New York City
Review of New York City by
gard
Advantages: A lot to see & do, has something to offer for everyone
Disadvantages: Too much to see and do, can be exhausting, expensive hotels
...and I decided to go into Amsterdam to look around. Maybe it was not the best idea because my trusted Canon Powershot S30 was stolen without me even noticing it when we walked through the crowds at the flower market
We flew Continental from Amsterdam to Newark Liberty Airport and from there we went to my sister in Ohio. On July 5th Nikki and I moved on to New York City.
Arriving in New York City
On July 5th we checked in at Columbus airport and got ready to take the flight from Columbus to Newark. Due to safety rules you have to leave your luggage unlocked now in case they need to inspect it.
The flight to Newark only took 1 ½ hours and soon we had all our luggage with us and ready to go into the city. It seems like there are various ways to get to the city. We went for the cheaper alternative and took the Airlink...

NEW YORK- LOVE IT OR LOATH IT?
Review of New York City by
NATI
Advantages: Cheap shopping, culture, fun!
Disadvantages: Can be stressful!
...they’ll upgrade you to business class, or failing that, the fire exit seats give you more space. There’s nobody in front of you so you can stretch your legs out to your heart’s content.
Once you’ve got through the flight, the next challenge is getting from the airport to your accommodation. I flew into Newark airport, which is in New Jersey. The easiest and cheapest way to get to your accommodation is to hop onto the airport shuttle bus to Manhattan. This costs about $12 for a return ticket, and it takes about 45 minutes to get to Manhattan. I would then recommend flagging down a yellow New York cab to take you the rest of the way to your destination. The drivers are trained to know where they’re going, so you just have to give them the address of your hotel and they’ll take you. It cost me about $20 dollars to Brooklyn, so its not too...

New York, New York
Review of New York City by
electricfrog5
Advantages: 24 hour buzz
Disadvantages: Expensive
...I went to New York for three days as part of a longer trip around the States recently. It was my first visit, and I want to share with you what a great place it is.
I flew American Airlines into JFK airport, landing at about 8 pm, knowing that I had at least an hours journey on the subway to where I was staying. This was a bit scary, as I was travelling alone. You hear plenty of horroh stories about the subway, and I have to admit to feeling a bit intimidated as I stood on the platform waiting for the train. When it arrived, however, I felt much more at ease, as there were other people on the train, who were just going about their normal lives. Taking the subway became something I enjoyed during my time in NY. The ratting is kind of reassuring, and it is a great opportunity to people watch! When I travel I like to try and get...

New York, New York!!
Review of New York City by
NewYork2006
Advantages: Fantastic city, great sights and landmarks, shops!
Disadvantages: You may emigrate!!
...enough you can go!'.
However, then when I was 'old enough' I didn't have the money as New York can be quite expensive (if done properly!).
Then, one rainy, cold day, just before Christmas, my boyfriend of almost two years, told me he wanted to go to New York for his 21st birthday (yes he is a few years younger than me!) as he had been on his 18th and loved it. He wanted me to go and told me that he would pay for me (yes, he does have quite a lot of money too!) so we booked to leave on the 18th Feb. I couldn't wait!
The flight from Heathrow was bearable (considering I hate flying!) and we flew with British Airways and I would definitely use them again as they were fantastic.
We landed at JFK Airport in New York and it was absolutely freezing cold! We went the week after that big blizzard that was on the news that stopped flights...

New York, New York.
Review of New York City by
Susie-34668
Advantages: Plenty to do and see.
Disadvantages: Crowds. Expensive.
...It took me 15 years to make it to New York City. Why? you ask. Well Len and I, being English, were concerned about being tourists and the safety issue. Well, we need not have worried.
We were meeting family there. Prior to our flight, we phoned the hotel to see how much transportation to the hotel would be. They suggested a yellow cab, which would cost around $25-$30. Exchange rate $1.83 to the £.
So we get outside of the airport and see the sign for yellow cabs. The gentleman there said to us, this is your cab. He gave us a yellow leaflet with Taxi information. Asked us which hotel, and pointed to the $22-$26 area. Well our cabbie didn't speak English, so we kind of felt like prisioners in the back of the taxi, with the glass panel in front of us. The ride took 45 minutes and with the $4 cost of the toll, came to $28...

Bentley Hotel - New York New York!!!!
Review of Bentley Hotel, New York City by
wendybull
Advantages: Clean, nice rooms - amazing views from roof top balcony
Disadvantages: 24 Hour coffee bar was actually a vending machine!!
...to be, and helpful and the whole check in procedure was quick and easy. The staff are bilingual – although this was not needed in our case – but handy to know if you do not speak English.
**LOCATION AND CONVENIENCE**
Well, The Bentley Hotel is situated on the Upper East Side of New York, on East 62nd Street.
It is 15 miles from JFK airport – (which is where we flew in from)
10 miles from Newark airport
8 miles from La Guardia airport.
Everywhere we went to (and that was a lot of places in 3 days!) seemed easily accessible by cab. This was an experience in itself, the driving, the honking and so on, but the hotel itself is situated very close to Roosevelt Island and the East River. Many of the views from the hotel look out over the East River and this is a fairly unique view for a New York hotel.
It is 7 blocks from Central...

New York New York
Review of New York City by
Sarahb1976
Advantages: Loads to do
Disadvantages: Tall buildings make it very dark everywhere
...Well, where to start. There is so much so say about New York so I’ll start at the beginning. Last September me and a group of friends decided to do a tour of North-East America (Manhattan, Niagara Falls, Toronto then Miami). We booked the holiday ourselves as it worked out sooo much cheaper than through brochures. Our trip was 14 days in total and total price for hotel and flights (flying from Birmingham which is more expensive than Birmingham) was under £1,000. Now, if you look in brochures for just 5 days in New York you are looking at that price. So my first advice is to do it yourself. We found the hotels that we wanted to stay in with a company called Trailfinders (they have a couple of offices around the country but I sorted out my details over the phone). They also organised the flights for us. You tell them roughly when you...

Fab priced hotel in the thick of New York City!
Review of Best Western President Hotel, New York City by
mummy2harry
Advantages: Cheap, right by Times Square, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Rooms may be too small for some fussy travellers!
...When I was booking a holiday for my partner and I to go to New York, I did a lot of research about hotels, locations, sight-seeing spots etc and then tried to find the best one out of a huge list I made. I didn't want to pay a lot for the hotel because I knew we wouldn't be in it much, and when I saw the Best Western name, I thought it would be a good idea to stick with what I know! So I booked 4 nights in this hotel in December 2005, my second trip to the fa | | |
