A jolly way to learn how to reed and rite!
Review of The Phonics Handbook: A Handbook for Teaching Reading, Writing and Spelling (Jolly Phonics) - Susan M. Lloyd by
leofluffy69
Advantages: Great activities, easy to understand and read
Disadvantages: Quite expensive
...(Jolly Phonics) off the shelf and started to look through the pages. On first impression I could see that the book was large with 218 pages and the spiral bound spine made it look quite 'cheap'. Despite my first impressions I now own the book and it is a complete 'lifesaver'.
WHAT IS JOLLY PHONICS?
----------------------------------------
Jolly Phonics is a thorough programme/scheme for teaching reading and writing. Jolly Phonics is usually taught in primary school from ages 3-7 (Early Years). It is an enjoyable way for children to learn the letter sounds. The programme helps those children with a favoured kinaesthetic approach to learning through actions. It is also a great visual and auditory aid, so it a great multisensory way of learning.
It works on the five main skills for reading and writing such as (1) Learning the letter sounds...

Jolly Songs
Review of Jolly Songs (Jolly Phonics) - Laurie Fyke by
JQ99
Advantages: Great and effective way of teaching Jolly Phonics
Disadvantages: none really
...Book and accompanying CD.
I bought this book and CD when my son started school as his primary school uses the Jolly Learning system to teach reading and I wanted something to encourage his learning outside of school hours. We listened to it in the car while travelling and it really helped him learn all his sounds very quickly. It also helped me as a parent to learn all the different sounds as I was not familiar with phonics at all and it enabled me to be very supportive towards his reading development. The book is also very helpful as the Jolly Learning system uses movement and image to aid the learning process and makes it fun. The CD is a little on the annoying side after a while but for your child's sake I would say grin and bear as it really pays off and don't worry too much if you are making all these strange movements (while...

Having a Jolly time at the Carlton
Review of Jolly Carlton Hotel, Amsterdam by
Cinnamonsam
Advantages: Central location and value for money
Disadvantages: None
...When choosing a hotel in Amsterdam the traveller is faced with a multitude of choices and you're never sure exactly which hotel is good or bad. I hope this opinion helps to clear the confusion.
We booked the Hotel Jolly Carlton from the internet where we got an excellent deal.
The Hotel Jolly Carlton is owned by an Italian chain of hotels which have properties throughout Europe. It is situated right next to the Singel Flower Market and some of the rooms are lucky enough to overlook the Muntplein which chimes each hour on the hour 24 hours a day. The hotel reception has a luxurious feel and marble abounds. As first impressions count so much we knew we were in for a treat. The receptionist greeted us with typical Amsterdam cheer and smiles. The check-in process was quick and soon we were being portered to our room...

Jolly close to all the best bits of Amsterdam
Review of Jolly Carlton Hotel, Amsterdam by
Taffylad
Advantages: Good location, near enough to the key sights, far enough away not to get ripped off
Disadvantages: None really, slightly 'overrated' at 4* (Probably more a 3)
...Just come back from a 3 night stay in the beautiful City of Amsterdam.
Decided to stay in the Jolly Hotel for no other reason than Price, Location, and amenities, as after some significant Internet 'research' the Jolly Hotel seemed to have most of the criteria myself and my wife were looking for.
Let's face it, Amsterdam is the place you go for a few days to see the sights, sample the local cuisine or plantlife (depending on your taste), and generally chillout. The Hotel is just the base, a place to crawl back to when you've had too much Heineken. The quality of the restaurant food is almost irrelevent as when you're in a City like Amsterdam the last thing you should be doing is having a meal in the Hotel.
So let's look at the criteria I was looking for when I booked :-
Location - The best feature of the Hotel, very close...

USB Card Reader With Free 1GB SD Card
Review of Kingston MobileLite 9-in-1 Reader by
Surj1
Advantages: 9 in 1 card reader, 1GB SD card, Compact design
Disadvantages: None
...The Kingston MobileLite 9-in-1 Card Reader is the only device you need to store, transfer and read data on any USB enabled device. As I use a variety of flash cards for mobile phone, digital camera and camcorder.
This card reader is designed with a USB 2.0 connector which is ideal to connect via you PC or laptop. It has memory expansion slots that support nine different types of SD and MMC flash memory cards. It also comes with a 1 GB SD memory card for free, what more would you want.
This device is called mobile for a reason, as its small and compact it's ideal to take with you anywhere. You won't find a smaller more compact card reader on the market which carries a respectable name as Kingston. I have another card reader which I use for my PC, I bought this because it was cheap and had free 1GB SD memory card with it. I use...

Trust my Card Reader
Review of Trust EasyConnect 42-in-1 USB2 Card Reader CR-1420p by
fightgear
Advantages: reliable, USB2, vista compat, 42 different formats, lively lighty up bits
Disadvantages: bit boring to look at
...I bought this card reader at that famous hit-tech computer store ;) Tesco. So I didn't expect that much especially at the price but it was going to be better than my ultra cheap no name card reader it replaced.
I've been using this card reader now for about 9 months. It cost £9.00 when I bought it so I didn't expect too much. But it surpassed my expectations and has beaten off my attempts to replace it with newer more modern units (usually ones advertising it will read 99 different card types and ones which are much much prettier).
The Trust EasyConnect Card Reader is a USB 2 device which does its job without fuss or fault. It accepts cards via the front panel or the back panel and handles (amongst othersCompact Flash, Mini Drive, SMC, XD (for Fuji and Olympus), MS, MMC, and SD cards. Basically, if you have a memory card for your...

Simple, Basic, Easy-to-Use Card Reader
Review of SanDisk ImageMate USB 2.0 Reader/Writer by
kamnet
Advantages: Simple, basic, USB 2.0 High-Speed port is FAST!
Disadvantages: C'mon, what do you expect out of a card reader, a genie?!?
...who gave me $18 worth of those, and I immediately knew what I wanted. I wanted an external USB 2.0 media reader to make my experience sing.
The media reader I settled on was a SanDisk SD/MMC USB 2.0 Media Card Reader. It was on special for $19.95 S/H. After applying my free bucks, I ended up paying about $9 for it to be shipped to my home over Christmas. I knew I wouldn't get it before Christmas, but I was very excited nontheless to receive it.
It's a basic, no-frills media reader. You hook it up via your USB port. If you run WinME/2K/XP or MacOS 9/X or Linux then this thing will instantly configure for you, it's ready to rock. If you run Win98/98SE (Win95b/c has inadequate and incomplete USB support, Win95a & NT has NO support), then you need to install the included driver, which takes just seconds. After that, you just stick...

READER RABBIT THEERE USEFUL AND FUN
Review of The Learning Company - Reader Rabbits Hey Stage 1 by
emu128
Advantages: Improves your skills
Disadvantages: A bit hard to start off with
...The set of 'Reader Rabbit' CD roms starts with the 'Reader Rabbit Toddler' Cd, we gave this one a miss and we bought 'Reader Rabbit's Preschool' CD rom for my little sister at christmas 1998. The CD rom was for my little sister when she had just turned 4. At first she found it quite difficult but after lots of tries and go's she definintely got the hang of it! The CD has many different ways and games of teaching you letters, numbers, patterns, and memory skills. The games are interesting and suited my ickle sis down to the ground! I cannot remember the price of the CD, but it was very reasonable.
NEXT CHRISTMAS~
Next christmas came rolling along '1999' and we were going to buy the next CD for 'Lucy' who was then 5. The next CD rom was called 'Reader Rabbit's Kindergarten' This sounded a bit too easy for Lucy so we looked ahead...

Microsoft Wireless Desktop With Fingerprint Reader
Review of Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop with Fingerprint Reader - keyboard , mouse by
blackhawk204
Advantages: Fingerprint reader, shortcut keys, design, wireless mouse.
Disadvantages: Keyboard is not wireless.
...Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic!
Does exactly what it says on the tin. Another great product from Microsoft, now with fingerprint recognition.
No more do you have to worry about the kids using the computer while you are out, with the built-in fingerprint they won't get far!
Comes with the software required for the reader to function correctly.
The reader is so handy, no longer do you have to enter your log-in deatils time and time again, simply load up the log in page for a particular site, press the fingerprint reader, fill in the deatils on screen, and there you have it! Next time you wish to log into that particular site, simply load it up, press the reader and you're logged in! It stores your details for each site securely on your computer and you have to log-in to amend/view these details which adds to the security...

A Card Reader Don't Arf Save Yer Batteries
Review of Sandisk Imagemate compact flash USB reader/writer by
BNibbles
Advantages: One bit of kit allows both mp3 player and camera to upload/download
Disadvantages: Oh no, there goes my last USB port!
...READER.
This is a small, rather mouse-like shell, with a slot to take the CF2-shaped modules, including IBM Microdrives.
It needs no external power source and takes up one USB port on your PC. Since it can accept the memory both for my camera and my mp3 player, it can become a permanent fixture, without any further scrambling behind the machine (until the next gadget, that is!).
Because this also means that my MP3 player now only gets used for playing music, the batteries last longer.
All that is needed in the case of music downloads or photo uploads is that I remove the module from the device in question and pop it into the slot on the reader.
The driver software ensure that when a module (CF2 or IBM) is inserted, the PC sees it as a removable drive, allowing the transfer of files through Windows Explorer or My Computer...
