Advantages: evening degrees
Disadvantages: evening degrees
...Birkbeck College could in one way be described as the 'Open University' of the University of London. While it awards the prestigious University of London degree, it specialises in evening courses, suited to the needs of people in full-time employment. The academic standards of the courses are high, and many of the staff top academics.
There is however a down-side to this. If you are looking for a wider education and experience rather than just a degree, Birkbeck is not the place for you. Because of the way the degree is structured, many of its students never put in an appearance outside teaching hours and the community spirit can be somewhat limited.
At times, the financial restrictions of one of the poorer London colleges can also make themselves felt. The College's own Library facilities are limited, and access to near-by Senate...

Advantages: Social Life, Clubs and Societies are great.
Disadvantages: London can be expensive, you have been warned.
