introducing the infamous MK2 VW golf G60
Review of VW Golf II VR6 by  arazmadaz

Advantages: provides the driver with a magical mix of class and power in one small package
Disadvantages: hard to find a mk golf in pristine condition but when found well worth it!

...people always stop and stare in the best way possible. The G60 and the other types of mk2 have survived the years and fashion's of the vast decades and has came through laughing in the VW's designers face. If i needed to point out the few disadvantages of owning a VW golf G60 is regretably the miles to the gallon. Though it does a persistent drive it does need filling up at least 2 times a day, but even at that it can beat alot of new cars on fuel economy. I have just recently discovered that a mk2 vw golf g60 can beat a brand new golf on a straight because of its lightness and of its endurance engine that is the g60's. The VW golf is rated one of the best cars ever! which is to no great suprise when you think of its timeless sporty looks and of its upgradable engine. The VW golf g60 can go from 0... Read review

VW Mk2 Golf GTi
Review of VW Golf II GTI by  mikebrum123

Advantages: Reliable classic. Powerful, agile and still looks great.
Disadvantages: Bland interior.

...The Mk2 Golf GTi is an iconic eighties hatchback. The model I have been driving for the last year is an 1989 8 valve GTi and is a car that has been a pleasure to own and drive. The handling is remarkably deft and capable considering the age of the car and handles as well as, if not better than, many modern hatchbacks. The car is also surprisingly powerful, with far greater acceleration than than many of the sporty new little corsas and clios etc. Most of these Golfs now have very high mileage but that is famously not much of a problem with these cars, many of which have been able to pick up an astronomical mileage. My own has covered nearly 100,000 miles which is actually quite low compared to most mk2 golfs around. The cons of this car for me have been a problem with the gear linkage that is apparently very commen with the mark... Read review

Polo 1.05 mk2 and 3
Review of VW Polo 1.05 by  tomdean79

Advantages: Reliable, Economical, Build Quality, Badge
Disadvantages: Head Gasket

...Mk 2 (round lights) and Mk 3 (square lights) Polo 1.05ltr The Volkswagen Polo 1.05 is the car I would and have bought in times of crisis. I owned my first 1.05 when I was 17, a C reg 1985 silver saloon (the height of fashion!) that cost me £775 8 years ago. This car lasted me 2 years before a tree sent it to car heaven. I can safely say that before its run in with the tree, this car was one of the strongest most reliable car I have ever owned. The car had covered over 100,000 miles and on inspection of the pistons and cylinder head, the engine looked to be in perfect condition. The only reason for the removal of the head was because I though the head gasket was leaking oil, which is a very common fault on these engines, although after a days work I found out it was only the fuel pump that had sprung a leak and cost less... 2006 VW POLO 1.4 Trendline with style packet
Review of VW Polo 1.4 by  batman777

Advantages: Good allrounder, good handling, well built
Disadvantages: lack of equipment (unless paid for), low ground clearance

...small. We have a little baby and his pram won't fit into the boot unless the back seats folded down first. Once the pram is in, back seats can be returned to their original position. Fuel economy is as expected. No diffrent than the rivals. But the offical figures are a little bit on the conservative side. You will surely do burn more than stated in the owners manual. This is my fourth VW and I will probably continue using them for the forseable future. Previous ones included a Polo mk2, Golf mk2 and a 1967 Beetle. I ahe also driven a Passat TDi for work for a few years. If a VW designer is reading this: "In my view VW needs to put more extras in the cars, such as mp3 player, safety features, electric windows for the back as standart. They will make the good cars even more desirable must buys."... Read review

Technics 1200 / 1210 Mk2
Review of Technics SL1200Mk2 Turntable by  giles-y

Advantages: same turntable at home as in the clubs
Disadvantages: heavy

...Technics 1200 / 1210 what more can you say its the number one DJ turntable on the planet. For years and years when i was younger just geting in to Djing all i wanted was a pair of technics. after a few years with other direct drive decks i finally saved enough money to buy a pair i of technics, i bought the SL1200Mk2 because they were silver i did not like the brown of the 1210 much. i have read around and talked to people and aparently the only difference between the 1200 and the 1210 is the colour. I set up my new 1200s and got the tunes out. Wow what a turntable, after years of trying out all other types of direct drive turntables i could instantly see and feel the difference in build quality. the technics weight alot compared to any other turntable, this is because the bottom black base you see is not made of cheap moulded... MK2 Golf GTI's - Built to last!
Review of VW Golf II GTI by  holty69

Advantages: Fast, Solid, Reliable, Built to last, Cheap for Parts now
Disadvantages: Getting old, hard to find a perfect example

...Well what can I say about the MK2 Golf? especially the GTI model imparticular? I have owned 11 MK2's with 7 of them being the GTI model. They are very solid, realiable and will run forever! Not only being very quick, they are excellent to 'mod'. There are many things that you can do to a GTI to suit your style, add rims, adjustable suspensions or even VR6 conversions. If you are interested in this, there are many enthusiast clubs along with shows up and down the country. Be careful when buying your golf as some may have been thrashed, sills may be rusted or clutches may be on there way out. As when buying any car, check all points thoroughly and take a look at a few. Although parts may not be expensive, problems that may exist may end up costing $$$ (e.g. if the bottom of the door is shot, you may need to get another door... Read review

The Best All Round Car of All Time
Review of VW Golf II GTI by  tricky911t

Advantages: Its fantastic in so many ways!
Disadvantages: They dont sell them today!

...miles with it like that so it will be fixed soon, problem is I just love driving that car. When I got the Saab I also looked at the Mk4 GTI1.8t at the same time and went with the Saab becuase that can out accelerate a Porsche991t upto 70 mph, so the speed made me defect from the VW brand but I'm back looking for another car and really its a no brainer. I'm looking at the Mk5 GTI. I have already test driven it once in manual form, a DSG gearbox test drive is on the cards next week, but the dealer is getting info for me on the 3 versions. Theres the Std Mk5 GTI, there is also a GTI Diesel possibly to be branded GTD when that badge last appeared for Mk2, or a GTI Lite. A stripped out light weight version where things like the window winders are manual for example to remove the weight of electric motors. But anyway, if you want a good day... Read review

My Golf and I; an ongoing love affair
Review of VW Golf II CL by  Goran

Advantages: Fast, classy, affordable, spacious
Disadvantages: little things go wrong

..., but this was a minor thing that is expected from a car of this age. I've had the car for 5 months now and it has been excellent. I've had a few problems with it in this time, but ones that were dealt with quite easily with a bit of elbow grease. The first was the carburettor. This got a little clogged up and everywhere I went said to just get a new one as it is a nightmare to take them apart. I got another one from a scrap yard for £30 and it worked fine. The other thing I had a problem with was with the heater matrix valve. This was a common problem with the MK2 golfs and was recalled by VW. It appeared that my valve got clogged up again and meant that the heaters were not blowing out hot air, as the coolant wasn't going round to heat it. A new valve from VW and 5 minutes fitting meant I had heat again (just as well in these cold months). The rest... Read review

Its a sad sad thing
Review of VW Golf II GTI by  shak_y2k

Advantages: great to drive and built to last
Disadvantages: bit boring

...I had the pleasure of owning a Mk.2 GTI from new and covered 120,000 miles over ten years until I wrote it off after skidding on an untreated icy road last Christmas. Even though this model lacked airbags, etc. it still performed well in destruction testing leaving everyone in one piece and limping home under its own power. With the great fun I had with this car over the last decade convinced me to buy another GTI. I bought a Mk.4 GTI Turbo in January and have now covered 8,000 miles without any problem. When I drove this car on test I was impressed by just how far VW had progressed over the last ten years. This car really is a quality item with everything well screwed together and a really nice interior with grippy Recarro seats. On the safety front the car has driver and passenger front and side airbags and three proper three... Read review

The Golf with a bum.
Review of VW Jetta TX 1600 by  dur_kid

Advantages: Cheap used, good quality, parts easy to get hold of.
Disadvantages: None, old farts car.

...After purchasing a cheap car recently for two hundred pounds I must say I have been pleasantly surprised, it is the Golf with a bum as it were the Jetta 1600 TX a 1990 MK2 model for those of you who do not know is the poor relation of the now famous VW Golf. It is identical mechanically to the Golf with cosmetic differences only, therefore it has similar handling qualities and reliability but of course without the street cred, an old man’s car probably but do I really care, no. All I require is reliability and reasonable performance and this can be achieved in this vehicle to a practical level with a willing 1597 cc engine and five-speed gearbox. There are various options of engine size from entry level of 1300 cc, 1600cc, and an 1800 cc fuel injected GT for the more sporty of us, all with Volkswagen quality of build... Read review
