Go to Malaysia's Lands End
Review of Johore Bahru (Malaysia) by
ashford
Advantages: Good nightlife; Some attractive buildings, Shopping is quite good
Disadvantages: Traffic jams; Crowded at weekends;
...In the headlong rush north many visitors to Malaysia from Singapore through the southern gateway of Johor Bahru overlook the attractions of this bustling, surprising, town. The state capital, however, has quite a offer to those prepared to dwell and seek out its attractions.
Architectural pride of place has to be given to the Sultan Abu Bakar mosque which undeniably ranks amongst the loveliest in Malaysia. It took eight years to build and the intricate architecture was designed by one Tuan Haji Mohammad Arif; the building was completed in 1900, a few years after the death of Sultan Abu Bakar, the ruler it was named after. The Islamic Centre nearby is a very recent building but it too is a fine modern piece of architecture.
Along Jalan Tun Dr Ismail you cannot miss the imposing Istana Besar - Big Palace - which was built...

Johore Bahru-the Southern Gateway
Review of Malaysia - Johore Bahru by

Advantages: Border town, good architecture, good dining out
Disadvantages: Expensive, crowded during wekkends and public holidays

Not So Super Lumpur
Review of Kuala Lumpur by
indiecater
Advantages: A Modern City On The Way Up.
Disadvantages: Lacking The Intensity Of Many Other South East Asian Cities.
...usually are about where we stayed. We chose the Backpackers Inn on Jalan (road) Pudu primarily because the room was larger than what we had seen in other places and at 30 ringgit (9 euro) the price wasn't exorbitant.
The set up is quite good in the Backpackers Inn. There is a rooftop garden which serves beer and the common room has plenty of books and magazines as well as a movie channel to keep you entertained. The clientele was made up of mostly young Europeans and the atmosphere was pretty cheery. Unfortunately our room turned out to be infested with bed bugs. These little creatures have been the bane of our travels in Malaysia. A lot of the time these little blood suckers are hard to spot but in the Backpackers Inn they were big and bloated. After a night of little sleep we left to find a new home.
The Pudu Hostel is also known...

Wedding in KL
Review of Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) by
gard
Advantages: A taste of Asia
Disadvantages: KL is "small" and it doesn't offer that many great attractions
...money so the first thing that we had to look for was an ATM. We found that eventually and then we had to find a taxi. We were in an extreme hurry because we were going to a wedding on the same day as the arrival. So when a guy came up to us and said that he would drive us to the hotel for 25 Ringgit we said yes even if it sounded a bit expensive. It turned out that the hotel was not very far away so if we had taken a regular taxi we would only have paid 5-10 Ringgit.
I have been to KL before and I used Asia travels (http://www.asiatravel.com/) to book a hotel the last time. We did the same this time and the hotel in KL was “only” 110 RM pr. night. The hotel that we stayed at was the Federal hotel (http://www.federalhotel.com.my) on Jalan Bukit Bintang. This is where you will find large shopping malls like Isetan, Lot 10 and so on...

Dining Out in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia
Review of Everything that starts with D ... by
ashford
Advantages: Inexpensive Great Variety Plenty of Choice
Disadvantages: Some food is very spicey
...at Jalan Campbell or Jalan Masjid India are great places to head for.
You wont be alone though for these eating complexes - where Malay, Indian and Chinese food stalls are gathered together - seemingly attract half of the resident population most nights. Here you'll find everything from simple noodle dishes, stewed duck porridge, chillie crabs, mutton soup and the famous satay - that's best described as barbecued skewers of meat such as chicken or beef which should be dipped into the bowl of thick chillie and peanut flavored sauce that comes with it. Usually cucumber pieces, onions and cubes of rice are also served with the sataythese too should be dipped into the piquant sauce.
At many of the Chinese stalls you will soon come across steamboat which is a charcoal burner, on the top of which is a ring-shaped container into which you...

Good Travel hub
Review of Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) by
pefidler
Advantages: Exciting city, cheap, and vibrant
Disadvantages: Some parts are run down
...I've just spent 5 months in Kuala Lumpur through work and wanted to Comment.
Well, where do I start? I stayed just outside KL, in Petaling Jaya, which was 15 minutes on the LRT into KL.
KL is certainly a colourful place, and it's european routes certainly show through. It is a city of opposites: You have the Shopping Malls in KLCC, which make you think you could be anywhere in the world, then the streets such as Jalan Petaling, which couldn't be any more authentic!
For shopping, KL has to be one of the best citys in SE asia. There are, as mentioned, the big european shopping malls such as Suria in KLCC, which have virtually everything, although don't expect to haggle or get cheap prices. Then again, you have Jalan Petaling, which is good for cheap clothes and CD's, and also malls like BB plaza, which ARE good for haggling...

Kuala Lumpur
Review of Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) by
Shufflebum
Advantages: Cheap, friendly, culture shock
Disadvantages: Can be very humid
...which may only be costing you 83 pence!
If you get the chance go and eat at The Kapitan's Club (35 Jalan Ampang). It is great, set in a colonial house, it serves gorgeous food, quite cheaply. Try Kapitan's chicken, and wash it down with some good wine.
Lastly if you have the time or energy, you should have a walk through the last piece of rainforest in the centre of KL itself. When in the grounds of the KL tower walk across the car park and into the trees. You can follow the path down the hillside, eventually you will arrive at some sort of education centre, or wood centre on Jalan Ampang. If you are as lucky as we were then you can see a family of wild monkeys, or strange birds, and all of them wild. Be aware though that this area is wild, and although there is a proper footpath you also may come across some creatures that you...

The Big KL
Review of Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) by
dwll5
Advantages: affordable and exciting
Disadvantages: hot and humid the whole year
...Kuala Lumpur or KL, is consider to be one of the best city in the world. Talking about food, one can savour a variety of dishes prepared in Chinese, Malay or Indian style. For tourist, I would recommend them to try these foods at the hawker centre i.e. Bangsar, Damasara, Jalan Alor.
Night Life is interseting as well. Especially in Bangsar ( Jalan Telawi 2), I will said the environment is almost similar to Picadilly in London. One will be tempted to go back to KL if they have been there....
