...ORIGINALLY WRITTEN November 2000 Having been an analogue customer of Sky for 5 years I was interested in switching to Sky Digital when a media announcement was made around September 1998. I phoned for an application pack, received it, filled it in and sent it back to Sky. Then nothing happened. The company said that it was deluged with applicants and had a huge backlog of applications to process. I waited till March 1999 when a newspaper article said that Sky had thrown away bundles of applications in the bin, as it could not cope with the demand. So I phoned Sky which had no record of my previous application and duly sent me another application form. I filled in the form wrongly and the form was passed to and fro a few times between Sky and me. All was complete in May and Sky took £40 from my debit card as payment... Read review

...I decided to diary my progress towards getting Sky Digital installed so that the whole process from ordering to tinkering with the final system is covered. As of yesterday, 30th May 2002, I am now up and running..... and now back to the plot. 01/05/02 - WHY I CHANGED TO SKY I only ever really wanted some extra mainstream TV channels like Sk...* One and E4. My TV is already "Terrestrial Digital" enabled, so I can already get all the new BBC and commercial “free-to-air” (FTA) channels anyway. When they finally sort out "Freeview", the new service to replace the void created by ITV Digital, it may be that I'll feel that's enough. I've been a subscriber to Sky for sometime now and my existing digibox was rather old and slow...an Amstrad DX100, and after seeing numerous adverts for Sky+.. I thought 'why not give it a try'. My best mate had Sky+ installed a few weeks before me, so I had a play with his system, before fully committing myself to an upgrade, and was truly amazed at what it was capable of. The first thing I noticed was the speed in which the digibox operated. It responded immediately at the touch of a button, even the EPG loaded straight away, whereas my old digibox was very slow & sluggish.
