...Somebody once said to me that in order to like Lincoln who have to be born there, so since I was maybe I am slightly biased ! Personally I think Lincoln is one of England's almost lost cities standing in its own unspoiled county without a motorway in sight and only a limited train service. The origins of Lincoln are traced to a Celtic tribe who pre 43AD had made their dwellings around a pool, naming their settlement Lindon, Lin being the Britannic word for pool. The pool still exists today but has the more exotic name of Brayford Marina. Under Roman rule Lin was renamed Lindum Colonia and by 96 AD had grown to be one of the finest and important cities in Europe. Many tourists to Lincoln believe that the Cathedral and castle were constructed by the Romans but this is not true as both structures were commenced by the Normans... Read review

...No visitor to Lincoln can fail to see its Cathedral, which along with Lincoln Castle dominates the town and both of these impressive landmarks can be seen from many miles around. Construction of the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Lincoln, to give it its full title, began in 1092 although it was not until 1311 that it was completed. At that time it was not only the tallest building in Britain but the tallest building in the world and remained so for the next 200 years. It originally stood 525 feet (160 metres) tall but during the 16th century disaster struck and the main tower collapsed, which was never rebuilt. ...Ask anybody what they know about Lincoln and they are likely to say Lincoln Cathedral, The Lincoln Imp and of course the might that is Lincoln City FC. Over the past three or four years Lincoln has transformed from a haven for middle-class, middle-aged people to a fairly trendy city. The change really began with the building of the new university. The commerce sector suddenly remembered that this new building would bring students into the city and that these students would need something to do other than visit the cathedral.And so the upper high street has spawned several new trendy bars while St. Marks Street has become the new shopping centre. McDonalds has built two new resturants in the vicinity and even the nightclubs are beginning to look more appealing. It's still got some way to go before reaching the standard of Liverpool... Advantages: Small city, big potential

...I have lived in Lincolnshire all of my life and its only since I left home last year and started university in Durham that I realised how little Lincoln is appreciated or known!! When introducing myself to new people at uni and telling them I came from Lincoln, the majority didn't really know where it actually is which surprised me because its such a beautiful place.
