Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer
Review of Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 - mouse by  Matt-P

Advantages: Look, optic eye, movement
Disadvantages: Does not work on glass, not cordless, not for left handers

...After getting fed up with my Microsoft Intellimouse (standard), as the dirt hindered the use of the mouse, I decided to upgrade to the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer at a cost of £30 from buy.com with a voucher, its has an "optic eye" which enables it to work without any inner ball. After a years worth of testing all I can say is that it is excellent, it is fluid, never becomes clogged up with dust, and looks really cool with its silver case and red optic eye. It works really well on all surfaces excluding glass. Included in the box is the mouse, a ps2 adaptor(which therefore allows you to use either usb or ps2), basic manual and a installation cd to tweak the settings of the mouse, The only criticism I have towards the Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer, is that it is only for right handers only, the colour begins to fade over time... IntelliMouse Explorer
Review of Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 - mouse by  mrowli

Advantages: Very smooth and Good Response, Extra Buttons
Disadvantages: None that i can think of.

...moving the mouse meaning that the cursor can seen to be jerking. Not with this mouse. I have never noticed anything of the sort with this which was a great advantage when playing online games. Features The mouse comes with the IntelliMouse software which contains the drivers to make the mouse work through your USB port and also allows you to use the Explorer buttons. The Explorer buttons are 2 buttons located on the left side of the mouse which are used for surfing the net. When in Internet Explorer the buttons can be used to operate the Forward and Back buttons making it immensely easier to surf the web. The mouse also has the middle scroll wheel which allows you to scroll up and down web pages or word documents very easy. The middle scroll button can also be pressed in and you can set this to do near enough any function you require... Read review

Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer
Review of Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 - mouse by  crowbar2000

Advantages: No ball!
Disadvantages: Expensive and some bugs!

...Mice are notorious for getting dirty leading to sticking or slipping because the rubber ball (or metal in some mice!) does not turn the two little wheels inside the mouse which tell it how you have moved in the X/Y coordinates. However Microsoft have come up with an innovative idea a mouse with no ball! The Intellimouse Explorer when turned over looks nothing like a normal mouse, it has a red transparent plastic base with a small hole, about where the mouse ball would be. It is actually a tiny camera that takes 1000s of pictures every second and compares each one working out what you have done with the mouse. And it is surprisingly effective! Also with this mouse not relying on a mouse ball you (although I couldn't, shiny desk) can bin your mouse mat, and use it straight desk, on the wall, even on your arm if you should so desire... Surfing, Gaming, Working - The IntelliMouse Way
Review of Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 - mouse by  rayliu

Advantages: No more cleaning your mouse! Loads of programmable buttons, Well built and designed!
Disadvantages: Expensive, Not really suited for left-handed people, Buttons can annoy when accidently pressed!

...Intellimouse Explorer. Look and Feel = The Intellimouse Explorer is nicely designed with a solid build quality. Finished in matt silver with some dark grey areas, the mouse follows the current trend of everything silver (when will it end?) which makes a change from the very dull beige or light grey usually associated with home computer hardware. Yes it does look rather good on your desk so long your mouse mat is tasteful! The mouse has 4 physical buttons, 2 at the front like traditional mice, and 2 at the left hand side where your thumb usually resides. Then there is the ever so useful scroller wheel between the 2 front buttons. Anyone who uses one can understand when I say, how did we ever use mice without it? The scroller wheel must be the best thing to happen to mice. Of course this is mainly due to the fact... Read review

A review of the Microsoft Intellimouse Optical
Review of Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 - mouse by  GR-Design

Advantages: MS Name
Disadvantages: Could be more comfy

...I've reviewed quite a few mice in my time on this site. Some of you may start thinking that I have some sort of mouse fetish, I don't, I simply seem to come across quite a lot of mice in my day to day work! You see, I work as an IT Consultant for Doctors Surgeries, and sometimes that means doing stuff like installing mice! So, I get this new mouse on my desk the other day, it's a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical. Hey, this was the mouse I was going to buy myself instead of my Logitech Optical mouse that I bought. Microsoft make good mice, theres no denying that. They are the leader in the field of mice and probably will be for a long time, with Logitech following closely behind. Their mice are normally very durable, but you do pay for them. Take for instance my mouse at work. It's been used for 3 years now, every day. The casing... Read review

Intellimouse 3.0
Review of Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 - mouse by  d4vy

Advantages: accurate, well priced, well built
Disadvantages: mouse wheel comes lose over time, no dpi function

...I ordered this mouse online for £22, opened the box and inside was a basic instruction booklet, a cd with the intellimouse drivers on (to fiddle with things like what you want the side buttons to do etc etc), a ps2 adapter and the mouse itself. I plugged it in and was surprised at the speed on my screen. As I went from very high dpi mouses (1600dpi) I noticed first off this was much slower. It is not noted on the box or on microsofts website but it has been quoted in other reviews I have read as being "about 400dpi..". Unlike other mouses in this sector of the market it doesn't come with a dpi function, so it is fixed to 400. To some people this may be an issue as high sensitivity users will find the mouse isn't as smooth and would jolt ever so slightly, this isn't a big problem but something you should keep in mind. :-) When using... Microsoft Intellimouse
Review of Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 - mouse by  daddyorchips

Advantages: Smooth as Silk. No Ball!
Disadvantages: None at this price!

...I decided to go for the Microsoft Intellimouse Optical after my old mouse's left click button failed to respond and I was simply becoming bored of cleaning the mouse ball and innards every week for the damn thing to work accurately. So I went for a little search around the internet and discovered the OEM version for £18.21 including VAT and Delivery. FANTASTIC! I was this close |<--->| to buying the Wireless version of it but then I thought a wireless mouse is more of a novelty rather than a practicality - I'd have to change yet Another household appliance's batteries. And what if it gets Lost! eek. So I ordered it (from www.dabs.com) and after a few days it arrived and I plugged it in. The mouse comes with a USB pluggy thing for plug and play, but it also came with standard PS/2 adaptor thing on the end of it - if you don't have... Read review

Not just a mouse...
Review of Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 - mouse by  jon86

Advantages: Very smooth, no cleaning required, very well worth the money
Disadvantages: costs a lot of money

...wrong. It had to be a hardware fault. I found my keyboard was fine so I checked the Microsoft Intellimouse. I plugged in a serial mouse and found my computer would work perfectly without the Microsoft Intellimouse, but a serial mouse instead. I decided to get a new mouse. As I used the mouse a lot, I found the rollers would get dirty quite quickly. This annoyed me a lot so I did some research and looked into buying an optical mouse. I really like the ergonomic designs of Microsoft mice so I chose to buy a Microsoft optical mouse. I just HAD to get a mouse with a scroll wheel. (because I use it so much). I found two real possibilities: Microsoft Intellimouse Optical or Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. There are two main differences between the two mice... 1) The Microsoft Intellimouse Optical is an ambidextrous mouse, whereas... Read review

It hasn't let me down.......yet
Review of Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 - mouse by  Garret

Advantages: IntelliEye, The Wheel
Disadvantages: Tacky, The Two Thumb-Buttons feels flimsy

...As a fairly avid computer gamer by and large, mostly interested in the First-Person Shooter genre, the mouse is an important weapon of choice for me (Especially as I don’t want to have my virtual intestines splattered over the nearest wall with reckless abandon). Having grown somewhat weary of the standard issue two-button mouse, I decided sometime earlier this year to splash out on the extravagant looking Intellimouse Explorer. At £40 it was relatively expensive for a peripheral often looked-over when buying A PC but it has some interesting features which almost justify the heavy price-tag. IntelliEye Technology The Intellieye technology used by the ‘Explorer’ is its principle attraction. There is no mouse ball at the base, which reduces the amount of moving parts... Read review
