...If want to escape from the stresses and strains of modern life, you will find a haven of peace, tranquillity and beauty in Milton Keynes at the Peace Pagoda on Willen Lake (north shore). To appreciate the view, you should leave your car in the north carpark and then take the steps up to the top of the hill. The climb up is somewhat challenging to the uninitiated, but there is excellent wheelchair access too, via a series of sloping paths. There is a bench at the top for those wishing to catch their breath! At the top of the hill, take the path to the left - this leads round to the Pagoda. The Peace Pagoda is an elegant white structure, adorned around its centre with delicate, intricate and stunning gold carvings of buddhas, religious icons and scenes from ancient life. It was produced by BBC Northern Ireland and jokes about the political Parties, Paramilitary groups and the secterian Divide in Northern Ireland! The programme is written and preformed by a Northern Ireland comedy troupe, The Hole in the Wall Gang! Advantages: Appealing to adults as well as children, beautifully illustrated
Disadvantages: There are only four books in the series at present

...I first came across 'Five Minutes Peace' when my mum bought the book for my son last year. At the time he was only two years old, and far too busy to sit still for more than two minutes, and so the book sat on the bookshelf in his room for nearly a year. When my son reached the age of three, he suddenly became interested in books, and so 'Five Minutes Peace' had its first trip off the bookshelf. What first struck me about the book were the wonderful illustrations,the more you look at the pictures the more you see, there is great attention to detail. As for the story itself, I'm sure it will ring bells for Mothers everywhere. The story centers around Mrs Large, and her efforts at trying to get 5 minutes to herself when she has a house full of children. Washington gave lectures, right here at BAM a stage and historical site that has been active and in use since the 1800’s [BAM was built in 1859 and opened in 1861. ...Can you imagine what it is like in my house at times. Lots of children all vying for my attention. This is quite nice at times but there are times when all I want is 5 minutes peace. Where do I go for that peace? I like to go to the bath. Guess what I do not get the peace in there they all have something to say to me. At least they do not get in my bath that would be the last straw! Jill Murphy has capured this aspect of my family life down to the minutest detail in her book Five Minutes Peace. In this book the mother is a rather large elephant called Mrs Large. I may need to loose a bit of weight but I am not that large. She has 3 young children and all they want to do is keep her bust and like all mums it gets too much for her. I have 4 children but they are probably not as demanding. ...Not being an anorak Sci-Fi viewer, I feel I have an unbiased opinion. The first generation of Star Trek was good, with most of the episodes, except a few poor attempts, we exciting. The next generation star trek, deep space nine, Voyager and other modern sci-fi's lack the exciting days of the first generation Star Trek. Cardasion Peace treaty's and politics ruin the new Star Trek, with many episodes based upon Captain Pickard and the Peace Treaty or Star Trek exploring more territory and finding a peaceful, boring race. Sorry, but the producers must try harder as the storyline is abysmal. Gene Roddenberry has really lost her touch. However, some new episodes can be fantastic but sadly, those episodes are in a big minority.... Read review

...If you need some where nice and peaceful to go and think things through then this has to be the best place in Dublin to go. This beautiful garden is set just off one of Dublin’s busiest main roads but this does not take away from the sense of emotion you feel while visiting it. The garden is well maintained and looked after. There is some amazing pieces of stone work also visible within this garden. I personally would recommend a visit here for all of us who are deep thinkers and need some time out on our own. It is a beautiful walk around this garden if nothing else.... Read review
