Perth Mint: The Big Gold Nugget of Australia
Review of Perth Mint, Perth by  becky_tredget

Advantages: See the Biggest Gold Bars and Coins in the Southern Hemisphere!
Disadvantages: None. Unless You Dont Like Gold.

...On our big trip around Oz my partner and I visited Perth first (mainly because his family live here) and I begged him to take me to see the Perth Mint. After six weeks of seeing everything else, I managed to get him to take me. I was so excited being a girl that adores gold, old and historical things and read up on the whole experience in my lonely guide planet book (please see my other review on this item). Perth Mint is one of the biggest and oldest attractions that the small city of Perth Australia has to offer. It originally dispersed the Aussie Dollar currency for the whole of Australia when it was originally founded back in the 1800s by the English Government. Today the building is used as a tourist attraction and creates "novelty" coins (i.e. historical anniversaries and Olympics). On entering the grounds of the Mint you can... Read review

The world's remotest city - Perth
Review of Perth (Australia) by  glossyflower

Advantages: Attractive place, probably nice for retirement. Good for backpackers.
Disadvantages: Not much to see, don't go in the winter.

...I had always wanted to visit Australia, and especially since I read a book by Lesley Pearce called Trust Me, it finally nailed it for me. It wasn't an 'if' I go, it was 'when' I go to Australia. We booked round the world flight tickets, and landed in Perth on May 10th 2004. I had booked a room for the three of us online (which was the cheapest we could find), at the Perth Ambassador Hotel on Adelaide Terrace. When we first arrived in Australia, we were all a bit down at having to leave Hong Kong, and were really tired from the travelling. We checked in at the hotel after taking a taxi, the receptionist said they only had a booking for 2 people to share a single room, I showed them my booking receipt, a little annoyed, and they prepared another room for us, which was huge and had 3 double beds! We ordered room service... Read review

Perth : Western Promise
Review of Perth (Australia) by  djufo

Advantages: good weather, good beaches, good facilties, good, good, good!!!
Disadvantages: Absolutely none

...Perth in the far bottom left of Australia is approx. 1500 miles away from any other town or city, but when youre there you would never know it. It is reletively small compared to the giant Sydney but it has a quaintness that endures. Perth has one of the most "picturesque" city centres ive been to. The river Swan cuts throught the centre of Perth and standing on the hill lookin over the estury at Kings Park you really get a breath taking view of the river winding its way through with Perths sky scrapers as the backdrop. Ive been there twice and to be honest plan to go again. I fact the last time i was there i very nearly didnt come back. The people of Perth seem to not have a care in the world.I once asked someone if they were going to work and was answered ..."well i might go in a bit later...i dont know yet!!!". i went to Perths... The REAL Australia
Review of Perth (Australia) by  mattybaldy

Advantages: Beautiful City within a remote and beautiful state.
Disadvantages: Long plane journey, but worth it... eventually!

...Before you consider setting off for Perth from anywhere in the UK, there is one fact you should take on board... It is a VERY long way from home! No amount of in flight entertainment can take the edge off of what is a very arduous journey. After around 12 hours of the 19 hour flight, I began to lose the will to live. However, once the magnificent city skyline came into view and the sun shone in through the tiny windows of the plane, it suddenly felt worth it. Once on the ground and suitably refreshed after a good night's sleep, I was ready to see what Perth and Western Australia had to offer. So what does it have to offer? Perth offers just about eveything you could want from a holiday or life in general. It was recently voted one of the top 10 most desirable places in the world to live and I can see why. Perth... Just Wait Awhile
Review of Perth (Australia) by  helencbradshaw

Advantages: See Review
Disadvantages: See Review

...Following on from my Sydney in General Opinion, I thought I would expand the series to Perth, where I spent many, many months, living and working as we built a 400 position call centre from scratch, in the area of Joondalup. Thankfully, I had plenty of time at the weekends to explore the region, and taste the wine, which in my expert opinion is the best wine region in Australia – take it from an expert! A Little Bit of Background -------------------------------- Perth is in the State of Western Australia. Perth is in the South West Corner. Western Australia is absolutely massive. It makes up approximately 40% of the entire Australia land mass, and is bigger than Texas and Alaska combined. Most of the state is difficult to cross as it is mainly desert. The first European to see Western Australia was another Dutch... Read review

A short stay at the Perth Ambassador
Review of Perth Ambassador Hotel, Perth by  Looby5

Advantages: Great Value, close to the CBD
Disadvantages: Lacking in va va voom

...As regular readers will know I'm lucky enough to live in the beautiful city of Sydney on Australia's Pacific east coast. I settled on Sydney for no other reason that it's a beach city with a fantastic climate and is vibrant and busy. If I'd have wanted a slightly more relaced pace of life then without question I would have plumped for Perth in Western Australia. Like Sydney it has a temperate climate, beautiful beaches on the Indian Ocean and a thriving economy. I'm currently on my third visit to Perth and I'm fortunate in that I'm here on business and the company are picking up the hotel tab (not to mention the bar tab!). I picked my own hotel and the criteria was that it should not be to far from the office and not to far from downtown area or the CBD (central business district). I'd also stayed in a backpackers hostel in East Perth... Read review

Gee - that's a lucky shag!!
Review of Perth (Australia) by  TheWizardsSleeve

Advantages: plenty to do, relaxed, vibrant, great year round climate & friendly people.
Disadvantages: very remote

...***Background*** I promised to write up our year travelling in my recent review on Manly, Australia and as part of the trip we wanted to do a visit to Perth as we had gotten some free internal Qantas flights in Oz as part of our round the world ticket and thought we may as well fly as far from Sydney as we could given it was free so off we jetted to Perth. Prior to going we booked a hotel on line (web site we used no longer seems active but you can just google the hotel name for plenty of links) and stayed at the Park Royal, Perth for 5 nights but this little trip was simply an excuse to travel back to Sydney in a very unique way – via The Indian Pacific Railway (more on that in a later review). It was sad to say that I went to Perth not wanting or expecting much and was using it more of a stopover for the trip back. Even if I had... Read review

Dinosaurs and diamonds at Perth's museum
Review of Western Australian Museum, Perth by  Jim2003

Advantages: Modern and spacious, good on history and fauna
Disadvantages: Some dioramas need a makeover

...If you are at a loose end in Perth Western Australia, then I recommend you take a look at the WA Museum. This is located at the Perth Cultural Centre, in James Street. It is easy to get to, being near the railway station and Northbridge area in the CBD. It's worth noting that there are free buses that run within the city area in Perth, and they cover a loop which will drop you off at attractions like this. This review covers my impressions of the museum when I visited it in September 2008. It isn't a big museum but that isn't necessarily a shortcoming because some of the displays were rather good in my opinion. I realise that museums aren't really the first thing you'd think of if you were visiting Perth. Possibly you might be more inclined to hit the magnificent beaches, or bike along the miles of cycleways here. But really... Read review

Doing Australia
Review of General: Australia by  mdtt1983

Advantages: The experience, The scenery, Meet new friends, It goes on...
Disadvantages: Need some money first, Travelling time

...been heading west. As such, Perth is rapidly becoming the coolest city in Australia, while Broome is the main stop-off point for the Kimberley Ranges and the Bungle Bungles national park, Australia’s last sanctuary from the Japanese coach parties. To get around, it is best to start with the all-round travel centres like the Travellers Contract Point (www.travellers.com.au) or Backpackerstravel.net.au) for advice on travel passes and booking tours. Group bus tours like Oz Experience (www.ozexperience.com) and Wayward Bus (www.waywardbus.com.au) are a cheap way of crossing the country. But remember, a trip from Cairns to Sydney is 46 hours by bus. Take some good books, and try not to sit next to the Levellers fan who hasn’t washed since Bundaberg. Cash-wise, foods good value and accommodation is also reasonably priced, if you stick... Read review

Good value at the Goodearth hotel, Perth
Review of Goodearth Hotel, East Perth by  Jim2003

Advantages: Central location, good area, value for money, clean and comfy.
Disadvantages: Occasional sagging mattresses, plus check your account carefully.

...Recently I spent four nights at the Goodearth hotel Perth Western Australia. Here's how I got on. I booked my accommodation through hotelclub.com and can report that the website was safe and secure when processing my payment of $A428 for the four nights. At $107 per night (approx 45 pounds) it seemed good value to me. Initially, I tried to book this hotel through a Queensland travel agent. They told me there were no rooms available for the period I wanted, and tried to cajole me into going to another inner city Perth hotel. That was when I tried doing the booking myself on the internet, and fortunately, found accommodation at the Goodearth on the nights I wanted. So Ciao readers should be aware that just because a travel agent states there are no rooms, it is worthwhile trying the internet instead ! On arrival at the hotel... Read review
