Milan "No Ashtray" Malpensa
Review of Milan - Malpensa (MXP) by
gt5952
Advantages: Clean, Loads of restaurants, comfy seats
Disadvantages: No where to smoke
...Imagine being tired, yet handcuffed to a running machine thats on full pelt, welcome to Milan Malpensa.
The Airport that doesn\'t accommodate the needs of the smoker, (And the staff almost start laughing when you ask where the smoking area is!) brings to you the largest Duty free shop Ive ever seen in the EU, quite a few restaurants and cafe\'s and several bathrooms (Where the occasional smoker hangs out waiting to be handcuffed and pinned to the floor by the Italian Police)
The airport is connected to Milan by the Milano-Varese motorway as well by a dedicated train called \"Malpensa Express\". It is also connected to Linate Airport by a scheduled bus service. The Milan airport system has a third international airport, Orio al Serio Airport, which serves low-cost and charter traffic.
Malpensa handled over 21.7 million passengers...

Bad Thoughts
Review of Milan - Malpensa (MXP) by
zoe_page
Advantages: Friendly staff, cleanish, selection of shops and restaurants
Disadvantages: Low level security,
...If you put “mal pensa” into altavista’s translation page, and click on Italian to English, it gives you a rather unreasurring “badly it thinks” as it meaning. I know this because at the moment I'm testing MT packages - including Systran which powers Altavista - and having exhausted all the techo-babble test texts, I've moved onto the more interesting world of ops - tranlsating them out of English into a random lang and back again, just to see what happens.
Flying to Italy two days after my last A Level exam last year, I didn’t have a choice of airports in Milan – although there are two in the city, BA (and after the previous op, who else would I chose to fly with?) only fly to Malpensa from Manchester. A month later, wiser, more tanned, and a little richer, my job was over and I flew home...

A good getaway to the Alps
Review of Milan - Malpensa (MXP) by
NATALIA70
Advantages: Clean
Disadvantages: Far from Milan
...Malpensa is one of the 2 main airports to go to Milan.
However, it is situated more than 30 miles away form the centre of Milan.
Who should use this airport then?
Well, if you are NOT going to Milan, and instead you wish to go to the Alps, Malpensa is closer to the mountains than Linate.
If you wish to go to Milan, you can either do so by taxi, whihc will cost you roughly 30-35 quids, or by train, which is cheaper, around 4-5 pounds.
Make sure you take one of the white taxis, the ones from Milan, and not the other taxis from cities around Milan, since the Milan taxis are obliged to charge you by the meter, while the others charge you a higher fee, normally 150,000 liras (about 50 pounds).
If you are driving into Malpensa, do it slowly! After 11 Sep, there is a permanent police check, and the guys there do nto appreciate...

The Hotel in the Middle of Nowhere
Review of Ramada Malpensa, Milan by
Katieshaz
Advantages: I wasn't paying, my room was clean, good breakfasts.
Disadvantages: Lack of facilities, poor customer service.
...This is yet another hotel I stayed in when flying as cabin crew. I was on a trip here for 4 days, flying from Milan Malpensa Airport staying at this 4 star hotel.
Location:
About a 15 minutes drive from the airport, the hotel provides a free shuttle bus services with irregular timings. This is the place to stay if you have to go to the airport, definitely not the place to stay if you want to explore the city of Milan! This hotel is in the middle of nowhere, on the edge of a little town. Nice scenery yes, but not much to do!
First impressions:
Arriving at the hotel in a rather battered hotel minibus with a friendly driver speaking broken English, I was rather under whelmed. As said before, it's in the middle of nowhere, just off a main road. The hotel is a very modern and is painted a very garish shade of orange, not sure who...

Anybody know the Italian for Ciao?
Review of Milan in general by
stuleg
Advantages: Vibrant city
Disadvantages: Expensive
...I travelled to Milan in the December of 2001 with my Dad and Brother for a spot of pre Christmas football watching. The mighty Ipswich Town were in the UEFA Cup and had been drawn against Inter Milan, far too good an opportunity for three die-hard fans to miss. As it turns out the football was a disappointment, (Ipswich lost 4-1 for those who are interested), but the city of Milan was a vibrant metropolis that I enjoyed immensely.
We booked an all-inclusive package for £399 each that included flights, transfers, 1 night in a 3 star hotel and a ticket for the football. We flew from London Stanstead to Milans Malpensa Airport. Our departure was delayed by a couple of hours due to fog in Malpensa, something that seemed to be a regular occurrence. The flight itself took just under three hours and was pleasant and uneventful save...

Impressed by the Duomo
Review of Milan in general by
gard
Advantages: Amazing cathedral (Duomo), Last Supper, great ice cream :-)
Disadvantages: Lots of stuff covered up due to maintenance, mosquitoes :-(
...to the airport. After a few hours and a short stop in Copenhagen we reached Malpensa airport in Milan and stepped out into the big city. That’s the beauty of traveling to a European destination for us: you start to travel in the morning and by noon you are ready to start sightseeing in a new city :-)
The first thing we had to do when we got through customs was to get some cash. As usual we had not brought any cash or travelers cheques…just the VISA card. So after getting some Euros we were ready to head into town and we chose to take the Malpensa Shuttle bus. It cost Ԅ.5 and took about 50 minutes to reach the Stazione Centrale (the main railway station in Milan). The bus trip gave us an opportunity to have a first look at Italy. Malpensa airport is located a bit outside of Milan so it was nice and green driving into the city. When we reached...

HERE IS... MY MILAN
Review of Milan in general by
tiz-taz
Advantages: Beatiful town
Disadvantages: Nothing... I hope!!! ^___^
...Hi! I’m Tizi and I live in Milan.
Yes, I’m Italian girl and I would like to speak about my Milan... so I can help you to know better this town, so beautiful and so difficult.
Maybe you arrive in Italy by airport… or Linate, or Malpensa…
If you arrive from Linate you buy a map at newspaper kiosk, and take a taxi only to arrive at Milan city, because it’s too much expensive.
If you arrive from Malpensa there a little train and with this one you arrive in Milano only with approximately 4.5 £.
So in Milan there’s a very good service by bus, tram (particular bus on rails)
To see the most beautiful places, you can buy a ticket to go to every public transport. In fact with 2.20 euro (about 1 pound and 30 pence) you have a ticket for all day long. Instead with simple ticket you can use...

Nothing special
Review of Milan - Linate (LIN) by
Morgenhund
Advantages: good transport connections
Disadvantages:
...Linate, which is now becoming overshadowed by the new hub at Malpensa is a typical tourist flight airport. Whilst it is just as close to the city centre, if not closer than Malpensa, it has the feel of being a tourist airport. There is a regular bus link which works out cheaper than getting a taxi into the city centre, and it is a fairly standard airport. There are all the usal things there, although when I was there the catering operations were not exactly anything to write home about. The place however is pretty clean, well air-conditioned, something that is useful when you flight gets delayed by six hours and the temperature is rising as are tempers. The baggage recalim is good, and it is easy to get around even if you don't speak Italian....

OK hotel for exploring Milan
Review of Hotel Marconi by
gard
Advantages: Short way to Stazione Centrale (main railway station), short way to the metro, clean room
Disadvantages: Not much on TV, breakfast not very exciting, church bells in the morning
...We stayed at the hotel Marconi for 3 nights during our trip to Milan in June 2003.
Location
We took the Malpensa Express from the airport Malpensa to the Stazione Centrale (the main railway station). Based on our guidebook the hotel was supposed to be located not far from the hotel. It is of course not always easy to navigate when you come to a new city so we did end up walking more than we needed to. The hotel is located on Via F. Filzi number 3 and the easiest way to get there is by walking down the main road from the central station towards Piazza della repubblica. The road Via F. Filzi is the road located parallel on the right hand side and it takes about 10 minutes to walk to the hotel.
The location of the hotel is OK. The main thing for us was that it was located near Repubblica Metro station and from there it was a short...
