Advantages: keeps you on the edge of your seat
Disadvantages: cant think of any really!

...When i sat in the cramped cinema with my exited family i was dreading the start of this movie!But in an amazing turn around: "Pirates Of The Caribbean" has got to be my movie of the year. It`s definitely the best Pirate movie. Ever. Captain Barbossa and his crew are cursed by the gold of Cortes they plundered and as a result when moonlight shines on them they are revealed as the undead skeletons they really are. This is a pirate movie with an Indiana Jones twist, served up with wit and style. To lift the curse, the pirates need the last piece of Cortes` gold and the blood of the child of their shipmate Bootstrap Bill who Barbossa sent to Davy Jones` locker. Davy Jones` locker as in the bottom of the sea, not the little feller who used to sing with The Monkees, savvy? The sheer, shining genius of this movie is the completely bonkers... Read review

Advantages: Funny-Adventure-Action-Gripping-Perfect for all tastes!
Disadvantages: Maybe a little to unbelievable at times

...I very much encourage anyone considering watching this film-to go out NOW and rent it/buy it. Its for everyone. At first-I was totally put off! 'A pirates movie-no way!'. But- I sat down and watched it and too my suprisment-found it to be one of the best films I had seen that year. Want to know why? Well it had everything in it- comedy, sword fights, pirate ships, treasure, Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp. And may I add the casting was superb. Depp very much deserved his oscar nomination for his portrayal of 'drunken rouge' Captain Jack Sparrow. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley-two young budding, fresh faced actors, working well together on screen. And Geofrey Rush- just classic! ...I was expecting great things from the latest addition to the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise however, I have to say I was left feeling a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, Johnny Depp is still very entertaining as the happless and completely amoral Jack Sparrow, Keira Knightely still looks beautiful and Orlando Bloom has grown in confidence since his last outing as Will Turner, it's just there is nothing new. Where the previous film entertained with its originality, Depp's quirky, often hillarious performance as the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow was now 'old hat' and he seemed at times to verge on just being silly rather than clever. ...I really enjoyed this movie, not only when I watched it in the cinema, but also the DVD. Captan Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, really keeps the the audience going with his witty remarks and the well developed character. The movie centers around the Black Pearl and its crew of undead lead by Captain Barbossa. In there search for the last coin of the gold of the Aztecs, they stumble upon a grown up Will Turner, played by Orlando Bloom and his love interest Elizabeth Swan, played by Keira Knightly. This movie is a fast paced action movie in the typical way of Jerry Bruckheimer, with good action sequences, an amazing soundtrack, great location and set pieces. And even if you aren't a fan of pirates you will still enjoy the mix of enjoyable jokes pulled by Jack Sparrow and Will, the romantic interaction between Will and Elizabeth... Read review

...Set in the 17th Century in the Caribbean Sea, Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is a funny, but good guy but he is also a pirate and his ship called the Black Pearl has been taken from him, his is now in search of another ship, any other ship in fact, to go and get the Black Pearl back. Several years earlier the young daugher Elizabeth Swann (Kaira Knightley) of the Governor Weatherby Swann (Jonathan Pryce) while out at sea came accross a young boy Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), around his neck was a pirate medalleon, Miss Swann quickly took this from his neck and kept it for herself but also to hide it from everyone, she did not want everyone to know he was a pirate. Sparrow turned up in their hometown just in time to save Miss Swann from drowning in the sea, but he only ends up being chased and caught to be hung the next morning as a pirate... Read review

...When my friends told me they wanted to see this film I was unsure, I mean I had read good reviews but the thought of a film based on a Disneyland ride was slightly unnerving. Nevertheless, we went along anyway and I was quite surprised. Directed by Gore Verbinski (The Ring, The Mexican). ****************SPOILERS*********************** The plot itself is fairly predictable, evil pirates kidnap a girl, man goes to save her blah blah, happy ending etc. and guess what? There’s a little love story in there too. However, the “baddies” have a slight twist of being ghosts because of a curse…hence the title “The Curse of The Black Pearl”. Johnny Depp (Edward Scissorhands, Chocolat) plays a pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow, who comes across as being slightly drunk and a bit camp, he is very funny and is a joy watch, providing most of the humour...
