Enchanting Switzerland
Review of General: Switzerland by  ananya123

Advantages: A haven of scenic beauty
Disadvantages: nothing worth mentioning though language can be problem for english speaking tourists.

...destination.You can easily plan your journey with the help of these small leaflets. Geneva is no tourist paradise: Tourists expect a lot here in the international capital of Switzerland, but Geneva doesn't match to those expectations. Our last day was reserved for Geneva. We reached there around 4 p.m. Geneva is the costliest city in Switzerland. We got on a ride on city train, similar to the one at Lucerne but were fooled. The train only circled round and round in the botanical garden, never allowing us any glimpse of the city. There are private bus tours which will take you to the offices of a horde of international organizations.but Other than the Saturday flea market in Plain de Plainpalais where you can hunt for that rare music record there is nothing to do in this small city. The United Nations building that neighbors other international... Read review

Take a step off the tourist trail in Switzerland
Review of Fribourg, Switzerland by  historywitch

Advantages: Beautiful medieval city, relatively cheap, lots to do, excellent transport links
Disadvantages: none

...and plain chocolates. It is open every weekday. ***Eating Out*** Switzerland is a nation of smokers and people smoke everywhere, but especially in bars and restaurants. There is only one completely smoke free restaurant in Fribourg and it is part of a shopping centre outside of town. You can pick up the number 2 bus from the station and get off at the Belle-Croix stop and enter the shopping centre opposite. Manora is open everyday until late and is an acceptable self service restaurant, vastly superior in quality to its UK counterparts. As I have a young daughter this is the only place we tend to eat out, because the levels of smoke can be quite intolerable in other places The town itself is full of little cafes with seating outside, all of which serve food and drinks which are cheap and edible. The Café Rendevous at the bottom... Read review

Switzerland at its best - the Berner Oberland
Review of General: Switzerland by  Marechal_Grouchy

Advantages: the best scenery in the world
Disadvantages: among the most expensive viewpoints in the world, if not physically fit for prolonged hikes

...Definitely the best stop on my recently completed European tour, the Berner Oberland region can probably be labeled among the best that Switzerland has to offer. Having lived in the country for some nine years, I reserve the right to fully justify this (seemingly rash) elevation of the region to among Switzerland’s finest holiday destinations. We had originally planned to visit Interlaken, 1.5 hours from Bern by train. However, Interlaken is famous for its adventure activities, and was thus packed with tourists on the day we arrived there, July 12, 2001. Our desire for a more isolated destination, after having toured principal cities in France, Spain, and Italy, brought us instead to Lauterbrunnen, smaller and quieter than Interlaken, and only 20 minutes away by train. Another factor in Lauterbrunnen’s favor was its... Read review

Supreme Switzerland!
Review of General: Switzerland by  tallyrand8

Advantages: stunning
Disadvantages: pricey

...Switzerland is the ultimate holiday destination in Europe for those who want to see stunning scenery, wildlife and experience a unique culture. Switzerland is a great place for visitors for many reasons. For me, the ultra-efficient transport system allows accessibility to anywhere in the country. Transfers to resort are by train rather than coach as the system is so reliable and efficient. Zurich and Geneva both have train stations in there airports and English speaking assistance is always available. I've visited Switzerland on three separate occassions - Lake Maggiore/Zermatt, Interlaken and Saas Fee. I've also visited a number of places in each region, made accessible by the trains. I'll try and give some tips about each area and the best places to go... MAGGIORE On this holiday, we were staying in Italy but went... Read review

Switzerland - my former home
Review of General: Switzerland by  Shanon

Advantages: Beautiful country
Disadvantages: Quite expensive and very cold in winter

...The last eighteen years Switzerland was my home, so I should be an expert on this theme. Let’s see what I can tell you about this beautiful country. Weather: Spring/Summer: Switzerland is a few degrees Centigrade cooler than England, except the region next to Italy – Tessin. In all other counties it is between 12 and 24 degrees during this seasons, in Tessin it is between 14 and 28 degrees. Autumn/Winter: This seasons are quite cool, especially in the skiing-regions (Davos, Arosa, Verbier, Nendaz are some of the biggest – and dearest). Temperatures vary from minus 10 up to 10 degrees Centigrade. Languages: Switzerland may be very small, but it has four (!) official languages. So it should be no problem to speak English to everyone, as well as German and French. The fourth language is dying, so you want really find people... Read review

Hands off, Grandma! Switzerland is mine!
Review of Kuoni by  tigswade

Advantages: Great value, great quality - package includes a lot
Disadvantages: Don't go to Arosa for the nightlife

...basic, selling rosti and bratwurste. I found it was a good idea to aim to get to these huts at around 2pm, and have a late lunch, as they did become crowded earlier on. It was also a good idea to pick up some picnic stuff from the village Co-op (more swiss chocolate) as I discovered one of the huts on the map was not actually open in the summer. The walking trails were really clearly signposted with the characteristic yellow signs used for hiking trails all over Switzerland. Again, these tell you how many minutes/hours it should take you to get to the destination. As you ascend and the tracks become rougher these become boulders with red and white stripes. If you don't have the right footwear this is where you should turn around. If you encounter a blue sign you should not advance at all without an experienced mountain guide. It... Read review

So much for this being a FINAL Destination!!!
Review of Final Destination 3 DVD by  ultrafrosty

Advantages: Entertaining enough if somewhat no-brainer horror fare...
Disadvantages: Not as fresh as the first movie, slightly iffy script...

...seating arrangements). The disruption leads to a fight which leads to some people getting thrown off the ride while a few others get off of their own accord - in a very similar way to the first 'Final Destination'. As the group is being led away from the ride, the tracks collapse and the ride de-rails - just as Wendy foresaw. There are probably no surprises for guessing that Wendy and her fellow survivors are not as lucky as they might at first seem. As in the previous two instalments, death comes after the survivors as they have temporarily thrown a spanner in the works of death's design. As with it's predecessors, 'Final Destination 3' finds some pretty gruesome and inventive ways to kill off the survivors. Some of them are so horrific that some may watch bits of this film through their fingers... Read review

Lausanne - The Olympic Capital
Review of Lausanne (Switzerland) by  gaz_161

Advantages: Great sports, great shops, breathtaking views, boat ride to Evian, calm and relaxed atmosphere
Disadvantages: Expensive trains, doesn't really cater for some food allergies such as coeliac

...As a keen traveller, Switzerland seemed a very appealing destination for myself but i didn't know how good it actually was until I arrived. I stayed a short drive from Lausanne which is located North of Lake Geneva (or Lac Leman as it is named by the Swiss). The nearest airport is Geneva, and Lausanne can easily be reached from here. Lausanne is a very beautiful city with some of the most breathtaking views over the mountains that you will ever behold. The first thing that hit me as I walked into Lausanne's centre was the Olympic Museum. If you are interested in sports, Lausanne is therefore the place to go. This Olympic Museum holds some of the most interesting and impressive Olympic memoribilia in the world. It is also the home to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and a number of other sporting federations... Read review

Final Destination? I Hope So.
Review of Final Destination 3 DVD by  RazzaLazza

Advantages: Good CGI, Plenty of gore
Disadvantages: No storyline, Bad acting, No sense of narrative progression

...sat in a room talking about death. For me, this method of making this feature more entertaining didn't really work as it is dull and has nothing to do with the film other than that people die in this film and the film is boring, and this is a feature about death and guess what - it's also boring. --Kill Shot: The Making of 'Final Destination 3'-- From watching the making of this film it is clear that a lot of time and effort has gone into this film as regards to the make up etc., however it can also be seen that other than that not a lot was done. In this feature, many of the people say that 'People come to see the Final Destination films to see the deaths' and although this may be true, they didn't have to make a film where the deaths were the only things that they put any sort of time and effort into. It is clear... Read review
