...I first set foot on the Isle of Man when I was trying to get from Dublin to Manchester, due to infrequent ferries I chose to go first to Douglas ( The Capital of the Isle of Man) stay the night and continue to manchester the next day. I left three years later, engaged and soon to be a father for the first time. The Isle of Man is a great place to visit, it has many places of historical interest. The House of Keys (The Manx self governing governmnet is on of the oldest in the world). If you are interested in the Celtic way of life or Withcraft the Isle of Man is the place to go. There is a great deal of new shops in Douglas and gone are the days you would need to 'go across' to Manchester for anything. ...They still do things right on the Isle of Man, apparently. Intensive farming? No. Chemically enhanced beer? No. In fact, they have some very stringent beer brewing purity laws on the Isle of Man that are even stricter than the German law, in my opinion. Artificially enhanced cheese production? No. Now, here we come to the nub of this review. Isle of Man mature cheddar cheese. We were lucky enough to find ourselves at the press launch day of the Isle of Man Marketing Partnership at the BBC Good Food Show. By the way, if you read this before the end of Saturday 27 November, DO try to get to the BBC Food Show. It really is a gourmet's day out! Disadvantages: Nighlife is a tad tame

Advantages: you can take the car

...Living quite close to Heysham we occasionally have days out on the Isle of Man, it is a shame that the Isle of Man steam packet Co doen't have any competition as their fares are astronomically high when compared to other UK ferry companies tariffs, and also when time on board and distance travelled is taken into consideration.... The island is a beatiful place to visit, and there is lots to do and see, but the high cost of travelling there by ferry must be putting a lot of people off travelling there, I can fly to the USA cheaper than having an inclusive holiday on the island with the IOM Steam Packet Co If you can afford it though you simply must go to the Island, I've been going there since I was a boy Scout on our annual camp from Liverpool...I love it there and you will too..... the ferries are basic ferries similar to the cross...
