A glimpse of the real state
Review of Eretz Israel Museum Complex (Haaretz Museum), Tel Aviv by
Rogerbyname
Advantages: It's an eye-opener
Disadvantages: It's not very glamorous
...that this is anything other than a truly remarkable achievement. However, if you take the context away from the displays, you could easily leave feeling that this had been a disappointment.
This is not a child friendly, or Disney style wow factor museum. It is a testament to guts, hard work, belief and perseverance in the face of immense adversity and hardship. This alone is worth experiencing, as no understanding of the Modern Israel can be complete without grasping this.
You should note that this museu, is not in central Tel Aviv, but in a nice suburb to the north called Ramat Aviv. Besides driving a car there, the only way to access the museum is via the regular city buses, with which the museum, is amply supplied. Any bus leaving the city on the main north-bound highway (so going to Caesarea, Haifa or Netanya) will go past it. However, once you...

Guns, Sea, Sand and Shabbat
Review of Israel: General by
MissDirect
Advantages: History, beauty, climate
Disadvantages: Fear, political situation, prices
...to be questioned, and don't take it personally. El Al are known for being the most security conscious airline in the world, understandably given the current climate. At least you know you will be safe flying with them.
Israel boasts incredible history and is home
to numerous religions, including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, the secret Druze faith and Ba'haism. It has beautiful Meditteranian beaches, dramatic mountains, and scorched deserts, all within a few hours drive of each other.
There is a variety of accommodation available in
Israel, from budget hostels, to mid range Kibbitzniks, to top of the range international hotel chains. Be warned - I had a fantasy about staying on a Kibbutz, chanting round the fire, children running amongst the flowers and so on. The Kibbutzniks that offer accommodation now are more like holiday villages, but they do...

Outspan in Israel
Review of Eilat (Israel) by
lynlewjustjay
Advantages: relaxing, friendly, clean, lots to do
Disadvantages: long flight, guns in view, airport politics
...We went to Eilat for our honeymoon in March 2006. I was 7 months pregnant at the time so knew I would be limited to do all activities, but this wouldn't stop my husband.
I found booking the holiday hard as their are only a few operators that go to Israel, but it is getting easier to find them. I went through a travel agent to get some brouchers for pictures and ideas, and looked through the internet for more information. We eventually booked through a specialist Israel operator, and they were extreamely helpful.
As we live in the East Midlands we had to travel to Luton to get a very early morning flight, as again, not that many airports fly to Israel yet. But it is getting more popular.
The flight was fine, though the seats were typical airplane style... small, uncomfortable and cramped. The food was nice on the plane, but really...

The Ultimate Guide to Israel by Deiz
Review of Gap Year in Israel & Palest. auton. territories by
Deiz
Advantages: Diverse and fascinating
Disadvantages: Can be dangerous and very hot in the Summer
...Before my incredible sojourn around Vancouver and Western Canada (see previous opinion), I cut my travelling teeth with a gap year in Israel in 1997. I really knew very little about the country before I left, but in many ways this was a good thing, as I went with no preconceptions or prejudices.
I arrived in Tel-Aviv with my backpack, a handful of American Dollars, passport, credit card, toothbrush and very little else. After settling in a cheap hotel I embarked on a mission to discover the local nightlife and returned to my accommodation long after daybreak. However, after three days of partying in Tel-Aviv I decided to venture east to Jerusalem.
The Arab centre of Jerusalem is a crazy mix of ethnic lifestyles, religious sanctity and modern commercialism. The sights and sounds are fantastic, but the attitude of the street bazaar...

A summer holiday all year round - Eilat
Review of Eilat (Israel) by
zak-2
Advantages: Hot weather, water sports, and great hotels.
Disadvantages: All entertainment costs money!
...Eilat, is the glamourous holiday resort in Israel, situated next to the the desert, (similar to Las Vegas in that way)It is also next to the sea. Being Jewish, and with half my family living in Israel, I go to Jerusalem a lot, but i much prefer Eilat. Israel has a reputation, for having many orthodox jews and synagogues all over the place, but Eilat is quite the opposite. It attracts 90 thousand tourists a year, but not all are Jewish. This is for many reasons.
A key factor of Eilats popularity, is that even in winter, the temperature rarely drops below 25 degrees, and is almost always sunny. In the summer, the temp, rarely drops below 35 degrees! Secondly, there are many hotels, all incredibly fancy, reasuringly expensive, and luxurious, ranging from 3 to 5 stars. There has been a lot of competetion to make the best hotels in Eilat...

Marriott Beach Hotel Taba Heights
Review of Taba, Egypt by
packer2
Advantages: quiet relaxing break
Disadvantages: no where to go in the evenings really so need more entertainment in the hotel
...park for boat trips and parasailing which is great so give it a go !and you can eat there and the bus will bring you back as well .The beaches are really uncrowded so you can always get a sunbed ,you do have to swim from the jettys provided so as not to harm the beautiful corals ,the best jetty is at the hyatt regency hotel and i assure you it will take you breath away seeing the fish and sealife ,all you will want to do all day is snorkel and dive it is fab!! There are various excursions you can do even to see the pyramids ,i would have loved to do this but we were only there for a week and i have 2 young children and these trips take a long while on the coach and would not have been fair to them in the heat at there age .but we did do the excursion to swim with the dolphins in Israel which was fab and the children loved it and will never...

THE MOST RETURN VISITED HOTEL IN THE HILTON GROUP
Review of Hilton Nuweiba Coral Resort, Nuweiba by
jonnydeppontv
Advantages: GREAT LOCATION AT A GREAT PRICE FOR AN AI
Disadvantages: OUT OF THE WAY
...the doorstep) to the beach its great for kids. It has its own Diving school (Excellent), and with a pier that has underwater lights at night, the fish/coral are excellent.
Last year we swam with a green turtle (friendly), and previously swam with wild dolphins at the hotel.
The best coral is only a short walk away towards where the old Israeli/UN negotiations were held (building now abandoned). You will see lion fish, barracuda, frog fish, puffers, cornet fish to nemo himself!!!
Would I recommend this hotel- YES.
Weather - hot with breeze in the morning, lot less still pm - But even in July last year it was bearable. Been in January too and during day about 24 degrees C, but cool at night.
Lots of trips - can go over to Jordan/Petra/Israel/Luxor/Cairo
All recommend a visit!
With regards to cost -its Cheap! Cheapest and best...

Eilat - a dream holiday
Review of Eilat (Israel) by
rustifer
Advantages: Excellent diving and cheap CDs
Disadvantages: Eating out in restaurants is pretty expensive
...I had always imagined Israel to be a bit like the North African countries that I'd visited so I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived in Eilat. It is a very modern resort but it also has lots of little market stalls down by the beach promenade which gives a kind of seventies, hippy feel to it. It tends to attract a wide age group as well.
My husband and I stayed at the Moon Valley Hotel near the centre of the town. Our main reason for going to Eilat was to dive in the Red Sea. We had surfed the internet prior to leaving to find ourselves a dive school and we decided that Lucky Divers seemed the friendliest and best value for money.
The Red Sea is spectacular to dive in. As soon as you enter the water you are surrounded by fish. Near the end of our week's holiday we did a 'dolphin dive'. This consisted of diving in an enclosure where...

A Crowne in the Jewel that is Tel Aviv
Review of Crowne Plaza Hotel Tel Aviv by
lazza123
Advantages: Location, Locatin, Location!
Disadvantages: None really - see text
...I had to attend a conference in Tel Aviv, Israel. The conference was in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, so it made sense to stay there!
In Israel the currency is the New Israeli Shekel, which in this review will be called NIS. When I changed my money at Heathrow, the exchange rate was 7.79 NIS to the £. Some of the cost was in US $ so the exchange rate that was on my credit card statement was $1.81 to the £
*** Before I got there ***
I booked my stay on line at the Intercontinental hotels web site, check the web site for the latest deals www.ichotels.com
I didn't know how to get from Tel Aviv airport, to the hotel, so while still in the UK I sent the hotel an email asking if there was a courtesy bus. They promptly responded, telling that there wasn't, but the ways to get to the hotel were either by train, bus (number 222) or taxi...
