Sports degrees
Review of Leisure & Sport Management by
jo_warren
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...Most people see sports degrees as less academic than other courses. However at Brighton Uni, 18 points are needed to get onto the course and the number of applicants are growing each year. I am studying Leisure and Sport Management and the course is split into modules, for example; the politics of leisure policy, sociology, consumer law, marketing, swimming, games, people in the business environment and the history of sport. The practical modules are choice modules and science options can be taken instead. A 12 week work placement is also a requirement of the course, which gives you a good idea of working in the leisure environment and it helps you work out if you enjoy that particular type of job.
More people should start taking sports degrees, especially ones with business more seriously....

Kinetica @ Putney Leisure Centre
Review of Kinetica - Putney Leisure Centre by
AndyMars
Advantages: pay monthly membership, no joining fee, huge high spec gym, car-park
Disadvantages: dated changing facilities, showers not up to much, very busy peak hours
...Putney Leisure Centre does exactly what it says on the tin..... and more! Yes its a leisure centre, but it's also a modernised gym on 3 levels wich caters for all lifting and cardio needs. Members are generally serious about their health and you very rarely see someone jogging whilst glued to their mobile!
Being a leisure centre and gym means that its a family friendly environment but you are not invaded by young children and teenagers as you're trying to get through your workout. The gym was recently upgraded and a childrens suite installed for certain age-groups to train in safety.
The one big factor for me was that you are not tied into a 12 month contract or lumbered with hefty joining fee's. To me this suggests that Kinetika have to work harder than most gyms to keep you coming back every month... which in turn makes Kinetika...

Blur at their best
Review of Leisure - Blur by
Ramone
Advantages: A lot of Blur (at their most punk) for your money
Disadvantages: A bit 'samey'
...This was one of the first albums I bought, and went to see Blur in concert on the strength of this superb debut offering. For your hard earned cash you can buy into lo - fi (what is lo - fi indie but another name for punk?)talented, raw and original music from a band whoses music has evolved to the extent where no comparisons may be made between Leisure and later albums such as '13' or 'Tender'. Damon Albarn is at his most cynical and is genuinely involved, yet the result is far from exclusive - in fact 'Leisure' is accessable; yet not quite easy listening. Blur exclude a very British attitude, there is a sense of youth and fun about this melodic, tuneful fat sound with flashes of empathy. Blur have become a respectable pillar of modern guitar based music and have risen above their contemporaries to an almost iconic status. Technically...

Hartland Forest Golf and NO Leisure Parc
Review of Hartland Forest Parc, Woolsery, Cornwall by
robbo698
Advantages: In the middle of nowhere
Disadvantages: In the middle of nowhere with no facilities!
...Unfortunately this was not an experience of a lifetime. It may be we chose the wrong year. 2008! The park is described as Hartland Forest Golf and Leisure Parc, however there were no signs of leisure to be seen anywhere. There was a A4 sign pinned to a derelict room stating the bar is closed for 2008 and another sign on the golf club house asking people not to enquire with regards to the leisure facilities at the parc. All in all not a welcoming prospect. The site is extremely remote and you are 2 miles to the nearest public house (along a remote single lane track) and 8 miles from any other leisure facilities. For a supermarket you haver to travel to Bude or Bideford. The accommodation although nice and roomy with all necessary equipment smelt damp throughout our stay, probably not helped by the damp summer.
The site has closed during...

New Vodafone Talkplans
Review of Vodafone by
angela888
Advantages: CHEAP compared to the other networks for off-peak
Disadvantages: Still expensive peak call charges
...Currently on Leisure 500. The talkplan is great for me as a student. Since it covers Vodafone to Vodafone calls plus landline calls off peak, it is even better now that they have decreased the call charges from 5p to 2p a minutes off peak if you go over your limit!
And for those of you who would like to benefit from cheap daytime calls too, then I would recommend Leisure 200. It's the same with Leisure 500, but with 200 free minutes AND ONLY 10p a minute PEAK!
Anyway, the choice of phones are great, and UNLOCKED! With potential to go worldwide and use other countries' sim cards to benefit from their cheaper call charges and perks.
Check out the Nokia3310. It's cool! Though not as small as the 8210, it has more functions!...

I've Got an Idea
Review of leisure-ideas.com by
lawrensons
Advantages: Growing all the time
Disadvantages: java script doesn't work in IE5
...This is a web site that aims to give you every conceivable ideas to do with leisure and tourism in the south. Its not finished by any stretch of the imagination but its still well worth a visit. If your'e planning to go to any city in the south check this site out - its will tell you where you can stay - where you can eat - how you can get about - what things there are to do once you're their
I like the idea that its a web site built by ordinary people - when you go to the site (which doesn't work that well in Internet Explorer) you have the option of telling them your leisure ideas - they put it on the site and hey presto - it becomes a living organism - growing and breathing just like you and me (?)...

Johnny Bravo in a Leisure Suit
Review of Leisure Suit Larry 6 (PC) by
Dinushi
Advantages: Great concept, light and funny
Disadvantages: Lousy graphics
...Think of the weeniest, most pathetic man you know. Now put him in a leisure suit, throw him into a health resort with a whole host of 'babes' and arm him with 100 corny pick-up lines. I have just given you the premises of the Sierra game, Leisure Suit Larry 6.
Larry Laffer is your basic techie dweeb, thrown into a big bad world of (gasp!) women, of whom he is freightened to death. The producer of this game, Al Lowe, creates this world with admittedly lousy graphics, tacky humour and a touch of absurdity, so in the end you're left with a cross between Johnny Bravo and the Simpsons. Chics with dicks, naked bungee jumping and bondage are just some of the things you stumble upon. And the aim of the game? To get Larry laid!
The most bizarre thing about this is that almost anyone...

Dover Leisure Centre
Review of Dover Leisure Centre by
daylehall
Advantages: You don't need to be a member to use the facilities
Disadvantages: Certain parts may be shut due to private events
...Living in Dover means that we don't have too many facilities. Dover Leisure Centre is about the only sporting facility in Dover other than the football and rugby pitches.
Location
Dover Leisure Centre is located on Townwall Street in Dover which is pretty much on the seafront and within walking distance to the Port of Dover. It is also within walking distance of Dover town, Dover Priory Station and Pencester bus station.
Facilities
There are two swimming pools at Dover Leisure Centre. There is a main swimming pool which is 25 metres and also a learner / childrens pool. In the main pool, there are two lanes of the swimming pool which are sectioned off to create one slow, and one fast swimming lane.
The rest of the pool is then literally just open water where people can swim at their own leisure.
The smaller pool is much warmer than...

Anything and everything
Review of Richard Dunns Leisure Centre (Bradford) by
Kuli2
Advantages: The swimming
Disadvantages: Too many visitors
...Richard Dunns Leisure Centre named after the famous boxer from Bradford, Richard Dunn.
The sports centre has a large swimming pool with slides and other water features. There are also a number of sports halls with wooden floors for badminton and indoor football. A number of other rooms are used for playing table tennis and doing weight training and aerobics. The weight training rooms have a large amount of equipment for cardivascular work, fitness, stamina and strenght workouts and traning. Out side a large gravel area is used for football and cycling but Bradford Hockey Club are pushing for this area and a large grass area to be turned into two Astro turf pitches so that Bradford and Richard Dunns Leisure Centre can become the north east England hockey coaching academy but the council are been very stubborn and wont let...
