Japanese luxuary in New York
Review of The Kitano Hotel, New York by wulise

Advantages: Five star, good service, nice resturant, well situated for shopping and sighe seeing as well as for business
Disadvantages: Slow internet in rooms, Expensive but value for money

...I wanted to stay at the Plaza Hotel but for some reason it was fully booked. I wonder why? Oh yes there was that Hollywood Wedding going on! On my last visit to New York (late November 2000), I wished to stay in a hotel in which I would be treated as a person, instead as just another a tourist. (I found this when I stayed in a 2/3 star hotel). I would recommend that if you can afford it, go for atleast a 4/5 star hotel. I was not disappointed, with The Kitano Hotel. The Kitano Hotel is run by the Japanese and well, the service and friendliness of all the staff was excellent. The Hotel is on Park Avenue, about three blocks down from Grand Central Station (Two blocks from 5th Avenue). It is a first class hotel with an award winning chef. There are two resturants, one which caters in Western food, whilst the other resturant is Japanese... Read review

Just across the street from Macy's...
Review of Hotel Pennsylvania, New York City by jo28501

Advantages: Fantastic Location, Price
Disadvantages: Very Basic

...Last year, my sister and I were planning a few days break. New York had always been a dream location of ours so after a long search for decent priced flights (British Airways) the long search for a hotel began. We wanted somewhere that was a hotel (and not a hostel), a good central location close to attractions and transport and a decent room - the hard task was that we only wanted to pay £400 (£200 each) for a 6 nights stay. Given that this is New York City we didn't think we would get all our requests for that price, but then we fell upon the Hotel Pennsylvania. The price was great so we booked straight away (it cost exactly £400 for 2 people for 6 nights in November). Then I started to read shocking reports about the hotel, and really worried about it as the holiday drew closer. After a long flight from the UK, and 2 bus trips... Read review

Teddy Would Be Proud!
Review of The Roosevelt Hotel, New York City by stuartbuckle

Advantages: Clean, Spacious, Glamour
Disadvantages: You should be 'wowing' at the city not the hotel

...the 2nd Hotel she works in nearer the end of the film.) We found the hotel to be in decent walking distance to most of the nearest attractions, afterall that is why you are in New York, a brilliant Hotel is just a bonus! Should walking be a bug bear of yours the doorstaff whistle down a cab for you and seem to be a class above the nearby Hotels in that cabbies listen to them ahead of those accross the road. One concern I did have before going to New York was a safety point of view, I need not have bothered, the streets are so busy well into the night and early in the morning that simply being sensible and sticking to lit areas should see you ok. This hotel is everything we expected and more from New York, traditional in its decor with excellent staff and attitudes. From a monetary point of view I paid top whack as it was Christmas... Hotel Pennsylvania
Review of Hotel Pennsylvania, New York City by ahills

Advantages: Location, Cheap, Comfortable
Disadvantages: Decor, Basic Accommodation

...After reading a number of reviews on a New York forum, I was getting very apprehensive about staying in this hotel. A number of people stated this hotel was dirty, the staff unfriendly and their stay a nightmare with a majority saying to stay well clear. Having just returned from my holiday there, I'd like to balance this out with my experience. Being a 2-star hotel, I wasn't expecting the earth and found myself pleasantly surprised. When you enter the hotel lobby, it shines at you with the marble floors and chandaliers; all very clean and had that bit of wow-factor. Check in was quick and the staff very friendly and chatty. We took the lift up to the 9th floor and when we stepped out, some of the relief I had felt in the lobby disappeared. The decor in the corridors leading to all the rooms was not great - very outdated and not fresh... Read review

Dream location in Manhattan
Review of The Helmsley Park Lane, New York City by Delicate_Orchid

Advantages: Location, cleanliness, friendliness
Disadvantages: Price

...The Helmsley Park Lane is ideally located - in particular for the first time New York tourist who wants to experience the city's charme. Opposite the hotel lies Central Park and to its right the infamous 5th Avenue with Tiffany's, FAO Schwarz and Saks no more than 5 minutes away. Close to the hotel is also a wealth of good restaurants -the Hard Rock Cafe and the Harley Davidson Cafe, as well as some more unique and fancy establishments on 57th Street. The outside decor of the hotel is disappointing compared to the other places on Central Park South. The hotel lacks the large and luxurious entrance that one may expect to be overwhelmed with by a hotel of its class. The standards rooms are superbly clean (with twice daily maid service). If you are looking for a true 5 star experience, however, you may be a little disappointed... Read review

New York City Hotels
Review of The Time, New York City by kenny8

Advantages: Clean, Brilliantly situated, not too expensive for NYC
Disadvantages: Smallish rooms, could find better for the price? pesty cleaners, noisy airconditioner

...The Time Hotel is situated on 49th st, just of Broadway and right near Times Square. It is a 4 star hotel which has a very modern feel to it. It includes a restaurant, but it was quite expensive, so I didn't eat there. The rooms are not the biggest (but then you don't get large rooms in new york!). It includes what you would expect from a 4 star hotel, Cable TV, Air conditioning, safe. We even got the New York Times Newspaper every morning (hanging on our doorhandle outside). The room was very clean, and was cleaned every day while we was out, and they also came round again of an evening (just to see if it needing anymore cleaning), which was a little annoying as we was always preparing to go out again when they knocked. It was definitely a business class hotel, of which were in the "lounge" all the time with their Laptop... Read review

Disney's Hotel New York
Review of Disney's Hotel New York, Marne-la-Vallee by lplliam

Advantages: Location, Rooms, Facilities, Staff, Characters
Disadvantages: None!

...Just got back from a 2 night 3 day stay at the New York and it was great! Hotel is in a excellent location, a 2 minute walk from the Disney Village and only 5 minutes from the Disney Parks. Check in was 3pm but the hotel allowed us to check in at 10:30 am. We stayed in the Gramercey Park part of the hotel, rooms were clean and spacious, with excellent facilities, nice view of the Disney castle from our room, there is a safe in the room free of charge. Breakfast is included and is continental style but also serves bacon, sausages and scrambled egg, I think this is something to do with the hotel being American themed? Staff at the hotel are great, very helpful and polite. The hotel also has an ice rink through the winter which you have to pay for but worth it. Mickey has his kids disco in the hotel reception each evening at 8pm. The hotel... Read review

Confusion and Illusion at Holiday Inn
Review of Holiday Inn Hotel, New York JFK Airport by From_The_Continent

Advantages: cheap at first glance
Disadvantages: not really cheap, overall insufficient product & service quality

..., 5 Stars ~ the lowprice Holiday Inn Express Hotels, 2-3 Stars ~ the Holiday Inn Resorts, upmarket holiday resorts The HI Group is itself part of a larger Group, Bass Hotels, which also includes the brands Inter-Continental and Forum Hotels. I have myself stayed at five of the HI Group's hotels, and have spend a total of around 25 nights there: ~ Holiday Inn Hotel, New York JFK Airport ~ Holiday Inn Hotel, Warsaw ~ Holiday Inn Hotel, Paris CDG Airport ~ Holiday Inn Hotel, Istanbul ~ Holiday Inn Crown Plaza, Istanbul In order to stay within the right category, I will only discuss my experiences with the classic Holiday Inn Hotels - and there the picture is very doom. At first sight, HIs often appear to be the cheapest international business hotels in the city, boasting themselves with five big stars. There is a double flaw... Read review

COSMOPOLITAN BABY!
Review of Cosmopolitan Hotel - Tribeca, New York City by chocoholic

Advantages: Good safe location, great staff, excellent value for money
Disadvantages: Noisy due to subway stop nearby

...So you're off to the big apple and you need a place to stay? Well make sure you do your research to make your stay as perfect as you can. When I look for a hotel in New York City, I want a clean and welcoming place. Not too bothered about swimming pools, and other things associated with 5 star hotels. I want a place that is safe, in a good area, and not too expensive. After all I want to explore New York not the hotel! The hotel is just a place to store my stuff, sleep and shower. If you are after a cheap and clean basic hotel then I have found a gem of a hotel for you! """"""""""""""""""" LOCATION """"""""""""""""""" Located in downtown Tribeca, I loved the location of the Hotel. This hotel is in clean, friendly and quiet neighbourhood. There is a subway stop right outside the hotel. The subway stop houses the red lines 1, 2 and 3... Read review
