...The much awaited third Pirates of the Caribbean game on DS, and, for me, it did not live up to the expectations. Admittedly the idea of being a pirate fighting other people can't be too bad, but so much else was poor: The graphics could have been better. There are not many levels. It doesn't take advantage of the touch screen, it is only really used for boss battles (which are quite good). There is very little skill required in ordinary battles, and so it gets quite repetitive. So, with the exception of the good boss battles and the mini game of liars dice (which can also be played as multiplayer), the game really only got the good publicity because of its name, not the game quality. ...A few weeks ago Shortie turned the very old age of 6. Now Shortie is known for his love of all things cheap and plastic. His favourite toys seem to have a half life of five minutes, or are ridiculously complicated to put together and play with (unless of course you are six years old, in which case they are simple to put together and play with). There is, however one thing that Shortie and his big brother, who is now the ripe old age of 8, love to play with and that is Playmobil. ...depictions of characters as skeletons. I think the 12A rating suits. If you want a film to keep the kids busy for a few hours of the holidays this is a good choice of film for both boys and girls, although don't be surprised if pirate toys are the next "must-have" thing. ...Basically, this CD just reminds me of Pirates of the Caribbean. It's great for playing if I'm in the mood for Pirates of the Caribbean but don't have enough time to watch the whole film, or if I want to just pick my favourite parts. If you haven't seen the film, I'd highly recommend watching it, even if it doesn't seem like your kind of film. Set in the Caribbean, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is trying to take back his ship, the Black Pearl, which was stolen by Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush). When Barbossa attacks the British town Port Royal, the Governor's daughter Elizabeth is kidnapped. Her friend Will is determined to rescue her and obtains the help of Jack. ...When i sat in the cramped cinema with my exited family i was dreading the start of this movie!But in an amazing turn around: "Pirates Of The Caribbean" has got to be my movie of the year. It`s definitely the best Pirate movie. Ever. Captain Barbossa and his crew are cursed by the gold of Cortes they plundered and as a result when moonlight shines on them they are revealed as the undead skeletons they really are. This is a pirate movie with an Indiana Jones twist, served up with wit and style. To lift the curse, the pirates need the last piece of Cortes` gold and the blood of the child of their shipmate Bootstrap Bill who Barbossa sent to Davy Jones` locker. Davy Jones` locker as in the bottom of the sea, not the little feller who used to sing with The Monkees, savvy? The sheer, shining genius of this movie is the completely bonkers... Read review

Disadvantages: Maybe a little to unbelievable at times

...I very much encourage anyone considering watching this film-to go out NOW and rent it/buy it. Its for everyone. At first-I was totally put off! 'A pirates movie-no way!'. But- I sat down and watched it and too my suprisment-found it to be one of the best films I had seen that year. Want to know why? Well it had everything in it- comedy, sword fights, pirate ships, treasure, Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp. And may I add the casting was superb. Depp very much deserved his oscar nomination for his portrayal of 'drunken rouge' Captain Jack Sparrow. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley-two young budding, fresh faced actors, working well together on screen. And Geofrey Rush- just classic! ...When watching a movie at the cinema, the visual spectacle often outweighs the soundtrack to the point that the music itself becomes insignificant: not so with the music from "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl." This soundtrack is a perfect accompanyment to the movie itself, and remains as memorable - its one of the few movies of recent years where I've left the cinema and commented at how good the music was, and how well it fitted. "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" is a good old fashioned pirate movie - an action-romance full of swashbuckling high-seas adventure, humour and epic Caribbean land and seascapes: all of which is reflected in the sountrack. ...Set in the 17th Century in the Caribbean Sea, Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is a funny, but good guy but he is also a pirate and his ship called the Black Pearl has been taken from him, his is now in search of another ship, any other ship in fact, to go and get the Black Pearl back. Several years earlier the young daugher Elizabeth Swann (Kaira Knightley) of the Governor Weatherby Swann (Jonathan Pryce) while out at sea came accross a young boy Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), around his neck was a pirate medalleon, Miss Swann quickly took this from his neck and kept it for herself but also to hide it from everyone, she did not want everyone to know he was a pirate. Sparrow turned up in their hometown just in time to save Miss Swann from drowning in the sea, but he only ends up being chased and caught to be hung the next morning as a pirate... Read review

...Keira Knightley, whom Bend It Like Beckham is now turning into a global star, may be fine and earnest as the love interest here. The governor of the Caribbean’s spunky daughter, she quite happily falls for a blacksmith (Orlando Bloom, who becomes the dashing, risk-it-all hero) - but she also falls off a cliff with the same delightful comic strangeness as Michael Palin did in Monty Python’s fish-slapping contest . Thus she embodies the two tones of a film in which neither is allowed (by Gore Verbinski, the director of The Ring - the American remake) to obliterate the other, with the fun proving much more creative than the tension.
