A MULTI-ETHNIC CITY
Review of London in general by Versatile

Advantages: All in opinion
Disadvantages: All in opinion

...excesses of racial tension are remarkably rare. Most cities in Europe do not have this diversity of origins - making London the city of Europe. The rapid growth in London`s population is due to large-scale immigration. London has overtaken Paris,Venice,Naples,Rome and Milan as it`s population grew. Apart from the people that have settled in London there are still 25 million visitors a year from all over the world. Wide ranges of ethnic communities have developed over the years in London`s boroughs. A number of ethnic traditions have been absorbed into London life. It has the biggest Caribbean carnival in Europe, it has London`s Chinatown, and the central Mosque in Regent`s Park is a sacred place for the Muslim religion. London would be a duller place to eat without the range of good restaurants serving Chinese and Indian dishes. Thanks... Read review

Up & Coming Docklands
Review of Docklands, London by mogadon

Advantages: Easily accessible by London Transport
Disadvantages: Prices are as expensive as being in the West End of London

...Look across the London horizon and the most noticeable building is Canada Tower in the heart of Docklands Canary Wharf. This 50 floor building dominates the Docklands area which is now the most up and coming area of London. Apart from new buildings for Financial Institutions, it has developed some very fasionable penthouse suites overlooking the Thames with City Airport just a couple of miles away. London Arena is also popular for both rock&pop concerts and is home to the Superleague Ice Hockey team, the London Knights. With a recent addition of a shopping mall, Canary Wharf is attracting many visitors. During the summer months, the Canary Wharf Management host many arts events which are free of charge. Why not check one out and see London E14 in all its splendour.... Read review

The Place to Stay
Review of Hilton London Docklands, London by ryankett

Advantages: Lovely, Clean Spacious Rooms, some with a fantastic view of canary wharf
Disadvantages: The evening meal was poor

...I had never heard of the Hilton London Docklands before I had booked, but ended up having two fantastic days in late February this year. The Hilton London Docklands is built directly opposite Canary Wharf on the other side of the Thames, an area of massive redevelopment. Out of London this area has still got a reputation of being rough, but in reality in now consists of expensive townhouses and Luxury apartments. The hotel itself has well over 800 rooms and is split into three wings. Me and my partner had booked a double room, but discovered that it looked more like a large studio flat, considering the price of property in London these days, I was rather pleasantly surprised. There was also a settee and table and chairs and cable TV. The bathroom was gorgeous and the whole place was extremely clean and well keep. The reception... Read review

Review of Getting around in London by tube by carys

Advantages: quick, easy way of travelling across london
Disadvantages: people, delays

...i've been living in london now for a grand total of a year and have (so far) found the tube to be fairly reliable. every now and then there's a random reason for the trains to be delayed, and usually this is perfectly timed in order to cause maximum disruption to my journey to university. but apart from that, and the fact that i only ever travel at rush hour (one of the most annoying things at the end of a loooong day is having to wait for 15 minutes for a train that's got just about enough room for you to get on), the tube is probably a good thing - without it there'd be even more cars on the roads in london, and motorists are possibly even more annoying than people on the tube. but i'd definitely recommend walking in central london wherever possible.... MY FAVOURITE CITY
Review of London in general by Rincon

Advantages: A brilliant city that has everything
Disadvantages: Expensive

...accommodation can be expensive in London, the choice is so wide that I am sure you will find a hotel/hostel that will suit your finance bracket. Nightlife: ********** London is vibrant and there is always something going on. Clubs are plenty a long with great pubs and wine bars. Clubs close late and most wine bars are opened until about 2.00am. Music: ****** No city in Europe can beat London (England) when it comes to music, apart from USA all the music filters out all London first and then slowly distributes to other European cities. The best groups are based here and music will continue to be a force in this country. Why live elsewhere when London has it all.... Ok , So it my not have the sunshine but who cares.... Read review

London Bridges by James Patterson
Review of London Bridges - James Patterson by SMRobinsonHudson

Advantages: Alex Cross genre
Disadvantages: no disadvantages

...London Bridges by James Patterson is a novel featuring Alex Cross as an FBI agent. This is one of many of James Patterson's characters and he is teamed once again in the book with the Wolf and Weasel characters. The story really begins with the evacuation of a town in Middle America and the town then being exploded apart by the character of the Wolf with assistance from the Weasel. There is then a meeting involving the FBI, CIA, Homeland Security, etc to find out what happened. The Wolf who tells them that he is holding them to ransom, along with Britain, France and anyone else he feels like it contacts them. Thus begins the story of London Bridges, not a fast paced novel but a moving novel all the same. It leads you on twists and turns in America, Britain and France chasing after the Wolf and his associates to prevent... Read review

GTA Revamped!
Review of Grand Theft Auto - London 1969 (PC) by Trancemasta

Advantages: Revamped, Interesting, Nice Layout
Disadvantages: Unoriginal, poor longevity

...First of all, I bought this game out of interest, having totally clocked the original version of the game. A review that I had read from a computer magazine was reasonably good, although bear this in mind, it is nothing like GTA2. In essence, GTA London 1969 is edited version of the binaries, giving different cars, and different town layouts, which look rather eclectic, very much like London then, although it isn't the real McCoy. The missions are quite good, apart from the first level, which is rather stupid in my opinion where all you have to do is nick a scooter and dump it a garage. When could you call that a level? Although to me, GTA London is a bit of disappointment, as it lacks the longevitity of the original GTA BIG TIME, and the originality is not there at all. If you haven't bought the original GTA, you can't go far... Read review

Review of Londinium: London in the Roman Empire - John Morris by frkurt

Advantages: A great history of the earliest days of a great city
Disadvantages: -

...'Londinium: London in the Roman Empire' by John Morris is an absolutely wonderful book on the history of London's origins. A narrative history that is thorough and interesting, this text covers a wide range of historical issues. Morris organises the book in three sections: The Making of London, Roman London, and The Survival of London. Apart from these three primary sections is an Introduction, notes, bibliography, and an index. Morris correctly identifies that prior to Rome, there was no London, and after Rome, not much is known about/heard of from London for hundreds of years. Therefore, to understand London, one must have at the very least a basic understanding of Rome -- Roman architecture, Roman social structures and hierarchy, Roman military and economic institutions, and Roman concerns. There are two primary sources... Read review

Expensive and boring
Review of London Eye, London by leematthews

Advantages: Easy to get to
Disadvantages: Expensive

...What a waste of time. The London Eye is frankly appalling, not only do you have to queue for hours to get even near the ticket office, the prices at extremely high (family of 2 adults and a child will be about £25), and once more the ‘flight’ only lasts 30minutes. We took our flight at dusk, which was NOT a good idea as almost nothing of London could be seen – apart from the lights of London City Airport in the distance. Each ‘capsule’ on the wheel can hold about 10 people comfortably, and has handy compass directions on the walls – so as to orientate yourself. There are seats inside the pods –be they only wooden, and in daylight, the view around London would be fantastic. There was also the provision of an ‘air-sickness’ area, where, if the need arose you could disgorge yourself... Read review
