The Palace In Picadilly
Review of Regent Palace Hotel, London by
frankplummer
Advantages: Big, Centered, Somewhat Cheap
Disadvantages: Not The best Rooms In The World
.... Payphones are there too, in the reception.
However, the staff in the Regent Palace aren't the best in the World either. A lot of them are foreign, and don't get me wrong, they do their job as well as the next person, but their accents are a bit hard to understand, but otherwise, they are a friendly bunch.
The building is situated quite remotely, and can be hard to find if you don't know the area, but being less than 5 minutes from the Picadilly-line tube station, it's not really a bother.
Overall, the Regent Palace is pretty good, cheap, ideally-located hotel in the centre of London and for the price, they're not bad either....

Take a flight on the Wheel!
Review of London Eye, London by
cazza26
Advantages: Easily reached by public transport, great value for money, excellent sights of London
Disadvantages: Big queues in peak seasons
...My husband and I went to London for the weekend and we decided to try out one of the new millenium attractions- The London Eye.
Apparently we were very lucky to obtain tickets at such short notice, usually they are sold out 2 to 3 days ahead or longer , especially now school holidays are in full swing! We booked our tickets via the hotel concierge.
The following day we set off on our venture! It took us approx 25 minutes from leaving the hotel (Oxford Street) to reach the attraction, and was a very easy journey via underground trains.
We collected our pre booked tickets and joined a large queue to board the wheel!
After surprisingly only a 30 minute wait we finally boarded our capsule! (Each capsule holds 15 to 20 people i would guess)
Our ride began! The wheel moves very slowly and i wouldn't have known we were moving at all apart...

Review of Astor´s Quest Hotel, London by
raphmor
Advantages: cheap
Disadvantages: not a palace !
...WAW ! I'm the first writing about the Youth Hotel !
Well, I'm french and I went to London from the 16th to the 26th in order to improve my English. I found the Youth Hotel "Quest Hotel" next to Hyde Park. I had luck to find a room for the night as it is very often full.
You have to give a key deposit of 10£. 80£ a week for a 6-people room
What about the rooms ?
Well, 6 beds with carpet on
the ground (I hate that as it is very dirty ! I know that English people are used to have it but I don't understand why...)
It is not a palace. Beds are not very comfortable. And there are mice ! But sheets are clean... There is a bathroom per room
If you go there, don't look for comfort.
But it is very nice to meet people from all over the world ! Thus, I met spanish, australian, centrafrican, german, japanese people. It is very cosmopolitan...

London in a Caravan
Review of London (England) by
reebokrebel
Advantages: Great for a family break, kids will never be bored! A must experience
Disadvantages: Not many but can be a little expensive
...This year we decide to visit London as a family break and to keep the costs down we thought that we would go in our caravan.
We stopped at the caravan club site near Crystal Palace, the site is excellent and very clean and tidy and suprisingly not that difficult or time consuming to actually get to the city centre.
You can purchase travel cards from the club site I would suggest a family travel card for zones 1-4 this will cover 95% of the sightseeing places in London. If the site doesn't have any then there is a papershop a 5 minute walk away that also sells them.
From the site it is just a few minutes walk to be able to catch the No.3 bus which will take you directly to Oxford Circus (buses run about every 15mins) or as an alternative as we did you can catch this bus to Brixton tube station and then take the underground into London...

Excellent Choice!
Review of Royal Horseguards, London by
richardsonjones
Advantages: Location, Customer Service
Disadvantages: Quoite pricey (but worth it)
...As a regular visitor to London I'm often lucky enough to squeeze in an overnight's stay. Recently, whenever possible, I've tried to ensure that I stay here, as it it perfect for all of my requirements.
Firstly, the hotel is perfectly located - just a few hundred metres from the Embankment underground station on the Bakerloo, Victoria, Circle and District Lines. The hotel is situated directly opposite the London Eye overlooking the Thames, and is within walking distance from the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace etc.
I've stayed in this hotel several times now, and (with just one exception which was quickly remedied) have always received impeccible levels of customer service.
My last stay here was this weekend. My mum and I stayed in an executive twin room on teh 4th floor overlooking the Thames. On previous stays I've had less...

Good location for the price
Review of The Strand Palace Hotel, London by
sensortech2003
Advantages: Location, Breakfast and Room Size
Disadvantages: Large hotel so can get very busy
...What Made Me Choose This Hotel?
We were visiting London to see a couple of West End shows and the Strand Palace is, as the name suggests, right on The Strand. Theatres are like Chinese restaurants in Chinatown on The Strand so we knew that the hotel was in a decent location.
Prices + Booking
There are over 780 rooms in this hotel, so it's pretty large and there always seems to be availability at any time of the year. We booked directly through the hotel website where they often have special online deals. You can also call the hotel direct to make a reservation. Various discount hotel websites also list The Strand Palace so my advice would be to shop around for the lowest price. Like other major cities, London hotel prices are extortionate, but I would class The Strand Palace as a fair-priced hotel, considering its location. You can...

The Strand Palace Hotel
Review of The Strand Palace Hotel, London by
kate44
Advantages: Central location, clean
Disadvantages: Food, rooms
...We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too.
Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly.
My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern.
I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower.
The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close.
The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated...

THE CITY WITHOUT WALLS
Review of London in general by
linda01865
Advantages: PLENTY TO DO
Disadvantages: CAN BE EXPENSIVE
...of this century, London expanded greatly. What was once open field ,market gardens or commons, with maybe the odd farmhouse or barn soon became overwhelmed with houses. These were the suburbs of london. A comercialised London had begun a city that has no walls..
So what can I tell you about London now?
Well London is a very busy place. The transport system is good but hetic with many buses, trains, coaches and river trips, in and out of the area.Black taxi cabs are plenty but a bit expensive. There are museums and art galleries a famous one being madame Tussaud's, another the national gallery. There are many many more.
Lots of places of interest: Covent Gardens,Kew,Buckingham palace,Tower of London. All are easy to find and get too. A good tourist attraction could be the changing of the guards.London even has a Zoo and sports so there are many things...

London in Bits and Bobs
Review of London (England) by
BawBaw
Advantages: One of the world's great cosmopolitan centers
Disadvantages: So much city . . . so little time
...of Londinium's Roman Wall to the Tower of London to the Houses of Parliament. For those seeking art and culture, there are galleries and museums galore--not to mention one of the world's most famous and thriving theater districts. For those who love parks, there are big parks, small parks, parks with fountains and ponds and the art of the footpath with its turnings--not to mention parks with black swans and benches for people watching. For those interested in the conviviality of the locals, there are pubs and restaurants to suit every taste and pocketbook. And for those on a quest for royalty, there are palaces, pageantry, and (if one is very patient and very lucky) the fleeting glimpse of a royal personage.
For Himself and Yours Truly, there are bits and bobs of all these attractions, plus bookshops on Charing Cross Road, the taste of pastries...
