Museums are dead take a new art stance
Review of New Art Riot EP - Manic Street Preachers by  adsalamon

Advantages: Early Manics
Disadvantages: Harder to find

...This is technically the Manics first record release before Generation Terrorists. Due to it only being an EP there are only four tracks on it though. The first thing you will notice about this compared to the other manics full length releasesis that the singer James Dean Bradfield sounds totally different. He sounds like he is just trying tio shout the lyrics out and not really sing them as much. The song also sound more punky with more basic guitaring just playing simpler chords. The tracks are called New Art Riot, Strip It Down, Last Exit On Yesterday and Teenage 20/20. The title song is an attack on all things that the manics are against with such things as the Thatcher Government ie " Hospital Closure kills, more than car bombs ever will" and an aging british culture " Vintage aroma and Vintage ideals... THE IMPACT OF TOURISM ON NEW ZEALAND
Review of General: New Zealand by  Oktoberfest

Advantages: Beautiful nature
Disadvantages: Too many people

...as horse riding or tours by helicopter or airplane. Museums like the new Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa, that was opened in 1998 display the culture, art and history of the country. 2.4. Targets of the tourism policy The target of the „New Zealand Tourism Board" is „a sustained commitment to high quality standards" . The country´s image is very „clean" and „green" and its environment is said to be unpolluted. Because of this, there is a strong trend away from mass tourism towards individual high quality tourism. A statement by a professional in tourism, Tony Booth, underlines this trend: „By concentrating on sheer numbers, we weren´t maximising our returns.... For every German tourist we can attract to New Zealand, we can lose two South Koreans and still maintain our tourism earnings." Therefore New Zealand´s major target... Read review

How to enjoy New York on a budget
Review of New York City by  Delicate_Orchid

Advantages: Greatest city in the world, lots to do, great food
Disadvantages: Never want to leave

..., list their price and label it a 'suggested donation'. This means that you DO NOT have to pay the price listed. I personally never had the guts to do it myself, but when I visited the Metropolitan Museum with a friend, she actually paid only 1$ for the two of us and we were let in! Naturally, some would disagree with such a practice, as money paid to the museum goes towards the preservation of art and museums. But if , for example, you are a student on a budget, you may want to just pay a little less. ENTERTAINMENT - WASHINGTON SQUARE PARK - Music and other entertainers So they are not big names that will ever enter the charts, but some of the musicians you can find in New York City are very talented and you can listen to them for free! Once you find yourself in Washington Square Park, you may have to circulate a little... Read review

NEW YORK CITY, IT's a WONDERFUL TOWN!!
Review of New York City by  ciaomane

Advantages: It has so many wonderful sites and sounds.
Disadvantages: Traffic

...much more. I have seen many candles left here in honor of John. I find this place haunting at times. All around Central Park are Museums, in fact the MET, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is right in the park on Fifth Ave. This is one of America's two best Art Museums. The other is in Washington DC. My wife and I have had wine and cheese with some fruit while listening to music in the halls of the MET. It's a wonderful atmosphere. Fifth Ave just had the St Patrick's Parade a couple of days ago. I enjoyed watching all the revelers in their cheap green hats having a good time on the street. New Yorkers know how to have fun. Many many other parades use this rout too. The April Fools Day Parade, Puerto Rican Day Parade, Greek Parade, and more including the Easter Prominade. Getting back to museums, you will also find the Museum... Read review

Brand New or heard it all before...
Review of Deja Entendu - Brand New by  Robeth

Advantages: Cheap for how great it is, well constructed, greart lyrics, diverse.
Disadvantages: 1 song let down. Audiable sounds. Rather long, pretensious song names.

...of their acclaim - ‘Deja Entendu‘. ‘BN’s first individual, full length release - ‘Your Favourite Weapon’ - portrayed the conflicting emotions of the excitement, yet misery of love, in a pop-punk-emo fashion. Although the angst ridden lyrics are clearly present in last years release ‘DE’, the band have matured both lyrically and in how these are carried. Some fans of ‘YFW’, may miss the pop-punk sing-along songs, but despite being shocked by ‘BN’s maturation and progression, they won’t be disappointed. The maturity of ‘DE’ compared to ‘YFW’, is suggested by the post-modern cover art, and also by the title - Deja Entendu. Meaning ‘heard before’ in French, it suggests their outlook on the music-industry, indicating a level of cynicism - made clearer by the band name - ‘BN’. Their album title and interesting, yet long-winded song titles give... Read review

Review of Arts, Theology, And The Church: New Intersections - Kimberly J. Vrudny by  frkurt

Advantages: Great articles, great topic
Disadvantages: None

...and ministers came together to address the theological, spiritual, and practical aspects of the arts in ministry and religion. This deals with issues of theological theory, interpretation, and practices. The arts discussed here are broadly drawn - they include the visual arts, musical arts, storytelling and liturgical arts. Some of these essays draw on issues from historical perspectives, and some are very personal. While each essay stands on its own merit and reads as a complete unit, together the essays complement each other drawing the same issues in different directions. What is the importance of art for religion? Those who attend worship services are familiar with certain kinds of architecture, music (or the lack thereof), vestments (or the lack thereof), and a host of other elements that add in some way (even by the absence of certain... Ambient drum and bass taken to new levels
Review of New Forms - Roni Size/Reprazent by  cash40

Advantages: Original, beautiful, creative, imaginative
Disadvantages: Still a little to hard or a little too soft for extremists

...New Forms is one of the only drum’n’bass albums to make it into mainstream acceptance. Roni has managed to make music that appeals to fans of normal types of dance music without alienating true drum’n’bass fans. This feat cannot be overlooked as the two styles of music, although similar to an extent, are very hard to mix. True drum’n’bass as I would call it is some of the most intense music you will ever hear, with ultra-fierce drums and stomach grinding bass. Attempts to bring this music to the masses has always ended up with watered down pap that is too weak and lame for the drum’n’bass massive, and still not dancey enough for the mainstream that it was intended for. (and no, I can’t think of any better descriptions than dancey!) The hybridisation of drum’n’bass and ‘normal’ music resulted in Ambient drum’n’bass, which... Read review

New Lanark: Pushing the Boundaries
Review of New Lanark (Scotland) by  Guru-On-A-Mountain

Advantages: Hotel and youth hostel on site, fair prices, interesting place.
Disadvantages: Might be a bit boring for kids, wont take you long to see the whole place.

...insisted that children were educated up until at least the age of 10, and he even provided a nursery for younger children so their mothers could return to work. Education was not just dull and colourless, either. He wanted the children to be educated in music, dancing and art as well as reading, writing and maths. He cut working hours and gave breaks. He also established a fund to provide doctors and wages for those too sick to work. He also provided a village store for the inhabitants of the village, and this was what inspired the creators of the Co-Op stores. It's actually quite breathtaking when you think about it, and frightening to consider that New Lanark was neglected for many years and we almost never had the chance to enjoy it. However, it was saved, and is now a World Heritage Village set in beautiful surroundings. A Visitor... Read review

The Shock of the New
Review of The Shock of the New - Robert Hughes by  jouk04

Advantages: A Good introduction to 20th Century Modernism
Disadvantages: Rambles a bit in places

...This has become a seminal book for all art students and is as comprehensive an introduction to modernism in Art you are likely to get as far as covering all the main movements/schools of the 20th century. I thought it would be interesting to review this book because though it was written over 25 years ago to accompany the television series, Robert Hughes recently came back to present a new programme of the tv show to examine more recent work to examine whether the things that made art in the 20th century shocking are still relevant today. I would suggest that this was not so, as we have become a great deal less shockable over the last 25 years than was the case then or even over the last century. In a film which featured interviews with David Hockney, Paula Rego, Jeff Koons and Sean Scully, Robert Hughes made the case... Read review
