Reema- Contemporary Indian restaurant Darlington
Review of Reema Contemporary Indian Restaurant, Darlington by
clairlouise1982
Advantages: Upmarket Indian Restaurant in Darlington
Disadvantages: Service not great
...was very substantial indeed. Feelign already rather full, we moved on to the main course when I had chicken malayan which was creamy and very very mild, ideal for anyone not used to spicy food, and my fiancé had chicken tikka masala which was delicious. we were far to full after that for dessert!
Sadly the service did not really improve throughout the meal, one waiter in particular was quite surly and another one did not bring us the extra drinks we asked for. However the restaurant was very busy at the time as there was a large party in, so we have decided to visit there gain soon when it may be quiter in the hope the service will be better.
In summary: Delicious indian food, but service needs improving.
Location: Restaurant is on Coniscliffe Road, which is in the 'nicer' part of Darlington
Atmosphere: Very noisy due to the large...

Khushi's Indian Restaurant, Edinburgh
Review of Kushi's Restaurant, Edinburgh by
lizzielocky
Advantages: Freshly prepared food, good ingredients, BYO
Disadvantages: Acoustics, location
...Khushi's in Victoria Street at the top of the Grassmarket in Edinburgh is a long established, above standard Indian restaurant on the Edinburgh scene. The difference this time is its location.
Claiming to be Edinburgh's first Indian restaurant, opening in 1947 (and I have no reason to doubt this), Khushi's has moved about five times since then and now resides in glorious Bollywood Technicolor at 9 Victoria Street. I should 'fess up now, this is the only incarnation of Khushi's I have experienced; once for lunch and latterly for a Saturday night family celebration. This last occasion forms the basis for this review.
Ten past seven on a very wet Saturday night and the place is heaving, jumping, buzzing with hundreds of dinners already well into their meals. Which is something of a shock after negotiating the deserted grandeur...

The worst indian in the town centre
Review of Chutney`s Indian Restaurant, Oxford by
zargax
Advantages: Mediterranean atmosphere, slightly different to other indians
Disadvantages: expensive, poor customer service, distinctly average food
...I went to Chutney's as it has a really good reputation around Oxford, particularly in guide books and similar. I'd tried all the other curry houses in Oxford town centre, so when a group of us were in the mood for curry, we decided to come here to try it out.
We booked ahead as it was a Saturday evening, and they managed to fit us in (to their credit it was short notice and a group of just over ten). We were directed to the upstairs section of the restaurant.
Chutneys is different to most curry houses, this is blatantly obvious from the moment you walk in. In terms of atmosphere, Chutneys has tried to avoid the standard Indian, so there are no faux indian decorations or music, it looks more in the style of a summery Mediterranean restaurant. Definitely interesting in terms of novelty value if nothing else.
The menu is fantastic...

An INDIAN in my kitchen!
Review of Sharwoods Indian Cooking Sauce by
karimkha
Advantages: Easy to prepare at home; good value on Special Offer.
Disadvantages: Not quite like the real thing, dry aftertaste.
...a guest into their homes they give him the best of what they have cooked; in festivals, food is a major part of the celebration.
Indian food is well known for having varieties in colour, taste and aroma. It is also very rich in calories because they use much cream, oil and (mostly) ghee (clarified butter) in their cooking which is very high in cholesterol and calories. Indian food contains a mix of spices and herbs, both dry and fresh. In such a hot climate, spices are a "must have" to help preserve the food and are an integral part of Indian cuisine. No meal is complete without a touch of spice, even in desserts.
The Indian food market has grown rapidly and Indian restaurants are all over the country; near where I live there are more than 8 Indian restaurants and takeaway places. Most of these restaurants are quite expensive...

Akbars restaurant, York
Review of Akbars Restaurant, York by
sharkel
Advantages: Fabulous night out, excellent food
Disadvantages: only a teeny tiny one - read and find out!!
..., it took me a while to decide, especially as there quite a few dishes that I had never seen before, which seemed quite traditional. I was glad to see this as a lot of Indian/Pakistani restaurants seem to give the same meals over and over. We decided against starters and wanted to get stuck straight into our main meals.
I chose a Vegetable Dupiaza (£4.95) which the menu described as "A traditional curry prepared with double the amount of fried onions" and my partner chose a Chicken Korma-(£4.65) described as "A curry originally for the British Paj in India . A mild and creamy taste . (Very Mild)". We also asked for boiled rice and a cheese naan but were told that they didn't do this. I may be wrong but this could be a Scottish thing? We decided to settle for a plain naan to go with our dinners. To the left of our table was the kitchen...

the perfect dessert to follow that indian...
Review of Indian Style Pistachio Kulfi Ice Cream by
DC-DanielColeflax
Advantages: tastes great, reasonable price in takeaways
Disadvantages: exensive in restuarants, no doubt unhealthy
..., and a tub costs 99p. I have also had kulfi in a somewhat posher indian restaurant where it cost £2.25 for a considerably larger amount to in the tubs. All in all price is ok, but I would not reccomend paying the higher price in the restaurants.
CONCLUSION
All in all pistachio kulfi is a delicious end to any meal, particularly to cool your throat after an indian, and I would highly reccomend trying it the next time you are in an indian restaurant or takeaway.
Thanks for reading and I hope you have found this review helpful, if you have any questions feel free to leave me a message to ask....

Review of Srecni Slon Indian Restaurant, Maribor, Slovenia by
fizzytom
Advantages: Lovely food, only Indian restaurant in Maribor, nice toilets
Disadvantages: Out of the way location, badly laid out menu
...fades into insignificance!
Of course there is always a but. For my partner and I that 'but' is Indian food. We are both addicted, he more so perhaps. So far we have eaten at Indian restaurants in Poland, Romania, Germany, Armenia, Turkey, Finland, Estonia and Norway amongst others. We have two ways of justifying it; first Indian restaurants tend to be the cheapest option in expensive places. The other reason is that my other half is busy setting up a website reviewing the restaurants we have visited so this is research and therefore completely acceptable.
All of which brings me to Srecni Slon, the first fully Indian restaurant in Slovenia. There is a terrific restaurant called the Ocarina at Bled which was the first Slovenian restaurant to own a tandoor (these things pass as monumental events in Slovenia) but it is not a fully dedicated...

Indian food Dutch style
Review of Taj Mahal Restaurant, Breda, The Netherlands by
larsbaby
Advantages: Decent Indian food
Disadvantages: Unspectacular
...INTRODUCTION
In my ongoing battle with Dutch food in the South Netherlands (losing every day in the work canteen as I'm served up more unidentifiable slop with bread, although to be fair the new caterers have a nodding acquaintance with the idea of food) it's nice to have something familiar. The ubiquitous curry is always a welcome option at home; you can't necessarily rely on it's excellence but there is usually a known quality to what you get. Such hopes (and the welcome addition of rice with a meal as opposed to bread) led me to this sole Indian restaurant in Breda. This is located on the new harbour which all the locals got very excited about last year when it opened.
THE RESTAURANT
The restaurant has wood panelled walls which looked like beech laminate flooring. There are also some Indian wall tapestries...

Merrow Dynasty Indian restaurant
Review of Merrow Dynasty (Guildford) by
tomc
Advantages: Relaxing atmosphere, comfortable
Disadvantages: Sunday buffet slightly disappointing
...A relaxing, comfortable atmosphere scores highly in my list of requirements from a restaurant, and it is in this area that the Merrow Dynasty is most successful.
The Dynasty looks nothing from the outside, just the usual Indian, in a parade of shops opposite the Horse and Groom pub. But those who used to visit the hardware shop that used to occupy the premises will know that once you get inside, it opens up into quite a large area behind the façade, and the current proprietor has converted it into a very comfortable, spacious and nicely appointed restaurant. The décor is mainly pale green rather than the usual Indian restaurant dark and dingy ruby. The chairs are well-upholstered and very comfortable and the tables are big enough to make you feel that you spread out and relax. Some of the table are round, making plenty of space...

Indian Stringed Instruments
Review of The Art of Indian Dilruba - Baluji Shrivastav by
Pit
Advantages: Relaxing
Disadvantages:
...Think of Indian music and most young people in the UK will probably think of that background music you get in Indian restaurants whilst waiting for your curry. I recently became interested in Indian music and bought myself a sitar on a trip to Goa. The sitar is a stringed instrument with the body being made from a hollowed out pumpkin. It has two sets of strings. The upper seven strings are the ones that are plucked. The lower set of strings (about 11 of them) are strings which resonate when you play the upper set of strings.
I went to see a blind Indian musician called Baluji Shrivastav recently. It was an interesting experience and going to see this type of music played live is highly recommended for a mystical, spiritual and relaxing experience. After the concert I purchased a CD called "The Art of the Indian Dilruba...
