Marseille - culture - climate =beau
Review of Marseille by f18nfz

Advantages: Gorgeous Climate, Beautiful Culture, Picture moment Scenaries
Disadvantages: driving(?)

...Marseilles is located on the south east of france, near the mediterranean sea - hosts a beautiful climate - lovely hot weather perfect for achieving a tan. Marseille is the second largest city in France, the region where Marseille is the capital of its region 'Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur ' and is well used for shipments etc. Around August months the temperature is easily 30 degrees C. It shares a mediteranian climate of hot, humid and dry, the coldest months are January and february (11 degrees C) Marseille is of great importance to france, - look at the french national anthem - la marseille. When i went to marseille i stayed in a great villa/cottage with a private swimming pool, i strongly recommend you get a cottage with a private pool it makes the entire holiday worth-while. The pool wasn't heated as the climate is so hot already... Read review

Marseilles, my town...
Review of Marseille (France) by nano.nsr

Advantages: beautiful, and full of history...
Disadvantages: the sun !!! which is always shining !!!

...Hello everybody ! Today, I'll try to perfect my english, because as I write in my personality, I'm a french student in Telecommunication and Networks... Well, I'll deal with Marseille, which is My Town... I'll try to present a fex monuments of my town. oo0oo NOTRE DAME DE LA GARDE oo0oo In the past, the La Garde hill was devoted to three functions : a look-out post (observation), a fortified castle (defense), and a basilica (cult). The Romanesque-Byzantine style religious building was erected between 1853 and 1864. THE SAINT VICTOR ABBEY (Open every day from 08.00 to 12.00 a.m. and from 02.00 to 06.00 p.m.) Marseille introduced monastic order in Provence. The crypts conserve highly valuable archeological evidence which attest to the presence of a quarry, exploited in the Greek era, followed by a Hellenistic necropolis of which... Read review

A COMPLETE GUIDE TO MARSEILLE
Review of Marseille (France) by Disillusioned

Advantages: Cheaper than England, great food, easy to get to, friendly people
Disadvantages: High crime rate, polluted (aren't all big cities??!?) Its French (Lol)

...just over 3 hours. The French TGV is the fastest train in the world and TGV are probably the best trains in the world. So it is slightly better than Virgin Trains or Connex South Central!! (The French government seem to take expenditure on rail travel seriously) And the other way to get to Marseille is by car; a long, long way but some people do it. I saw several English number plates whilst I was in Marseille. French lorry driver so I can't advise you to use that option. Notre-Dame de la Garde is perhaps the most well-known tourist attraction of Marseille and it is one definitely worth visiting. Notre-Dame de la Garde is a cathedral overlooking Marseille. The view is magnificent and from Notre-Dame de la Garde you can see all of Marseille. You can go inside the cathedral which is historical but frankly nothing particularly different... Read review

Vieux Port
Review of Marseille (France) by torr

Advantages: A unique city, full of history and character
Disadvantages: Racy reputation, some grim districts

...as much space in the sports pages of the local press as did the FIFA Football World Cup. The latter, in the birthplace of Zinadine Zidane and home of Olympique de Marseille, the only French club side ever to win the European Cup (admittedly under dodgy circumstances), was certainly not a matter of indifference. Public screens were erected in the parks and outside the Hotel de Ville in the Vieux Port and, when France beat Brazil in the quarter-finals, the celebrations went on with singing and horn-honking late into the night. ~ Eating and drinking ~ Eating and drinking is never difficult in France, and Marseille is no exception. Just in the centre, apart from La Canebière and the line of eateries along the Quai du Port, there is a busy little pedestrianised precinct just off the Vieux Port to the south which consists of practically... Small and friendly
Review of Marseille by cpwill

Advantages: small, friendly, good facilities
Disadvantages: none

...and are clean and relaxing. I bought a paper in the Tabac Presse shop in the small shopping area at the centre of the airport, the shop had a good selection of UK newspapers and English paperbacks, also some gifts, most notably the shirts and momento's of Marseille's football team Olympic Marseille. I bought my football mad son a shirt. The shopping centre also has a Pharmacy, and a shop selling a range of Provencal gifts. I sat and read my paper ine one of the bistro's and was served a delicious cafetiere of fresh coffee with croissants while the Marseille sunshine filtered through the windows. There was a relaxed atmosphere, people were walking about with luggage trolleys, and backpackers passing through As in most airports there is a waiting area in front of a large window looking out into the runway where people can watch the the planes taking... The exception to my rule.
Review of Aix-en-Provence (France) by anwar

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review

...I am not a city lover preferring the peace of more isolated places. However there are a few exceptions and Aix-en Provence is one city that I always enjoy and would have no hesitation in recommending. Aix (pronounced x) is situated 25 km from Marseille in the centre of Provence. Getting there ************ By plane the nearest international airport is Marseille 25 km away. There are frequent flights from the u.k with several airlines. Fares vary enormously so it’s worth doing your homework before buying! Marseille airport has several car hire outlets and again I would suggest you check via the Internet, as it is usually cheaper to pre book from the U.K. There are fast rail links from Paris to Aix and the TGV station is well situated in the centre of town. The train journey takes only 2 hrs 50 mins and I have used it several times... Read review

Three trips to Provence
Review of Provence (France) by cpwill

Advantages: sun, great food, scenery, wine
Disadvantages: cold in Winter, hard to get around on local transport

...sometimes offer a sample taste of whatever gastronomic delight they are selling, calling out "madame" or "monsieur" to grab your attention. Lavender on sale in shops and of course grown locally in the lavender fields made each trip out a fragrant memory and we brought loads of it home, along with a few crates of local wine and Provencal cloth that I just could not resist. I flew down alone from Gatwick to Marseille in November to visit our daughter and stay for a week. I had a vastly different holiday that time, for one thing we did not have a car and had to rely on the very sparse public transport to travel about...one bus per day out of the village leaving at 7.30 a.m!!... it was also bone numbingly cold but very bright and sunny every day. We had a few good trips out helped along by my daughters by then aquired knowledge of the local buses... Read review

La Belle ville de Marseille
Review of Marseille (France) by francophile01

Advantages: It's a Beautiful city with breathtaking views
Disadvantages: Going out for a drink can proove expensive.

...do in the sink. The shops are just round the corner. There is the huge street market, Monoprix, which has a food basement (alimentation sous sol), and le petit Casino. No not a gambling joint, but a mini market. There is also a boulangerie, all within 5 minutes of the hotel. As I said earlier, I made several trips out to St. Julien to visit relatives. This is a beautiful village in the 12em arondisement, in the banlieue de Marseille. You take the No 7 Bus from the Canabiere, and although it is only 15 minutes outside the city centre, it is very countryfied, and affords un view magnifique over the mountains, and there is a beautiful promenade over the covered canal, just off the main road. Well there's Marseille for you! If you are looking for an alternative to the holiday resort, then I think Marseille is a great place to go and spend... Read review

A Real Example of European Power
Review of SNCF Societé Nationale des Chemins de Fer Francais (France) by monkfeesh

Advantages: Fast, Reliable
Disadvantages: They had a pretty limited food selection

...a high-speed rail network set up by the French national rail company S.N.C.F. At the moment it only operates in France but SNCF hope to have it in Italy, Belgium, Holland and other European countries by 2020. There are 2 types of TGV trains. The original 80s' trains, with their square and blocky interiors that inspired the interiors of Eurostar trains, and the new, double-decker trains. The trains are also extremely fast. They have their own purpose built lines to carry them at fast speeds. One minute you're looking at hilltop towns in Provence, the next you're striking past the vineyards of Burgundy. The connection to Marseille St. Charles Gare only opened in 2001, so stations between Marseille and Euro Disney are all modern and flash looking. - My TGV Experience - Boarding TGV is simple. Just go to the station with your ticket (or buy... Read review

Will you visit me
Review of Aix-en-Provence (France) by French_romain

Advantages: a lot of!
Disadvantages: none!

..., you searched a place to stay... Now you're hungry! No problem. Many restaurants in Aix are wonderful, and you'll can taste all provencal courses, from fish ("bouillabaisse", "paupillettes"...) to salads ("salade niçoise", "chèvre chaud" with goat cheese...)! Cuisine in Provence is excellent, and really varied. A street in center town, "rue de la Verrerie", abound in nice restaurants, provencal, but also asian and moroccan (but you're in France, so first taste OUR cuisine!!). Find a cheap one is possible. My favourite ones are "la Vigne" (provencal, cheese, large choice of wines), "le Comté d'Aix" (traditionnal, very romantic ;)), "le Tire-bouchon" (same)... You have now eaten, you have visited all center town... but I hope you're not tired, cos one of the specialities in Aix is... Parties!! As you now know, Aix abound in students... Read review
