...I have recently been away on business for a meeting at one of our German offices. This meant flying into Frankfurt Airport, in order to get the best of my time and fit in with other meetings and business I flew from Manchester by BA and intended to fly back by Lufthansa. I have done the journey before and generally I had an ambivalent attitude towards Lufthansa. They were neither particularly good and yet there was nothing specifically bad or annoying about them. That is, until my flights last week. Now many people may not be aware that Lufthansa are presently going through a number of pilots strikes. I certainly was not aware until I got to our offices in Mainz and they said that these strikes were happening every Thursday. I was due to fly back 22:20 by Lufthansa. Advantages: Excellent product for intercontinental travel, extremely improved punctuality, good meals on longhaul flights

...I was a regular Economy class traveller with Lufthansa for 1 year between Heathrow and Frankfurt. From my experiences with other airlines I would rate them as 'average'. The flights I had were almost always overbooked leading to myself joining the standby queue on occasions. Despite the overbooking and delays leaving Frankfurt, the majority of my flights landed on time which I see as a very good quality of service. The food in Economy is of a poor standard, the beer was ok, but the wine always seemed to be served with bits of cork floating in it! Given the prices my company was paying for flying with Lufthansa, I would not recommend them. However, the quality of service was reasonable, so given a reasonable price I would fly with them again. ...To be honest, I have never contemplated going with lufthansa because of the bad comments i heard and seen on the internet over the years. However, back in May 07, I decided to give it a go because Lufthansa is the only airline which can offer me a reasonable price for my trip to Japan and its scheduled flights fitted my travelling plan perfectly at the time. So, this review will be based on my to and fro 16 hours long ride to Japan (I am not too sure about short trips within europe) - pls note (ECONOMY class) Before i flew, i was already informed that lufthansa airline have a terrible in flight entertainment. ...I was booked on an Alitalia flight from Bombay to Rome recently and infortunately the Alitalia flight was delayed for about 6 hours. Being a Business Class passenger they therefore transferred my ticket to Lufthansa from Bombay to Frankfurt and Frankfurt to Rome. Lufthansa use a 747 from Bombay to Frankfurt so I was expecting good things since Alitalia use a smaller MD-11 aircraft and since I had never travelled on Lufthansa previously. As soon as I entered the aircraft and approached my seat all my expectations were gone. The Business Class section is huge. They must be having at least 80 seats. The seats are a lot smaller than other airline seats. The service was not all that attentive although they did provide you with all the usual service that one would expect in Business Class. ...If you ever have cause to fly to Hanover, it's worth considering Lufthansa. I never thought I would write an opinion on an airline, but I was so impressed with them, I think they deserve it. (My journey was almost incident-free, hence the short review). I've just returned from a weekend in Hameln, (where the pied piper solved the rat problem) and took a Lufthansa return to Hanover airport. Why Lufthansa? They were the cheapest - but with respect, there's not a huge choice of carriers. The plane was amazing. It was quite small, but had leather seats throughout. Not only were the seats leather, but also I had ample legroom. No deep vein thrombosis for me! You don’t get a decent meal- a sandwich and a drink only on this flight. First class get the full Monty, but I traveled cattle class, so couldn’t complain... Read review

Advantages: Good connections via Hub airports
Disadvantages: Catering on short haul flights

...I have found that Lufthansa has improved a lot in recent years. Connections from the United Kingdom to hub airports like Frankfurt and Munich are really very good. On the down side, I have always found it difficult to obtain well priced fares direct on their own website, and instead, have opted to search for Lufthansa flights on travel portals, which always seem to come in cheaper. Check out Expedia and eBookers for example. On the groud, they have good check in facilities - via the web, internet and so on, and their lounges are not too bad at all. For example, they do light catering in the First and Star Alliance Gold lounges in Frankfurt, as well as free showers if you're arriving off a long haul flight, or just generally need to scrub up. ...I’m not in the habit of flying with Lufthansa, as every time I check, their prices are quite high. However, now Lufthansa is member of the Starfleet and works together with SAS, among other airlines, which results in the occasional less expensive ticket. I flew only a short distance with them, Berlin - Kopenhagen. The plane was spotless, which is really something one appreciates when locked up into a plane for any length of time, no matter how short. I only had breakfast on that particular flight, but it was delicious! Sure, it wasn’t ham ‘n eggs or anything cooked, only a sandwich, but that was top-notch. They also distributed little promotional gifts, chocolates and such. As to the flight attendants - sigh. Okay, the men may appreciate that they seem to get chosen for their looks.... tall, blond, pretty. Yet I sure could have done... Read review

...Normally I fly with Lufthansa, since it is one of the safest airlines, where you do not have the feeling the plane will fall apart in few seconds. In an opinion further above someone complained about having been treated badly for being not German. Well, I am German and encountered also an insolent stewardess, but all the others were fine. However I cannot say that Lufthansa is very caring and compassionate. My mother became very ill and I should return earlier from Detroit than expected. When asking to change the return date of my ticket, it took me two days and several phone calls and faxes to find out that, although my ticket was quite expensive, there is not possibility to change my return date. When I asked if there were still seats free they said yes, but still they cannot change the ticket. What policy is this? I am not returning... Read review

Advantages: seats!

...Any review of Lufthansa has to start with a comment about the seats on the aircraft; they are simply superb. I flew from Manchester to Leipzig, connecting in Frankfurt, and even on this relatively short flight the seats were easily the most comfortable I have had the pleasure to sit in on an aircraft - well padded and supportive in the right places, though the grey/yellow colour scheme belonged more in the late 1980's than today. Being a short haul flight, food was limited, and disappointing; consisting, as it did, of some very tired sandwiches. Vegetarian options also appeared to be limited. The flight attendants were courteous without being friendly as such, although this is not in itself a bad thing; and was probably a result of the large numbers of businessmen on the plane.
