...We stayed at the New Yorker April 2006. We found the rooms weren\'t huge but enough space for two and extremely good on price. The staff were all really friendly but not in that overly patronising way that can sometimes happen in the USA. For us, the added bonus' were the Italian on the bottom left of the hotel and more so, the Tick Tock diner on the right of the hotel. The great thing about the diner was that it was open 24hours, ideal for those late breakfasts or even later evening meals when you got on the wrong subway and got lost in Queens! But that's a whole other story. The diner had a 'Hurley' lookalike - Lost star. I'm not sure if he knew it, but he was the friendliest chap I have ever met as well. Advantages: funny, inventive, insightful into other peoples lives at work
Disadvantages: Miranda can wear thin on your nerves after a while

...The thing that amazes me is that America - not just smart New Yorkers - took this series to its heart and made it their no.1. Over here, BBC2 treat it like an embarassing smelly old uncle Just bring it out every so often and put it in a quiet corner where no one will notice. Am I the only one who thinks it probably the greatest comedy ever on TV. That's some statement - but I don't believe the characterisations and writing can be beaten. And all without any of the characters being in any way loveable. Let's face it - they're horrible people. So why is George my hero!! BBC2 is still several series behind a series that finished a couple of years ago. Come on!... Read review

...Fantastic. Competely blew me away. Stayed with friends in uptown Manhattan and the shopping, nightlife and sheer diversity of this city is incredible. Take all your savings and an extra suitcase! Don't be afraid to travel around on your own - for those with a bad sense of direction it is almost impossible to get lost (except maybe in Bloomingdales!) The New Yorkers were friendly, chatty and very happy to offer an alien to their city advice, when encountering one in their local bagel store. I naively ignored the advice I had received from them and those back home about the horrors of the NY subway and found that in comparison to London they were much cleaner and felt safer. I digress - a little story. On my last night I had taken down the wrong address to a restaurant were I was supposed to meet a friend. So I stopped to ask... Read review

Advantages: Excellent location and well priced for Manhattan Island
Disadvantages: Noisy renovations currently and a bit tired in places, but clean

...The New Yorker is in an excellent midtown location with the subway (lines A, C & E) literally steps outside. Being on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street this meant good access to Macy's, Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and the Manhattan Mall. There was another subway station one block along 34th Steet which connected to lots of other subway lines. The hotel itself is a bit rundown. It is nothing major in my opinion and you can see the grandeur the hotel used to have - for example there are some extremely impressive chandeliers in the lobby area. It is all in an Art Deco style which I love but is of course subjective! There are renovations underway at this hotel to "restore it to its former glory". The drawings of "how it will look" appear very impressive. No doubt the increase in prices when it's complete... Read review

Advantages: Well written, good acting, great set design - and funny!

...When I first started watching Friends, it was more by luck than judgement. I was bored, and flicking through the TV guide, I came across an American sitcom about six twentysomething New Yorkers. I thought I'd have a look to see what it was like, and that was it - I was hooked! I now have all the videos up to and including series 5, and will soon be collecting series 6. Friends may be over the top at times, or depressing at others, but it's the one program that always makes me laugh. The range of emotions I go through when watching Friends is incredible - who didn't wipe away a tear when Ross and Rachel broke up - and were they REALLY on a break? I gasped when Ross said Rachel's name at the altar, and when they emerged from the chapel as husband and wife. I'd definitely recommend Friends to anyone who hasn't seen it, and believe... ...Any fan of the 'B' movies will appreciate 'Q' for what it is. Do not watch this movie thinking it is going to be a high budget hollywood blockbuster of a monster movie. The ancient Aztec god Quetzacoatl, a giant flying serpent-bird, is reincarnated by a Manhattan cult and decapitates New Yorkers from its nest atop the Chrysler Building. As detectives David Carradine and Richard Roundtree try to make sense of the myth, petty crook Michael Moriarty holds the Big Apple to ransom in exchange for Q's hiding place. Part wonderfully entertaining cop thriller, part old-fashioned monster movie, Much of the acting is hammy despite a pretty good cast including Richard Rowndtree, David Carradine and Michael Moriarty. The effects are obviously low budget and the script is in places diabolical yet somehow this film is a classic Monster pic... Read review

...at was the new yorker on fifth avenue a terrific location as all the main sights were walking distance away.The breakfast the next morning was a eye opener! For about 8 dollars i got 2 LARGE pancakes,1 LARGE bluberry muffin,HUGE amounts of coffee, A GENEROUS dose of fruit.I think what im trying to emphasis here is that new yorkers or americans in general really like to get full value for there food!The heavy breakfast meant that i really didnt need to each much else for rest of the day. There were many highlights of visiting new york.Going at night time to top of the Empire state building was fantastic.The lights glistening of the massive sky scrapers were sight to behold.The view stretching out was awe inspiring.Central park with its sprawling acres consiting of trees,parkland and joggers lane was terrific.It makes the parks in london look second...
