Prague city guide
Review of Prague (Lonely Planet City Guides) - Neil Wilson by
sk0680
Advantages: Good level of detail and recommendations
Disadvantages: Not very easy to use initially
...We went to Prague on a mystery tour, not being told where we were going until we got to the airport, so this book was bought on a whim from East Midlands Airport (a lot of my travel guides are like that!)
Twenty of us went together and this was the only guide we had between us! It performed admirably. The book itself is well set out, with general maps at the back and useful information (phrases, transport, exchange rates etc) inside the front cover. Inside, the guide covers history and culture of the the area before moving onto places to see, eat, drink and sleep.
The review of our hotel (Andels) is spot on, it is a very modern glass and marble place (a little like an upmarket Ikea!), exactly as it says in the book. We found several places to eat, both snacks at lunch time and evening meals from the guide, and all coped admirably...

Mini break must see
Review of Prague (Czech Republic) by
Clara
Advantages: Beautiful, romantic, delicious, compact
Disadvantages: All the other flipping tourists!
...Bit lame title but I decided to avoid the punfully obvious 'Czech it out' or similarly painful.
I decided to book a trip to Prague for a surprise wedding anniversary trip and as a result have won many, many brownie points from husband.
Prague is special mostly due to its architecture. Basically the buildings are mostly old and mostly lovely, in their various 11th-19th century ways. It has survived largely intact from modernisation and bombing, although empires have lived and died in this fantastic city. Whilst it may have lost it's previous eastern bloc slightly backward charm, being these days fully equipped for its hordes of visitors, if you swim against the tides of tourists you will find yourself in a delightful place where there is much to delight the senses. Let me explain
Sight - I've already mentioned the architecture. I...

You will have a Cracking time in Krakow
Review of Krakow (Poland) by
HannahBoo
Advantages: Beautiful Historic City, Cheap Food and Drink, Cellar Bars, Biggest Square in Europe, Good position in Eurpoe so there are many opportunities for travel.
Disadvantages: The Traffic
...***WHERE IS KRAKOW?***
I visited Krakow in September 2006 and spent 7 days there in total. Krakow is a medieval city in southern Poland. For those of you who don't know, Poland is in Eastern Europe and is bordered by Russia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Germany, Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Poland's location therefore is ideal for people who wish to travel. We originally intended to visit the Ukraine, however we did not manage to book our train tickets in time. Therefore we booked train tickets to Prague in the Czech Republic. I will talk a little more about this later in my review where I will compare the two cities of Krakow and Prague.
***WHEN TO VISIT***
Krakow has cold winters; the average minimum temperature in Krakow in January and February is -5 Celsius. But temperatures can...

GREASE UP YOUR MAVIS AND CZECH THIS OUT
Review of Prague Five by
LostWitness
Advantages: Good crowd, cool venue
Disadvantages: Pick the right night - or sit on your own
...when everyone has decided to stay at home, at which point it seems large and lonely. This is a club for people who want to dance and enjoy the choons – it’s not really a pulling or “drinking yourself stupid” kind of place. I think that Prague Five treads just the right side of pretentiousness – I like clubs to play good music, have a good crowd and be in an interesting place. Prague Five pretty much fulfils all these requirements.
Oh – the toilets are clean too.

Prague Diary and Review
Review of Prague in general by
Briz_Hatchings
Advantages: Beautiful city, cheap if you hit the right places
Disadvantages: Rather disorganised and very easy to get ripped off
...nightlife we hit a place called 'The Zombie Bar' that we'd seen the day before. It was here that Tauf suggested we tried Absinthe, we did this and then stumbled out into the streets of Prague charged as you like. After a bite to eat in Macdonald's where under the influence of Absinthe I walked into the woman's toilets we moved on to an Irish bar, not much life but a bit more than the previous bar. All the staff in the place were as far as I remember Irish, Australian or British so they all spoke English. We also met a lone guy called Jeff (ex-oxford, genuine smoothy) who we decided to hit a recommended club with.
The club, 'Lavka' apparently charged no entry fee but there was one of 50 Czech whatevers taken by some dodgy git standing in the entrance. Just your genuine cheesy club really. Jeff bought us both a beer and proceeded to try and pull...

The soul of Prague
Review of Prague in general by
Autumn-Swallow
Advantages: Fantastic music
Disadvantages: non
...Music, music, this is the only impression that is deeply stamped in my memory after my first visit to Prague a couple of years ago.
Prague is the city of music. Plenty of concerts, musicals and operas, huge or small, everyday everywhere. It seems like Prague will not be alive without music! It is the soul of Prague. i believe that many locals are well 'musically' educated as i find that many locals carry a musical instrument in their hands, especially violin.
Further more, the tickets are relatively cheap as compared to England and the performers are very profesional. I generously give thumb ups to all the concerts and operas that I have been to. This is what we want, isn't it? Especially for budget travellers like myself.
Besides, there are lots of music shops where you can find good quality musical instruments and scores. And I...

kafka?
Review of Castle, Prague by
lewiscrofts
Advantages: lots
Disadvantages: none
...it is impossible that kafka was thinking of this place when he wrote of the oppressive castle in his novel of the same name. the prague castle is quite simply exquisite. if you take the time to clmb up you will see some awesome sights, having the best view of pargue down below, furthermore there is a great church on the top and if you hang aroundlong enough you willsee the changing of the guard, which is well worth the wait. here is the real tourists part, everything clean and prim, but don't be fooled down in the town is where the real prague is to be seen....

Best Restaurant in Prague?
Review of Oakwell, Prague by
oakwell
Advantages: Exquisite Food
Disadvantages: Formal, high prices for Prague
...We had the advantage of visiting Circle Line on a business conference and had the resturant recommended by Czech hosts. The card says 'best restaurant in Prague' and I'm not going to argue. Elegant and formal inside, it's on the castle side of the river on Malostanske Namesti 12 (tel 575300 21-3) so may be quite hard to find (take a taxi).
Prices are high for Prague - budget on around £25 to £30 per head - but it's amongst the top 3 restaurants I have eaten in ever, worldwide. Simply exquisite food and service in a french style. Not huge portions but beautifully presented. If this restaurant was in London it would be in the Sunday Times every week!
For a special occasion in Prague book ahead for this one....

Unbelievable
Review of Prague in general by
Aquila
Advantages: One of the world's great cities.
Disadvantages: Remnants of the communist system still to be found.
...There's absolutely no-where quite like Prague.
This city survived the 2nd world war without getting splattered, and survived the age of concrete monstrosity building more or less untouched. Its the gem in a country with some mighty fine city architecture, and outshines Cracow, its nearest rival.
In many ways Prague is high culture - opera and organ recitals, galleries and a central European cafe culture. But its also a city that is alive. The streets buzz at all hours. There's a great mix of nationalities, and a sense that this city is going places - away from communism, and into a much brighter future.
Tourists tend to put prices up, but Prague is still cheap in western terms....

Prague is such a picturesque city
Review of Prague (Czech Republic) by
bazza1603
Advantages: Cheap place to visit.Far nicer than expected
Disadvantages: Language not easy to understand or speak. But most speak english
...I visited Prague in March 2000 with my girlfriend. We arrived in Prague after a 3 hour flight from the UK via Amsterdam for £150 incl tax ex Newcastle. The journey time time to the city with a Limo whcih we booked with our hotel , took 30 minutes and cost only £12.00 plus TIP.I would recommend booking the limo service if possible, as taxis in Prague can be expensive as unscrupulous drivers can charge toursits what they feel like.
Prague is a very compact city, and therefore I would not recommend hiring a car. Most of Prague is connected on a tram system which is beneficial way of traveling. You can buy a tree day ticket whcih is also valid on the bus and underground for only £3.00.You can also walk around Prague , but beware of the banks...they are steep than they look!!!!Or is it just we being unfit??The clime to the top is worth...
