THE LAND OF THE PYRAMIDS
Review of General: Egypt by  Ronny

Advantages: sun plus culture
Disadvantages: I couldn't see disadvantages

...painting. If you are lucky you are allowed to see the grave of the famous Tutenchamun. Alas, I was not so lucky. Impressive wasn't only to see a real mummy but also to admire the hard work to build a grave. If you survive heat in the valley you MUST go to the temple of the queen Hatchepsut and this view is hard too describe... CAIRO: Cairo (which has 1000 minarets) is the biggest city in Egypt and has approximately 15.000.000 citizens. I recommend a visit to the bazaar where you have to haggle very good. After a visit in the national museum you have the opportunity to view the world-famous pyramids of Gizeh. Above all the Cheops pyramid with a height of 164 metres is a highlight. But also the sphinx, the huge monster with a human head and a lion's body that stands near the pyramids, is very impressive. HURGHADA: The see in Hurghada... Read review

Excellent diving - I'm addicted
Review of Red Sea (Dive Sites) by  offy

Advantages: Warm, clear, cheap, amazing sights!
Disadvantages: Tummy troubles (if you are unlucky)

...or hire it for a daily charge. The flight is only about 4 hours to Egypt and you can fly direct to Hurghada and Sharm-El-Sheikh. If you are visiting Jordan, you will have to fly to Aqaba and then take an internal flight to Amman, which is a pain. If you are going south in Egypt, it will be a road trip of up to 6 hours from the airport, depending upon where you are staying. Every hotal I have stayed in has been lovely, but I have only booked holidays at the higher end of the market (I need a bit of comfort after a hard day's diving after all). You have the option of doing daily dives (either boat or shore depending upon where you are staying) or going on a liveaboard. This means living on a boat for anything from 3 days to 1 week. The advantage of this is that you can go to more remote dive sites or hopefully get the first slot... Read review

Egypt - trip up the Nile
Review of General: Egypt by  Bridezilla

Advantages: Hot with plenty to see and do
Disadvantages: Harrassment from street sellers

...fantastic. I told them what I wanted to do and they were so accommodating. I could start my trip around Egypt any day of the week, so I could really hold out for the cheapest flights. I found this flexibility quite surprising since i was boarding a cruise ship on day 2. I assumed they would leave on set days - but apparently not. ATB Holidays booked in my sleeper train from Aswan to Cairo and an internal flight to Hurghada form Cairo. They also created an individual itinery for us and included all sights that we were keen to see, including booking us on a hot air balloon ride over Luxor and the Valley of the Kings. The trip was expensive at approx £2000 per person, but no more so than the holidays sold in tour operator's brochures, and this one was tailor made. Upon arrival we were met at Luxor airport by an ATB representative... Read review

Valley of the kings- not to be missed
Review of The Valley of the Kings, Egypt by  emma_georgeson

Advantages: amazing access and fantastic amount of history and culture
Disadvantages: 50oc in summer is a little too hot for a long day

...I first visited Egypt last summer (2005) with my partner. We chose to stay in the Hurghada resort for two weeks in june. on the coast the temperature was between 30-35oc. We were planning on spending two nights in cairo looking at the pyraminds however we spoke to our tour guide who reccommended a five hour coach journey to Luxor instead. Our first reaction was to dismiss it as five hours each way is a very long day in the summer heat but our guide was very enthusiatic about Luxor and in particular Valley of the kings so we gave it a go. Our morning call was at 4am but suprisingly the journey did not seem that longand in fact I found it really interesting after travelling through the desert we drove along the Nile and through villages where children and their parents were working or playing in the fields or waving estacically... Better than your wildest dreams.
Review of General: Egypt by  b4slapper

Advantages: so much to see, friendly locals, cheap
Disadvantages: very hot

.... Theres a reason why these people wear these types of clothes and long robes - thats because its much cooler covering up than wearing less. Really. -Most people get sick. Its just the food and the water are different. -Make sure to take plenty of de hydration sachets - its surprising how easy it happens and it helps with other problems. -Take cash and a credit/debit card. Travellers cheques are not that widely accepted and even in tourist spots like Hurghada we had trouble changing them. -Make sure you get a cruise/boat or felucca if you' re hardcore down the nile. Its well worth it and is very relaxing. The people shout and wave as you go past -its great, and you get to see the other side of Egypt life. - Go and see the tombs at Abu Simbel if possible. It is a bit of a trek out of the way but worth it to see the four statues... Read review

Very HOT
Review of General: Egypt by  chuckb

Advantages: very hot and historical
Disadvantages: none

...Although I only went to Egypt for a few days I found it fasinating and would definately visit again. Egypt is full of things to see and do including the Cairo museam, the Sphinx and the three pyramids. The Cairo museam: The Cairo museam is well worth visiting and is full of Egypt's history. It contains Tutankamun's mask, the coffin's he was burried in along with everything else found in the young boy's tomb including his mummified body! The museam also has many other things, there are too many to count. It is very interesting and well worth visiting. The Sphinx: The Sphinx is a little way away from the pyramids and is very big. It is definately well worth visiting. Next to the Sphinx are the temples in which the Pharo's were mummified. The Egyptions carried stone hundreds of miles to buld a temple for every person they mummified... Read review

New area of Red Sea to explore
Review of El Quseir (Egypt) by  whetton

Advantages: 2 excellent hotels
Disadvantages: none

.... El Quseir is unspoilt by tourism and there are some fascinating old buildings in the town. The people are really friendly and welcome tourists. It is the REAL Egypt but will change fairly rapidly as tourism expands. Although there is a new airport at Marsa Alam, 25 miles from El Quseir, no planes fly there from UK - just Italy and Germany so far. I really recommend this area for families or anyone else - it is peaceful and serene but the underwater sights are spectacular.... Read review

What a load of rubbish
Review of EgyptAir - MSR by  julios123

Advantages: take you straight to Egypt
Disadvantages: Food, no TV on back of seat, Not comfortable and delay

...I just recently went on Egypt air and it was one of the worst airlines I have ever been on. I flew from London to Cairo to Sharm-El-Sheikh and then back to London. On every flight I went on there was always a delay. My flight back to London was delayed for 40 minutes because one of the security guards had lost the keys for the boarding door. The food was absolutely horrible; they served fish and beef only. I tried the beef and was just disgusting and all I ate throughout the whole flight was the bread roll which they served with the food. The service was just average and wasn't very special. On my way back to London I asked for beef and I couldn't believe they had run out and again I just ate the bread rolls. If you're a vegetarian then you won't enjoy the food. I thought that every plane would have TV seats on the back of each seat... Read review

ENCHANTING EGYPT
Review of General: Egypt by  emilystobbs

Advantages: amazing country!! lots to see and do
Disadvantages: bash to tourism after masacre

...Egypt, the land of camels and pyramids. Think on, there is so much more to this amazing country and this makes Egypt the potential holiday of a lifetime. I visited Egypt nearly 6 years ago and I can still remember it like it was yesterday because it made such an impression on me. My family flew to Egypt then joined a Nile cruise ship before setting off on a voyage along the River. We had a set week long schedule which would take us to 5 stops along the Nile where we would take in the sights of the Country. Being the kind of person that burns as soon as I hit sunlight I found the heat unbearable but valuing my skin enough I was marinaded in factor 32. Our first day in the town of Edfu was like walking into the flames of hell- we thought we would die we were so hot. It's therefor extremely important to carry around massive bottles... Read review
