A touch of glass
Review of Marks & Spencer Floral Crystal Nail File by
lesa60
Advantages: Kind to nails, hygienic, longevity
Disadvantages: May break
...Magazines have been touting glass nail files as a 'must have' for some time now and as someone who likes to take care of my nails, I invested in one about 8 months ago.
Although I've tried emery boards, I was never a fan. I knew they were supposed to be better for you than the traditional metal files but I wasn't impressed. They always seemed to be too thick and rough, reminiscent of the side of a box of matches and I found a metal file was better and did the job reasonably well.
I actually bought this M & S glass nail file because, one, I thought it would be kinder to my nails and two, because I loved the look of the crystal decorations on it. I didn't really expect any change in my nails; I just wanted to try something different. The price was £9.50 - quite expensive but as it lasts forever, (allegedly) then not too bad...

Hit The Nail On The Head
Review of Nail File, The - Jimmy Nail by
scampi1
Advantages: Some awesome tracks
Disadvantages: One or two fillers
...As greatest hits collections go, you at least have to give this one 10/10 for the originality of it's title. No 'Greatest Hits', 'Best Of' or 'Ultimate Collection' here, oh no it's 'The Nail File'. A bit of a pun I know, but at least it's different.
JIMMY NAIL
Jimmy Nail first came into the public eye as Oz, the loutish Geordie bricklayer in Auf Weidersehen Pet. Initially only known for his acting, we got a brief hint of his singing in the second series of Auf Weidersehen Pet. He had however, started off his 'showbiz' career in a 1970's rock band called the King Crabs, where Jimmy's party piece was to wear a pink girls dress on stage!
His first solo album 'Take it or leave it' was released in 1986 and included a cover version of the Rose Royce song 'Love don't live here anymore'. Jimmy then concentrated on TV work...

Ain't no doubt it's Jimmy Nail!
Review of Nail File, The - Jimmy Nail by
Mel27
Advantages: Big hit singles
Disadvantages: A few average tracks
...This Greatest Hits Collection was released in 1997.
Jimmy first hit the charts in 1984 and then 8 years later, he was back! In August 1992, he scored a huge number one hit with "Ain't No Doubt", which was taken from the album "Growing Up In Public". I'm not entirely sure about the title of that album. Of all the artistes that could be deemed to have had to suffer growing up in public, to my mind, Nail isn't one of them.
However, what about "The Nail File"?! Clever title!
The first track is "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" and it's a great cover version. I've always loved this song. I like the original version and the Madonna version but Jimmy's is fantastic and it's nice to hear a man sing it.
The second track is "Ain't No Doubt" which was Jimmy's big 1992 summer smash. It's quite amazing that he could have so...

Hard As Nails!
Review of USA Nails, Basingstoke, Hampshire by
ailuj34
Advantages: Beautiful, Acrylic Nails
Disadvantages: Cost
...? ~~
On the outside of the shop in the window, are trays of all different types of nail designs and colours for you to choose. The only draw back is that to have some of the more elaborate designs, you need nails the length of the M3.
Inside the shop it is painted in pink and cream, nothing incredibly flash, but pleasant.
As you enter the shop, you are greeted by one of the employees and asked if you have an appointment, and what you would like to have done.
There are six tables with a chair on each side (one for you, one for the employees). They ask you to take a seat and then.........
~~ How Is It Done? ~~
* First of all your nails are cut down to make them really short.
* An electric file is applied over the top of your original nails to buff them up.
* The plastic tips are applied to the end of each of your own nails...

Love at first sight
Review of Sally Hansen Ruby & Millie Perfect Nail File by
carly_pussycat
Advantages: V.gentle but effective, smart looking, doesn't wear out
Disadvantages: Price for some people?
...wallet which is about three times the width of the actual file and seals at the top with a snap lock. It has a metal loop at the top to be hung up in the shop and you can remove it if you wish, but I think it looks rather smart. Behind the file is a glamorous looking lady and on the reverse are instructions on how to use and care for the file.
THE FILE
The file itself is about seven inches long and an inch wide. The majority is frosted glass and the remainder is clear, sporting the Ruby & Millie name. Apparently it is made from crystal glass, whatever it is, it looks extremely classy. The Perfect Nail File is unlike any other regular nail file – firstly, it is made of glass, and secondly it is the smoothest file I have ever felt. Forget the cheap sandpaper – this is where it’s at!
METHOD OF USE
The file is as simple...

Speedy nail filing
Review of Carmen Nailcare System by
Zedex
Advantages: Saves time, more accurate filing than emery boards, durable product
Disadvantages: Nail drying chamber doesn't really work
...Hi, I’m Zedex, and I’m a nail fanatic. I spend about 3 hours every Sunday looking after my nails (stripping, soaking, moisturizing, filing, painting 4 coats [at least], painting designs on them etc.). There. I’ve admitted it.
But don’t let that put you off this if you’re a novice. My mum has one too and she thinks it’s great. My sister got her it about a year ago and Mum said to me it's the best present she's had for years. This surprised me as I thought maybe it was just me, being a nail fanatic, who loved it, but my mum, who looks after her nails now and again but doesn't paint them that often loves the fact that it takes her half the time to file them.
It basically can be used instead of a normal emery board to file your nails (that cuts out most of my male readers, then) and is marketed as a total nail system – it shapes, files...

The Ultimate Colour Choice for Nails!
Review of Boots No.7 Ultimate Nail Colour by
herby30
Advantages: Goes On Easily
Disadvantages: Smell
...clearly, there are no instructions to be found, but for most of us, who are experienced in the art of polishing nails, this shouldn’t be a problem.
There is a sticker on the bottle telling you the shade which in this case is Dusty Pink, but there are quite a variety of colours to choose from, some quite garish, others very nice, it just depends on your taste, but I guarantee even the fussiest among you will find a shade within their fantastic range of colours.
**THE PRODUCT**
After much effort I finally managed to get the bottle opened and the smell was apparent but not overwhelming as some nail varnishes tend to be, according to the bottle, this is supposed to be fragranced free, but I can assure you there is definitely a smell of nail varnish, I’m not going to insult your intelligence by attempting to describe the smell...

Perfect nails every time
Review of Nails Inc Belgrave Place by
Angelil
Advantages: lovely rich colour, long-lasting/chip-resistant, reasonable price
Disadvantages: none
...seem to fan out easily during application.
--Application--
Prep your nails first by filing them, buffing them, soaking your hands and removing the cuticles gently using a dissolver, a scraper and a cuticle cream. Having applied and let dry a base coat, unscrew the lid of the varnish, wipe off any excess on the inside of the bottle neck, and carefully apply a coat of varnish to the nails. Add a further coat after the first coat has dried for maximum effect, before finishing with a decent top coat. Nothing unusual there.
--Texture/consistency--
Perfect - not gloopy, sticky or watery. Just went on really smoothly without running or bleeding.
--Appearance--
In the bottles and on the nails alike, the colour of the varnish is strong, deep and vibrant. It's also got a really impressive shine to it, even without a top coat, that makes...

Funky Nails!
Review of Revlon Colour Illusions Nail Enamel by
herby30
Advantages: NIce Shimmer!
Disadvantages: None
...print, very few instructions to be found, the manufacturers say to

**THE PRODUCT**

Supernails Nail Food grow ur own fantastic nails!
Review of Supernail Nail Food by
mints4merlin
Advantages: fantastic looking nails, soft cuticles and strengtens too!
Disadvantages: Expensive, not avaliable in my supermarkets
...it being washed off when you visit the bathroom or do household chores.
Apply daily for best results. I have been using mine for a month now and I started to see results in two weeks with my cuticles being visibly reduced and the annoying little nicks I used to get from chips catching on my clothing or tights became less of an occurance.
Although very expensive at £4.19 a bottle i does last quite a while, in fact I'm still on my first bottle and have about a third of it still left. The smell is also good, I hate some nail creams that honk of chemicals or some artifical food scent to cover it up. This has a sort of neutral fresh smell and once applied and started to soak in doesnt really have a potent smell at all.
Also the speed at which my nails grew also inreased which might be a pain you might think as it requires more filing...
