Portrait of Paphos
Review of Paphos (Cyprus) by
Bollinger28
Advantages: Charming combination of the old and the new give this resort something for everyone.
Disadvantages: Heat oppressive at height of summer. Some areas rather loud and built up
...Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean situated to the extreme North East of this sea. Cyprus can be described as the meeting point of three continents - Europe, Asia and Africa, and this is certainly reflected in the Cypriot heritage of architecture, food and people. This was my third visit to Cyprus, the previous two stays having both been in Larnaca. This time we decided we'd like to experience more of the south-west of the island, so we opted for a fortnight in Paphos.
~*~ GETTING THERE AND GETTING AROUND ~*~
Flights from the UK to Paphos International Airport take around 4½ to 5 hours. Direct flights to Paphos are widely available with charter flights from both regional and national airports. Tour operators such as Thomson, First Choice and Monarch fly regularly to Paphos. There are also scheduled...

Luca/ Cyprotel Laura Beach Paphos - Cyprus
Review of Laura Beach Hotel - Paphos (Cyprus) by
jomarannetyn
Advantages: Toasties are great
Disadvantages: Where do i start??
...on the same side takes you to Coral bay, the one across the road takes you to Paphos, it is 80p (cyp) when you get on the bus no matter how many stops you stay on for which is fantastic and a cheap way to get around.
We did not hire a car but they do drive on the same side of the road as us just in case you were thinking of hiring one.
Conclusion
----------------
Despite my little whines I did have a lovely week in Cyprus I honestly didn't see a single cloud all week and the temperature was 45+ C everyday, the food was edible and I certainly didn't starve on all those toasties.
This hotel is not a 4* in any way, I am well traveled both here and abroad and I would give this a 2* if that.
The bar staff at the pool bar were pleasant but the rest of the staff I found rude and unhelpful.
My parents came over while we were still...

Cyprus, Paphos July 2005
Review of Paphos (Cyprus) by
the_hendon_lad
Advantages: So hot you could fry an egg on your head
Disadvantages: tacky touristy gifts, exchange rate
...This was to be our second holiday abroad this year and for two weeks my family and I were looking forward to all the good things we had heard about this Island and it's people. There were six in our party, my wife and (nearly) three year old daughter, my parents in law and my wife's neice(aged 12)
We had all heard such good things about this Island, especially the warm and hospitable atmosphere created by the locals; so many people had recommended Cyprus, we just had to see for ourselves. Our brochure promised us many treats including a varied cuisine, lively nightlife and a children's club. Sadly the brochure was, in our opinion, exaggerating.
We arrived mid afternoon at Paphos airport and were all pleased with the gorgeous weather, the sun was shining and it seemed like the perfect start to a promising fortnight. The trip...

Pafian Sun Holiday Village, Paphos, Cyprus
Review of Paphos (Cyprus) by
toyah999
Advantages: See review
Disadvantages: See review
...After coming back from one of the worst holidays i have ever had in Cyprus, my mind is zooming back to a wonderful holiday i had in Cyprus 3 years ago.
Pafian Sun Holiday Village in Paphos was an absolute delight.
The rooms were clean and modern (consisting of a double bedroom and a sleeping area in the living area for one person), the lounge area was light, airy and comfortable and the entertainment was varied. The pool area was amazing. As you swam in the pool it actually looked out to the sea, heaven. The staff were warm, friendly and helpful.
Best of all was the "all inclusive" restaurant. The choice was overwhelming. The breakfast menu had everything you could imagine and every night there was a theme, ie. chinese, mexican english etc. There was also an "al a carte restaurant which was seperate from the the main...

Perfect Paphos
Review of Paphos (Cyprus) by
heatherrr13
Advantages: Friendly people, cheap food, great atmosphere, hot!
Disadvantages: perhaps too touristy, and will become more so in time
...to Paphos exactly on time. A taxi had been arranged to take us to an apartment, and we shared this with another guy who was going to the same apartment block. The apartment we were staying in was in a block called Tala Hills, up in Tala. It was about a 20 minute ride from the airport in the taxi (which looked like a hearse all in black with 3 doors on each side!) and cost us £C30 for the three of us.
Some Cyprus Facts!!
In Cyprus they drive on the same side of the road as in the UK. Today, only four ‘European’ countries drive on the left; Britain, Ireland, Cyprus and Malta, and therefore have no land borders with countries that drive on the right.
The currency is Cyprus is the Cypriot Pound and Cents. One English Pound is roughly 80 Cypriot Cents, which means that it’s sometimes hard to work out how much things cost. I took £150 over...

I Left My Heart In Paphos
Review of Paphos (Cyprus) by
Weez
Advantages: Immaculate, friendly and cheap!!
Disadvantages: At some point you have to fly home!!
...It is no wonder whatsoever that Cyprus is the 'island of Aphrodite', the Goddess of Love, as I certainly left *my* heart behind.
I stayed in Paphos, in the residential part, and met many of the local people who are all so friendly and can't seem to do enough for you. Paphos is split into two parts, Old Paphos and New Paphos. New Paphos is where all the new nightclubs and bars seem to be opening up for the younger holidaymakers (like myself), however, I prefer a bit of culture in my holidays and so stayed in the old town.
Old Paphos is absolutely beautiful and verges on being described as 'immaculate.' Old Paphos boasts everything the perfect holiday should. There is a main road that runs through the town called 'Tomb of the Kings Road.' This is THE road to be on in the evening. It has many beautiful restaurants and bars with lots...

Paphos - a week isn't long enough
Review of Paphos (Cyprus) by
rustifer
Advantages: Great bars and restaurants, cheap excursions and friendly people
Disadvantages: None
...This was our second visit to Cyprus. The first time was 3 years ago and that time we stayed in the beautiful resort of Protaras. While we were there we visited Paphos for the day and we decided that the next time we came to Cyprus we would give Paphos a go.
We booked our holiday with Libra/Priceright Holidays. We'd never travelled with them before but I wouldn't hesitate to book with them again. We stayed in the Palepaphos Apartments in the Kato district which is at the east side of the resort. The apartments were right in the heart of possibly the liveliest part of Paphos and we were surrounded by many bars, restaurants and discos. Our apartment was really clean, well decorated and spacious. My only complaint would be that the bedroom of the apartment had net curtains which meant that we were woken up every morning at around 5ish...

Paphos and Tala
Review of Paphos (Cyprus) by
marino49
Advantages: The Cypriot people, warm and sunny, many things to do and see
Disadvantages: None
...in the Winter months ( December through March) so also make sure that the accomodation has some type of heating. Two years ago we visited at the end of February and although the days were sunny and warm, when the sun went dowwn it got quite chilly. The apartment we rented had dual cooling/heating units so we were fine.
The views from Tala are stunning as you look down to the Med and along the Paphos coast. Because of the elevation, make sure that any apartment or other accomodation you rent has a large verandah and unobstructed views so that you can enjoy the vista and the sea breezes. The apartment, www. cyprusyourvacationhome.com
The village square has some decent restaurants and taverna's and two small shops.
You do need a car to experience the Paphos region and Cyprus at its best.
There is a local bus service (ALEPA, Tel # 26...

Paphos for all season Holidays.
Review of Paphos (Cyprus) by
elinor.z
Advantages: It is very friendly, drive on the Left hand side, and mostly speak English
Disadvantages: You can't lay on the beaches in the winter, and the evenings are cold.
...I have just returned home after a couple of weeks in Paphos.
This is my seventh visit to Paphos over 3 years. This time it was very different. Being my first visit since Cyprus changed over to Euros in Jan 2008, I was amazed to notice the changes that had already been made.
The Harbour had changed almost beyond recognition. For those of you who have already visited this area, you are in for a shock of delight.
The harbour sea front has now gone pedestrian. Gone the noisy buses, the taxis parked all along the sea front. the shabby little shops have now been replaced with smart boutiques and gift shops.
Restaurants are modern clean and inviting. It was almost finished when I returned and a few more weeks will see the completion.
The traffic is now diverted through the shop, by Debenhams and the Supermarket, the main...

Paphos in Spring

Disadvantages: Not a beach resort.
