Democracy and The Royals
Review of Are monarchy and democracy incompatible? by
Goo_Goo_Frog
Advantages: Good Figure Heads For Positive Tourism
Disadvantages: Expensive
...Throughout history Britain has had a monarch, either a king or queen that headed the country.
The successor of any of these monarchs was decided by blood, the son or daughter of the monarch would take over, if there were more siblings then the eldest male would be the heir.
If the monarch died with no children, then the next of kin usually a brother or sister or uncle would take over.
This was a fine sytem, it worked well, except for a few uprisings of people that wanted to claim the throne it was a good system of running the country.
Although they did actually do little to run the country with various advisors and scolars by their side telling them what the best options were.
The values of the monarch however, were very heavily persuaded by their religion, and it became increasingly important to be the same religion...

An airline to avoid
Review of Monarch Airlines by
tehuti
Advantages: Absolutely none.
Disadvantages: Cramped seating, incompetent staff, poor catering
...If you are buying a package holiday, look carefully at the airline used by the tour company, and if it is Monarch, think again. I had the misfortune to fly to Egypt with Monarch earlier this year. The trip started badly with some problems in the check-in procedure. Soon there were several long queues of people at the Monarch check-in desks, some worrying because the check-in time limit was quickly approaching. No attempt was made to inform us about the situation, or to reassure us that we would not miss our flights.
The aeroplane was extremely cramped. I am of below-average height, but I found it difficult to cope with the extremely limited leg room. Such conditions might be tolerable for a very short flight, but not one of several hours as was the flight to Egypt.
The staff were, to put it frankly, incompetent. It took more than 45...

The monarch is our symbol and saviour...!
Review of Does Britain still need a monarchy? by
zx737
Advantages: limits govt, unifying, earns money and pays tax
Disadvantages: just something to criticise really
...The Monarchy has been the head of state for Britain for thousands of years. However in the past C20 the Monarchy has been criticised; it has been claimed to be pointless and powerless, Prince's have shamed them selves and the family, they are said to live off the taxpayer's money, finally are not of British blood.
The case I'm arguing for is that the monarchy does belong in Britain. So why should the monarchy stay in Britain?
The Republican system problems in brief.
Republican Governments are not restricted by rules of civilised behaviour and cannot be stopped by any higher power, as the US President is Commander-in-chief he can authorise any military action and is not bound by a monarchs ruling. Such an example would be the US Government's massacre of the Branch Davidians.
Judges are appointed and removed by the governing Government...

Monarch Airlines (flying from Luton)
Review of Monarch Airlines by
CatherineGarland
Advantages: Cheap, reliable
Disadvantages: Awful food
...I've just returned from a trip to Gibraltar flying Monarch Airlines from Luton Airport.
Overall Monarch are really good. Flights leave on time, are clean and the air hostesses are really helpful.
On the downside you now have to buy your own food which is £4.00 per person and I can only describe it as awful! We had an early morning flight so breakfast was on the menu.
There were three choices, traditional breakfast which was sausages, beans, potato things, fruit juice, a veggie version which was as above but without meat (!) and the choice of a sandwich and a chunky Kit Kat.
I went for the traditional breakfast and it was really bad. The sausages, beans, potatos were all in the same tray and luke warm.
It took an age to serve us and the air hostesses didn't have any change and had to keep a list of who they owed money to...

Customer is King.
Review of Monarch Airlines by
DavidJWest
Advantages: Customer care
Disadvantages: Small food portions
...I have flown with Monarch several times on the 5 hour flight to Cyprus, initially because they were the cheapest at around £250 for a return flight.
Having flown with them I now choose them not just for their excellent value, but also the quality of service etc.
They have always been excellent time-keepers (I know that this is due to luck at least in part) and the staff are always very courteous, friendly and cheerful.
The planes they use are clean and appear new, which does inspire confidence if you are a nervous passenger and the quality of food is also excellent, although a little on the meagre side - but then isn't all aeroplane food?
One very good point was recently when my partner had been in hospital in Cyprus, she had needed a doctors note to fly home. The check in girl moved us to a seat at the front of the plane so we...

Monarch Airlines - Only If You Have To!
Review of Monarch Airlines by
murky5
Advantages: Part of Package deals, new Aircraft
Disadvantages: Like being aboard a cattle truck
...Having recently returned from a trip to Egypt and having the pleasure? of using Monarch Airlines i thought i would share my observations with you, to perhaps make your trip easier.
Firstly my outward journey was delayed by 21 hours - I realise this can happen to any Airline, although certainly having limited Aircraft available on stand-by did not help the situation. What I did find hard to take was the lack of information given out by the Airline via the groud Handling Agency.
Yes I was put up in a Hotel overnight but there was no sign of any sort of apology. Also handing out £4.00 vouchers for breakfast, at Airport prices, will hardly allow you to overdo it!
Once on the plane it was really like being on a cattle truck. The plane appeared quite new but legroom was minimal to say the least. During the 4 hour 50 minute flight we were...

comfortably sunday-nightish
Review of BBC1 - Monarch of the Glen by
arrietty
Advantages: funny, gentle, good characters
Disadvantages: episodic, bit predictable
...The BBC's sunday night drama Monarch of the Glen has now been running for 4 series and a new one is due this autumn. It can't come too soon for the hundreds of Monarch fans who have fallen in love with this gentle, humorous programme.
Monarch is set in Scotland, at a big house (well in fact more of a castle really!) called Glenbogle. Many of the storylines revolve around the financial difficulties in keeping Glenbogle going which are faced by the young laird, Archie, played by the pretty gorgeous Alastair Mackenzie (his mother is played by Susan Hampshire, who is excellent). However there are always plenty of other plots going on, many of them utterly ridiculous - the most laughable tend to involve Hamish Clark, playing the kilt-wearing, clumsy, kindly Duncan, oh and in the older series the wonderful Richard Briers as Archie...

Good cabin service and reasonable on the ground
Review of Monarch Airlines by
eep362
Advantages: Good entertainment, food, big so able to solve problems.
Disadvantages: Not a mind of information but reasonably helpful
...Monarch Airlines (MON)
I recently travelled with Monarch for the second time from Gatwick to Bodrum (MON3481) on an Airbus A300600 (or something like that). It wasn’t through choice as it was a package but I was fairly pleased.
Check in was fairly good and fast although I was not impressed by the way there were about 6 desks all saying ‘all monarch flights’, I checked the code on the baggage labels and fortunately they did get to the right place. Check in was all in all, reasonable with few hold ups by silly people that do things like forget their passports.
Everything seemed fine, we waited in the lounge, boarded the plane, watched the safety video and were about to take off when suddenly an engine failure. We then taxied back to the stand, waited about 20 mins while they tried to fix the problem but with no luck...

Allocated seats when booking flights
Review of Monarch Airlines by
ukproud
Advantages: You can Prebook Seats when booking Monarch flights
Disadvantages: None
...We made bookings with Monarch Airlines today from Manchester to Gibraltar on their scheduled flights for next Summer through their website.
Really pleased that you can prebook actual seat numbers when making the booking which save s the normal bun fight when travelling on some of the low cost carriers, when you might end up sitting in different parts of the plane.
No extra charge was made for this, you could pay more for extra legroom seats but knowing we had seats together near the front of the plane is great. There was even an option to book exit row seats, so long as travellers were over 16 for those rows.
We flew with them a few months ago and were happy with the service, flights on time and friendly crew. We didn't see at that time that you could prebook the seats....

nice and pleasant
Review of Teesside, England (MME) by
biffa70
Advantages: clean,good disabled facilities
Disadvantages: not many checkin counters
...had need to recently fly out of teeside with monarch airlines on a charter flight to kos.upon arrival at the airport found it to be quite pleasant.the staff were very helpful and surprisingly there were 6 girls working on the general information desk to deal with any problems or queries.the facilities are excellent for such a small airline with clean well maintained tiolets and very good facilities fot the disabled.only drawback i can relate was when we needed the assistnce of one of the monarch airline staff to help us with a disabled friend(but thats no reflection on the airport itself).ive only used teeside once and given the oppertunity in future i shall be using it again....
