is a chain hotel however positioning of this hotel is perfect. Just a few streets away you will find yourself in the Vatican City. However the management of the hotel was organised the rooms were clean and staff were more than willing to give a reccomendation all resturants recommended to us were excellent). If there is a down side in the height of high summer - which again isn't the best time to visit Rome as it is a ghost town - the rooms even though installed with central heating were hotter than comfortable room temperature. To conclude the hotel has a good setting near the town centre but seculded enough the hospitality makes you feel at home and the rooms are spotlessly clean. The hotel is perfect for a weekend stay. What more do you want?...

The finest hotel I've ever stayed in
Review of Hilton, Rome by
MikeWoods
Advantages: Beautiful surroundings, outstanding food
Disadvantages: Key system needs a bit of work
...When I went to Rome in July 2000 I spent 3 nights in the Rome Hilton. What can I say, I don't think the hotel could have been any nicer. Situated about 1 15 minute taxi ride from the main part of Rome, the hotel has beatiful grounds surrounding it, a fantastic outdoor swimming pool, a beautiful indoor heated pool, numerous gyms and plenty of places to grab a snack or a full 7 course meal. The food was the best I've ever tasted, although pricey, it was outstanding. Everything from a small roast beef sandwich in the lobby bar to scorpion fish spaghetti on the roof top restaurant over looking the Vatican. The only down side I would say to the hotel is the lift system, If you are staying on one of the higher floors, you need a key to be able to get up that high on the lift. If you have left the key with someone in the room then you...

Very Pleasant Hotel for Short Break
Review of Hotel des Artistes, Rome by
glovework
Advantages: Location, Price, Breakfast, TV, Walking Distance to Train Station
Disadvantages: Comfort of Beds, Cold Floors, Security
...I went to Rome for a 3 night city break, and came across this hotel on the Internet and booked it because it was cheap and it was available last minute.
The hotel was 10 minutes walk from the main train station were I was dropped off from Rome-Ciampino airport. The receptionist spoke excellent English. The Rome was very pleasant and was far better than what I was expecting for a 2* hotel. It had a clean and functioning bathroom, double bed, good lighting and satelltie TV. As I was out nearly all day, everyday, the room did not bother that much. I was using it for sleeping and who cares what the room looks like when your knackered and all you need is a bed. The morning breakfast was excellent with fresh daily produce in there contintental breakfast that was included in the price.
The only problem I had with the hotel...

Haven of peace in Rome
Review of ARS Hotel, Rome by
moon79
Advantages: Very peaceful, friendly staff
Disadvantages: 20 minute bus ride from centre
...I stayed in this hotel with my partner as part of a package deal bought on Last Minute.
You have to take a bus to get there, it is about 20 minutes from the Termini station (bus 90) and another 10 to get to Plaza Venezia (bus 60). We didn't find this difficult as we live in London and are used to travelling. I also found central Rome very hectic and noisy and so liked returning to a quieter suburb. Plus you get to see the 'real' Rome, where people live!
The hotel can be hard to find, you have to get off at the Sempione stop, cross the square and go up the hill, taking the first left on the corner with Blockbuster. It is a nice area, with shops, cafes and pizzerias, all much cheaper than central Rome. The buses run all night.
The hotel itself is gorgeous. It is four star, in a converted villa. It has very modern decoration...

Gay Rome
Review of Rome (Italy) by
adrianmcaleese
Advantages: All the beauty and magic of Rome
Disadvantages: None
...Rome must be the most beautiful city in the whole world. Full of magical sights, history, art culture and beautiful guys. Cosidering its image of being the Catholic Capital of the world, Rome has an interesting and diverse gay culture. Newcomers might find this gay culture an inaccessible world given Italian Mens difficulty in accepting the homosexuality, however it is there and certainly worth seeking out.
An essential companion is the Italian Scene Gay Guide published by the gay mens press.
I stayed in the Hotel Campo Dei Fiori and very nice hotel just off a beautiful sqaure and not far from the Poazza Navona. The hotel offered good value for money considering its very central and convenient location around 180,000Lire for a double room.
The hotel is camp in its decor and worth staying in.
In terms of clubs I particularly liked...

Great quality and location, inexpensive price
Review of Jolly Hotel Villa Carpegna, Rome by
LucyOCS
Advantages: Inexpensive for it's quality and location, very polite staff, very quiet
Disadvantages: Expensive restaurant
...I never knew visiting Rome was going to be so expensive, I thought to myself as I searched on the internet for hotel there. Anything in the centre that looked nice (and got positive comments on review sites) was well beyond my budget, and anything nice but cheap was so far out of the centre that the saving would be cancelled out by the cost of taxi rides.
That was until I came across the Vila Carpegna hotel, part of the Jolly hotels chain. It seemed to be within walking distance of the centre of Rome, fairly inexpensive for Rome (£90 per room per night), and had four stars. I duly booked it.
The hotel lived up to all expectations, in fact I've never stayed in such a plush hotel. It was only a 30 minute walk to the Vatican (and a very cheap taxi ride back at night) and situated in a nice safe area. A very good buffet breakfast...

View of St Peter's from your bedroom!
Review of Starhotels Michelangelo, Rome by
spice81
Advantages: Location, staff, room size, breakfast
Disadvantages: none
...I stayed in the Hotel Michelangelo while on a work trip to Rome in December 2007 and i can't fault the hotel. We were holding a conference in their meeting rooms and they were nothing short of amazing in terms of helping us plan the event.
As a place to stay, the hotel was perfect. The bedrooms were really large. I had a twin room to myself and it was massive. i'm not sure how much we paid for the rooms, but as a charity, i know it wouldn't have been over the odds, so i think it was excellent value for money and helped make our conference such a success. The breakfasts were brilliant and plentiful and the buffet lunch we had was great.
The hotel is in the perfect spot for sightseeing in Rome. We arrived late at night, but headed straight out to explore the city - easy to do with such a perfect location right next to St Peter...
