Beside this you can also select from a map, nearness to an address or place of interest or on an itinerary. My selection of Paris presented me a map of Paris where I could click north, south, east or west for the hotels in each quarter. Clicking on east presented eleven hotels, from which we chose, for no particular reason other than that it offered parking, the Ibis Paris Bastille Faubourg St Antoine on Rue Trousseau. This is the 11th district, the famous Marais district of Paris and, as you will gather from the name, not far from La Place de la Bastille. Disadvantages: Eating out can be expensive, everyone else is there too (everyone loves Paris)

...the real action only takes place at 2 pm and 6 pm. We stood next to an American family and they seemed to be quite disappointed when nothing much happened when the clock struck 1 pm. Back to our walk…we continued to walk from the Les Halles area towards Place de la bastille and this part of the city is called Marais. The streets are narrow and it seems very quiet at least if you are coming from the Les Halles area. I think this is Paris' jewish quarter - some good falafel shops too. On the way we passed by Musée Picasso, maison de Victor Hugo but we only stopped at place des Vosges which was Paris very first square built in 1609. This used to be the home for the aristocracy but today it is just a nice symmetrical square where people enjoyed the spring sun, relaxed on benches while the kids where playing in the sand box or playing football... On 14 July - the French National Day (referred to as Bastille Day everywhere except in France) - a military parade down the Champs Elysées begins here. For important occasions of state, and national holidays, a huge French tricolour is unfurled and hung from the vaulted ceiling inside of the Arch. La basilique du Sacré-coeur Church built by the national will following the defeat in the Franco-Prussian war of 1870.The basilica was consecrated in 1919. Architect: Abadie (1875-1912) This church is located in the neibourghood of Montmatre; one of the hills on with was the villages surrounding Paris. I rarely go to this part of Paris as there are way too much tourists in here moreover that I really dislike... Read review

We were altogether a group of 16 students and 3 teachers. For us students the trip turned out really cheap as we paid only £50 per person (this included the Eurostar return tickets, a 3 day Metro ticket, and hotel accommodation). The real cost would have amounted to £169 but we got subsidies from the government. We stayed at the 2 star hotel "Les Relais de Paris Lyon Bastille", situated at less than a 3 minutes walk to the nearest Metro station and 2 stops away from "Le Bastille". The surroundings of the hotel were really quite charming and gave it a local feeling of a typical Parisian... Read review

...Méditerrannée (Club Med). ~ Musée Picasso ~ This museum near the Bastille contains many paintings and scultures of Picasso, the famous post-impressionist artist. Although he was in fact Spanish, he lived most of his life in Paris, and this museum gives a good impression of his works. It is not a huge museum, and certainly not as popular as the Louvre or Orsay, but if you are interested in Picasso it is certainly worth a trip. I should say at this point that there are other artist-specific museums in Paris, which I have not visited, such as the Dali Museum and the Rodin Museum. ~ Centre Georges Pompidou ~ Built by the prime minister Georges Pompidou in the 60s, intended to promote art and culture, this large building has very interesting architecture.
