The Student's Union is great!
Review of Manchester Metropolitan University by
paule23
Advantages: Great Union
Disadvantages:
...Although I didn't actually go to the Met Uni, I can thoroughly recommend the Students Union as a great place to go in the evening.
I went to Manchester University and although the Union was ok, it was a bit grotty, especially in the Cellar. I started going to the Met Union as I had a friend there, and it is great. There are two main bars, and on 'club' nights it has the advantgae that you can use both.
Top Bar becomes a sort of night club where you can but chips and cheap drinks, while the other remains a normal bar and can be used as a 'chill out' zone. The music is good and there is always a good crowd.
I can't comment on the University itself, but try the Union!...

Great place to visit
Review of Manchester in general by
WAD1-2-3
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...to eat out in, on Wilmslow Road or just down your China town, where you can find exotic foods at reasonable prices. There are a great variety of different cultures in Manchester, which is reflected in the different restaurants.
They have the universities (University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan, UMIST, Salford University) and therefore this city is ideal for students. There is loads of live entertainment, with bands frequently performing at the Manchester Evening News arena.
Also check out the Palace Theatre, where they have some great performances. Again, at reasonable priced.
You can visit Granada Studios, which is a good day out. They have some good rides, and can go on a guided tours around the famous ‘Coronation Street’. If you’re a football fan then you can go down to Maine Road or Old Trafford on Match...

The place for the best degrees and fun
Review of Manchester University by
begum
Advantages: brilliant uni
Disadvantages: none
...One of the top university in the country and one that I would recommend anyone to go to. The Manchester University is a great building, there’s quite a lot of block depending on what you are studying but after a few weeks it won’t be as daunting as your first day.
You do need quite high grades so if you do get offered a place then take it. Manchester University is situated on the top of Oxford Street, one long road and if you walk up that road you will walk past the Manchester Metropolitan opposite the BBC building.
Studying wise Manchester University has got very high success rates and since it is ranked very highly you’re more likely to get a job after you have finished studying.
Located ten minutes away from the City Centre you will never get bored, there’s loads of places to eat, have fun and the night...

You wont regret going
Review of Manchester Metropolitan University by
sam123
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...A lot of students will have finished their A-Levels and will have decided which university to go to if that is what they want. Manchester Met is a university that my sister attends and having visited their many time I can thoroughly recommend it. The entry grades are not as quite tough as Umist (University of Manchester) but the teaching standard is high.
There are a lot of different courses you can chose from, and there is an excellent union with all the facilities, located near a bus station it is easily accessible. It is not for from the other university and has a lot of things for students to do. If you decide to go to this University, you can take advantage of Manchester itself.
It has a good range of shops, bars and clubs. With it being located near the Arndale you can search for a part time job and be successful in getting...

Whippin' Piccadilly
Review of Manchester Metropolitan University by
Tadders
Advantages: Too many to count!
Disadvantages: Rainy weather, a few dodgy surrounding areas
...When the topic of which university we should attend came up at college, it crept up and took me completely by surprise. I knew I wanted to study a degree somewhere, but it was only when my then boyfriend starting applying left, right and centre for places that I realised I might need to put in a bit of groundwork. Being something of a genius, he applied to Cambridge and Oxford (where he was offered places), but as well as putting his brain to good use, he also wanted a bit of fun. Eventually he settled on Manchester University and, whilst I didn't want to do the English degree there, I found that I did want to do the course offered at Manchester Metropolitan University, which was very nearby. I also thought the people there would be a bit more fun. There's a time for work, but there's also a time for play and I was afraid I...

Best of Three
Review of Manchester Metropolitan University by
pennyborton
Advantages: They enrol people, not grades
Disadvantages: Some campuses are a bit spread out.
...I am now nearing the end of second year of study at Manchester Metropolitan University, affectionately known as ManMet or MMU. My course is Consumer Marketing and I’m reading for a Degree.
Initially I never wanted to go to university. All the way through high school I wanted to be a chef and chose to do NVQs relevant to this field instead of sitting A-Levels. So the time came when I left college with my NVQs and had to get a job. This I did. I worked hard for about a year and half until I was a walking zombie. My job had driven me down into the ground. I had a fantastic career set in front of me, working in a restaurant belonging to a certain famous TV chef but unless you have the passion to be a chef you can’t do it. At 19 years old I had a mid-life crisis and on the advice of my boyfriend I contacted ManMet Uni...

Onto a winner.
Review of Metropolitan by
carminator
Advantages: Mouth watering food.
Disadvantages: London prices on drinks.
...The Metropolitan is situated on Lapwing Lane, West Didsbury, Manchester. West Didsbury is a beautiful leafy suburb just south of the city centre, full of trendy student types and rich as you like business folk.
Didsbury has its fair share of pub, bars and restaurant but the Metropolitan stands out for me.
It used to be called the Didsbury and I still confuse people now by saying "I'll meet you at the Didsbury" and they've never even heard of it! Since changing its name and owner it hasn't gone downwards in class, more like upwards.
As you drive into the car park, which is large enough for at least 40 cars, you can tell straight away that this is not full of old men drinking ale. The car park is full of pricey cars, matching the pricey clothes you will no doubt view inside.
There are a couple of entrances, but I mainly use the entrance...

Manchester - so much to answer for
Review of Manchester in general by
nicolemorgan
Advantages: capital of the north, plenty to see and do
Disadvantages: same as in all big cities - just use your head
...Manchester is fast becoming known as the capital of the north and so I’ve decided to take the opportunity on this rather dull day in Manchester, to tell you all about some of its merits. I moved to Manchester just over 2 years ago to live with my partner from the sleepy Shropshire town of Shrewsbury. I’m now considered an ‘honoury manc’ by my boyfriend and his family and I’m very proud to say the least of my new heritage. Manchester today is a big place. While 2.6 million people live within its actual boundaries, over 7 million others live in the wider region, making it second only to London in Great Britain. Now that’s got to be worth writing an op about!
---------------------------------
Location and accessibility

Manchester is one of Britain's largest metropolitan conurbations, set in the old...
