The Lion Hotel
Review of Best Western Lion Hotel, Worksop by  rd52169

Advantages: Good breakfast, fluffy soft towel, location, helpful staff
Disadvantages: Rooms need revamp, rooms hot, beds uncomfortable, slow Wi-Fi, on many levels

...We stayed in the Best Western Lion Hotel for one night on 19th Jan 2008 as we were attending my Aunt & Uncles 50th wedding anniversary party in the nearby Shireoaks Inn. The reason we chose to stay at the Lion was mainly down to its proximity to the Shireoaks (just round the corner) and because we had stayed at Best Westerns in the past and found them to be very agreeable. Also the same day as we got the invite to the party we received an offer from Best Western in the post for up to 50% off stays in January and February. We decided to upgrade to an executive room (wasn't my decision) and this cost us £73 including breakfast instead of £53 for the standard room with the offer. We booked online via the Best Western website. Hotel Information The Lion Hotel is a 3 star hotel with 46 rooms and on site parking located in the centre... Read review

Playing with the lions
Review of Playmobil Lions by  mumsymary

Advantages: good toy
Disadvantages: none

...You had better be careful if you come to play with me today. The Lions are out! I opened that packet of playmobil lions we got from the playmobil site http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-GB-Site/enGB/Product-Sho w?pid=7895&cgid= they cost about £7. These lions are an addition to the zoo set but could be used for circus play too. There are 4 lions a female lion a male lion and 2 identical lion cubs. These lions are made of a golden coloured plastic. The male has a brown mane. The animals all have brown eyes and noses. The male and females jaws are open wide. The heads of all the animals can be moved up and down, where the necks of all the animals join the body they are jointed. The lions all have an elegant golden body and 4 legs. The legs are moveable so that you and your children can make the lions walk... Read review

Learning Lion
Review of Leap Frog Learning Lion by  newby2

Advantages: brilliant
Disadvantages: nonthing

...that are on the spinning section of the lion's tummy are one showing a rainbow, tree, smiling sun and flowers. The second picture shows a moon and the lion curly up ready for sleep. Of course when you spin it you can never tell which picture or song it is going to land on so sometimes in the middle of the day I'll be singing along with the night time tune and Jack will be staring at a picture of a lion asleep. For either of the pictures there are a few songs that go with that particular picture. The daytime picture of the sun always starts with the song "I am a lion I roar all day, I bounce up and down that's how I play. Reach up high, roar. Reach down low, Roar. I am a lion I roar all day" It's so catchy you will be singing it all day. It then goes on to sing about different colours…"Lets look for colours …what do you see. If you see yellow roar... Lyon- France's alternative city break.
Review of Lyon (France) by  ashtonluke

Advantages: Wonderful city
Disadvantages: Pollution

...Introduction As some of you may or may not know, as part of my degree, I study an element of French language in preparation for the third year I will spend in France next year. My likely destination is Lyon and as such I decided it would be worth taking a trip to Lyon to explore what the city had to offer and get my bearings a little before I actually attended the university next year. Lyon is situated in the Rhone- Alpes region of France, which lies in the east close to the Swiss border. It is surrounded, unsurprisingly, by the Alps and is not very far away in fact from Europe's biggest mountain, Mont Blanc. It is in fact France's second biggest city residing close to St. Etienne and Geneva (in Switzerland). So I and my fiancée (who will also join me in Lyon next year) took a visit to the place. How to get... Read review

I'd be lion if I said I liked it
Review of The Lion King / Lyceum Theatre (London) by  markd_uk

Advantages: Visually Amazing, Cleverly Lit
Disadvantages: Lacks that certain something; too many puppets

..."My jaw hit my knees," one reviewer at The Express said of the stage version of The Lion King, and I have to question that as I reckon that's probably anatomically impossible. However, they went on to say: "Is The Lion King as good as they say it is? - Dammit, yes!" With such ringing, if slightly dumbed-down, endorsements as that, and others like this: "It lights up the West End with a blaze of fabulous imagination," (The Evening Standard) and "A ravishing spectacle, I can hardly wait to see it again," (The Mail On Sunday), my wife and I were utterly thrilled when we were given tickets for Christmas to go and see this show. Adapted in 1999 by Tim Rice and Elton John from the 1994 Disney animated movie, The Lion King, this stage production tells the story of Simba, a young lion cub who is set to inherit his father's kingdom... Shakespeare with Talking Lions
Review of The Lion King (Animated) (Special Edition) by  revere

Advantages: stunning animation, great showtunes, well written characters
Disadvantages: The support cast tends to steal the show. Surely this shouldn't happen?

...Alright, keep it down at the back. Yes, I’m doing a cartoon. I’m not even going to pretend it’s one of those ‘Adult’ type ones like The Simpsons, with snide references to Bill Clinton. This is truly wholesome family fun. The Lion King won 2 Academy Awards in 1995, and even six years on, it’s easy to see why. From the breathtaking opening vistas, we follow herds of animals as they make their way across the grassland to pay homage to the new heir to the Lion’s throne, young Simba. In this society, the Lions rule the Pridelands, but they know that ruling wisely and justly is essential. All creatures are part of the circle of Life (to which there is a song dedicated.) All is not well, however: In a career high, Jeremy Irons supplies the voice of Scar, the wicked uncle intent on taking over... Read review

not LION (get it) it left me FELINE (haha) grrreat
Review of The Lion King / Lyceum Theatre (London) by  MarcoG

Advantages: Adults & Children will appreciate. Highly theatrical. Catchy songs
Disadvantages: Rather expensive

...will be watching people dressed up as animals a la 'pantomine horse'...the audience are invited to take a leap of imagination on a journey through the African plains to Pride Rock and meet the mane (nothing like a good pun) characters. WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT ~ Extremely quick run down of the plot...Simba is a cub and heir to the 'throne' of Pride Rock. His evil Uncle Scar wants to become King, so hatches a plot to kill Mufusa (Simba's fathers) and frame Simba as the murderer - causing him to exile Pride Rock and live the life of a vagabond Lion in the jungle where he meets the infamous duo, Timon and Pumbaa, who teach him about the simplicities of Life and where Simba learns to face up to his past. As he grows into a young lion, and with help from certain friends, decides to return and face his past. The plot is basically the same as the Disney... Read review

TIME FOR A WEE LIE DOWN AND PLAY
Review of ELC Baby Gym by  Groovee

Advantages: Bright stimulating colours, nice toy for a newborn
Disadvantages: bulky and difficult to store

...This playmat was what I spotted for my daughter when she was just days old. It came as a playmat which was brightly coloured in greens and blues and has squares all over it. In 26 of teh squares are the letters of teh alphabet with the picture of something corresponding to that letter. Up 2 of the sides are the numbers 1 - 10. The mat when I first got it was starchy, but due to a couple of washes in the washing machine, due to sicky spells, it is nice and soft now. There are 2 long bendy sort of sticks which cross over the mat diagonally. These are fitted in using toggles sort of similar to a duffle coat. These cross over and make a sort of arch shape. On these bendy bits there are 4 plastic circles and attached to these circles are 4 animals. A Giraffe, an elephant, a lion and a zebra. Right in the middle attached... Read review

Heart of a Lion
Review of Inside the Lion's Den - Ken Shamrock by  nakedchoke

Advantages: two types of book in one, great photo's
Disadvantages: instructional isn't great

...is an older wrestler with great submission skills. This is going to be a great fight and to find out more checkout www.ufc.tv Ken started as a troubled streetwise kid, he spent a lot of time on the wrong side of the law. This could be put down to bad parenting. The only thing that he did well in at school was sport. He had a natural talent for anything physical and was a tremendous athlete. I don't want to spoil anything too much so all I will say is he almost ends his hopes with injuries and has to resort to other ways of making money. The sort of things big strong guys that like to fight are good at, street fighting for money. Inside the Lions Den gives a good insight and amount of depth into Ken's troubled years in and out of school. The next major chapter in Ken's life begins with making it into Japanese wrestling and going to Japan... Read review

Black Lion
Review of Old Black Lion, Hay-on-Wye by  vickyrc

Advantages: Beautiful Hotel
Disadvantages: Price could put some people off

..., Clifford road, occupying the ridge of high ground to the left of Newport Street. Newport, a corruption of Nyporth, meaning 'Water Gate', so called because of the position of the east gate leading down to the river. The walls appear to have carried westward along the high bank of the River Wye then eastwards towards Castle Street and the Western Gate. It is probable that the third gate occupied a site near the Black Lion in Lion Street. Enough of the history lesson!! This colourful 17th Century Inn, parts of which date back to the 1300's, is situated close to what was known as the Lion Gate, one of the original entrances to the old walled town of Hay-on-Wye. The original exposed timber beams exude historical charm and atmosphere and it is reputed that Oliver Cromwell stayed at the Inn whilst the Roundheads beseiged Hay Castle, which... Read review
