Reviews of lpg stations
Having a gas
Review of LPG Conversions by
Katenray
Advantages: Cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap...
Disadvantages: Availability in some areas
...to install LPG pumps at all of their petrol stations. In addition to this, there are many other outlets at places such as farm shops, gas suppliers and small independant garages (often where they convert cars as well). A full list of LPG outlets is available at www.autogas.co.uk.
Safety wise, LPG is not a problem. The tanks are rigorously tested, and are far less likely to rupture than a petrol tank. In the event of a fire, the tank is unlikely to explode, instead the gas will vent and burn, well before the pressure builds up to an extent where the tank will rupture.
I am going to sell my coupe soon as I am getting a company car. Will it be dual fuel? Definitely. I have absolutely no intention of ever running a petrol car again.
I hope this little report is useful, and if you have any questions on this subject, please feel free to ask....

Boycott petrol, buy LPG
Review of Petrol Price Debate by
madwolf
Advantages: Clean, cheap
Disadvantages: Expensive conversion, not available everywhere yet
...I had my 1967 Land Rover converted to run on LPG a year ago.
Since then, the £850 conversion has paid for itself.
The differential between LPG and petrol is getting wider; when I had the conversion done, LPG was 36p a litre, and Unleaded was 69.9p. Now I pay 38p a litre for LPG and have seen Unleaded for as much as 86.9p.
The gap has widened by an astonishing 15p!
It's not cheap to convert cars, and there is the problem of where to put the extra tank, but it is definitely worth considering, provided there is somewhere near you where you can fill up. This is going to get easier soon as more and more forecourts get LPG pumps. BP is committed to installing them in hundreds of stations.
There is also the advantage that as LPG (which is just Propane) burns more cleanly than petrol it means your oil lasts longer without changing...

LPG Vehicles,Should you or Shouldn't you
Review of LPG Conversions by
Rich1972
Advantages: Cheaper fuel costs/extended service intervals
Disadvantages: Finding petrol stations that sell LPG
...fuel costs dropped around 35% .
It is amazing how many people come up to you in petrol stations asking for information on LPG & what you think of it,A lot of people have heard of it but are very sceptical about having there cars converted.
I never found it an issue locating Petrol stations that sold LPG,but even if you were caught short you just filled the car up with a little petrol & carried on your way.
The service intervals that were recomended to me were double the manufacturers service intervals & the vehicle never let me down once, I have since sold the vehicle & the new owner is as impressed with it as I was....

A matter of calculation
Review of LPG Conversions by
MuratM
Advantages: Low cost
Disadvantages: Many in the long run
...Although I never had a converted (or already installed) LPG system vehicle, I had done a very thorough research on users for a decision if I should convert as well or not.
In Turkiye (most of you call it Turkey) almost all the taxi cabs and most of the municipal busses are equipped with LPG. As you would see an Austin in the UK or Chevrolet Caprice or Checker Marathon (not anymore though) in NYC, taxi cabs here in Turkey are virtually all Tofas (Turkish made under Fiat licence, same but with a facelift body style with a Regatta)
I consulted with many of the taxi drivers (I have a cab station only a walk away to my home) for a conversion of my Renault Megane 1.6 liter 16V. for economy, as it was my daily driver, which I drive like 150 kms each and every day.
The savings it helps is impressive but :
1- The engines are not designed...

Autogas at Helston
Review of Q Jet Gables Filling Station, Cornwall by
MartinImber
Advantages: Handy for Helston, cheaper than Penrhyn place
Disadvantages: Handy only for Helston & Lizard
...I used this place 3 times while I was on holiday, it is on the main Falmouth to Helston road, and is a petrol station as well.
They have one gas pump within the petrol and diesel pumps.
Prices are not bad, they were the cheapest in the area.
There is a fully featured shop as well.
Cards are taken, as is cash and cheques.
There is also a dog wash on the site!!!!
This is the only LPG filling station for the Lizard peninsular, the next nearest being at Penrhyn.
They are open 7 days a week and I called in quite late one evening but they are not 24 hour.
The pump was a different design to others I have used, but worked fine.
It would not be practical to fill up here while towing but is not impossible....

Hats off to Daihatsu!
Review of Daihatsu Hijet Van by
caixta
Advantages: Cheapest people carrier on the market
Disadvantages: Rear two seatbelts are not the inertia type
...I'm on my third Hijet MPV. (My first one was inexplicably stolen, much to the hilarity of my friends!) We had only owned it a few weeks, but felt pretty lost without it. We now have an immobiliser. I love our present one, and according to my local dealer, there are no plans to discontinue making them.
My latest one was bought from brand new and it is a bi-fuel model. This means it runs on either petrol or LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). You just flick a switch to swap between fuels. I use LPG mostly, but keep petrol for back up in case I'm far from an LPG station, which doesn't often happen. The LPG option was being offered at the time for free but it normally costs about £800. The advantage of LPG is that this fuel is roughly half the price of unleaded petrol and it is more environmentally friendly too. (Something about it being a by...

Zafira 1.6 Dual Fuel helps the environment
Review of Vauxhall Zafira Design 1.6i 16v Dualfuel by
LJOne
Advantages: Economical and environmentally friendly
Disadvantages: Sometimes finding those autogas filling stations is a challenge
...THE VAUXHALL ZAFIRA
The Vauxhall Zafira was launched in 1999 with the 1.6 and 1.8 litre petrol or 2.0 Di diesel engines. Air conditioning was standard in all but the entry level model. However, in 2000 the entry or base level was discontinued and the Zafira was left with the Club, Comfort and Elegance models. In April 2002 the Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) / petrol dual fuel option was introduced with a 1.8 litre engine and by August 2002 a 1.6 litre LPG dual fuel option arrived in Comfort trim only. Later in the year there were 1.6 and 1.8-litre LPG Design dual fuel models available.
The Zafira was innovative when it was launched. Seven seats over three rows were squeezed into the people carrier, but due to the pioneering Flex7 system, you could fold up to five of them to suit any journey. Safe handling is also ideal for drivers who...

LPG CONVERSIONS
Review of Petrol Price Debate by
debbora
Advantages: FAR FAR CHEAPER
Disadvantages: NOT YET WIDELY AVAIL.
...Hello everybody concerned about petrol prices. Unfortunately the prices are just going to keep going up. But if you are seriously concerned about this I would read what I have to say and implement it if you can.
It currently costs £500 to convert your car to run on LPG. If you do this, the government will give you £100 back of that money as an environmentally friendly initiative. Now comes the best bit. Not only will your car run smoother as the LPG is 100 octane, at present it costs just 33p per litre.
The government will not up the tax on this as they will be penalised by the EU for being non environmentally friendly.
I know several companies who have converted their fleet to LPG and now, not only is it saving them a lot of money, they also say that their cars and vans are paying for themselves. Has there ever been a time when you...

Cheaper petrol - well sometimes
Review of petrolprices.com by
HuwBach
Advantages: Will save you money
Disadvantages: Sometime a little out of date
...The website allows you to search by town or post code, and will list the cheapest petrol/diesel in that area. You can choose which fuel to display, and the size of the search area.
To get the full info you need to register your email address, but there is no cost. You then get the details on an individual basis for each petrol station. You can get details for unleaded, super unleaded, LRP, LPG, diesel and premium diesel.
You can even get email alerts for up to three post code and fuel combinations, and get the info daily if you want. The information is sent in the middle of the day, and relates to data from the previous day, so is sometimes a day out of date.
I find it useful when travelling areas away from home when I'm not familiar with the area. The info may be a slightly out of date by the time you get there, but it still gives...
