...This is a modern day classic, set in a post apocolyptic america, it follows the exploints of a wanderer. The book bears no resemberlance to the dire kevin costner film of the same name. As with all of Brins books, it is slow to start off with and then becomes more engrossing as you get further into the book, untill finally you cannot put the book down untill you get to the end. This is one of Brins best stand alone novels and is a good start before you read his uplift trilogies.... Read review

Advantages: Good modernised collection of dance music.
Disadvantages: Maybe not what people expect from William Orbit

...William Orbit, the man who relaunched Madonna's career and dance DJ has recently divulged into a slightly alternative them for his latest albumn. He has selected 11 classical pieces of music from the likes of Vivaldi, Beethoven and Handel and added his own modern touch to create Pieces in a Modern Style. The pieces are still at a slow classical speed and are not for those who only like fast dance music. The pieces are also quite disimilar to the Ferry Corsten remixes that had so much airplay when Adagio for Strings was riding high in the charts. However as a relaxing albumn this does just the job. As a respected producer William Orbit has managed to modernise classical music and bring it to the masses.... Read review

...I saw this film on it’s release based on the spcial effects that, for their time, were simply stunning. It’s quite an interesting story really, summed up beautifully by Jeff Goldblums character in the film: God creates dinosaur, god kills dinosaur, god creates man, man kills god, man creates dinosaur, dinosaur eat’s man. Forgive me if I’ve misquoted, but you get the idea. What Spielberg gives us is some decent acting from Sam Neill and Goldblum and a wonderfully likable Richard Attenborough. He deals with the ethics of the scientists are doing in one scene and instead concentrates on the dino’s themselves. And they are impressive. Lost its appeal somewhat over the last few years but still a modern classic.... Read review

...In my opinion the mark of a good perfume is the way people react to it. If that's true, D&G Feminine is a star product. It's a delicate fragrance, but long lasting. Since I've started wearing Feminine, I'm amazed at the number of people comment on it, guys love it, even perfect strangers have asked me what perfume I'm wearing. Each time I wear it it lifts my mood, it's not like one of those overpowering perfumes that give you a headache after 5 minutes. The packaging leaves a little to be desired but I can confidently say that D&G Feminine is a modern classic which be around for quite a while. Go out and buy it!!... Read review

...Why has Grease gone down so well as a classic? Is it a movie or a musical? I think musical. The soundtrack has all the songs from the movie on it but personally I think that they are too old to still be enjoyed today by young people because they have a golden oldies style (shudder). Personally this is definitely NOT my cup of tea, in fact I wouldn't buy it in a million years, but from an unbiased point of view I would say that the album is quite good from an older point of view but definitely not from a modern perspective. A great classic but not one for the more modern people amongst us... However it is great for karaoke as everyone knows the words to it whether they are a fan of grease or not!... Read review

...William Orbit's 'Pieces In A Modern Style' is an innovative, pioneering, briiliant album. If you are expecting such pieces as Ferry Corsten's Remix of 'Barber's Adagio For Strings' then you should not buy this album because the music on it bears little resemblance to the popular dance version. However, you should buy it if you have an open minded approach to classical music, because in my opinion that is the genre to which this album belongs. Others would disagree, such as the directors of the classical music chart who for some reason believe that this album does not fit the classical genre. William Orbit has taken several classical pieces by well known composers (such as Beethoven, Satie and Barber) and arranged them in his own, individual modern style. Advantages: 5 Class non-blockbuster films
Disadvantages: Not for the easily pleased!

...I wanted to talk about 5 films that I love that may not appeal to everyone but then thats another reason to love them, in no particular order they are : La Haine - An urban drama set in a modern paris ghetto, detailing a day in the life of 3 young men, this film is fantastic in showing how hopeless modern life can seem and how the people can be destroyed just because of their race or creed. Fight Club - Intense, provocative, visually stunning and truly questions what is modern life all about? Brad Pitt and Ed Norton are amazing, a real modern classic. The Big Blue - Luc Besson stunner, about two men and their love for a gorgeous woman, and the sea, the photography is stunning and the story is just as beautiful. Requiem for a Dream - Drug-addled view of the degeneration of the human spirit. Fantastic visuals, brilliant acting... Read review

...For classic rock and all sorts of Alternative music, the Cathouse is the place you want to go to. Situated in Union street, pretty close to central station and not far from queen street station. The club has two floors the upper floor being the more modern, more extreme music that gets played. Downstairs you have the less extreme music and classic rock songs being played. Entry is reasonable and drinks are not too bad either. Go with an open mind and you will have fun, we always do. Some times bands also play the club, such events are well advertised.... Read review

...This classic en vogue album is a definite must have. I borrowed it from a house mate at uni and really did not want to return it but being the ideal house mate that I am - I did..... Anyway this was amazing as it cluded old favourites such as hold on and never never gonna get it and more modern tunes such as whatever. I would recommend this tune to anyone who likes good R'N'B. The packaging of the CD is great as it is a very classic style. Also it's one of those CDs which can be played over and over again - a classic! What do you think ........... Read review
