Czech It Out!!!
Review of Prague (Czech Republic) by
sarahl2002
Advantages: So much to see and do, inexpensive
Disadvantages: Some areas can be a bit rough and seedy
...This is going to be a long one! There is so much to say about this fabulous city! I'd heard of it but didn't even know what country it was in. Decided to visit and really want to go back again!
A FEW FACTS
Prague is the capital city of the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic is in the centre of Europe. Prague is in the centre of the Czech republic. Prague is 496km squared in size and has a population of 1.2million people.
The time zone is an hour ahead of England and they use the two pin plugs.
The Currency is Kc, these are available in from a 1Kc coin up to a 5000kc note. The Kc is divided into 100h, these come in 10,20 and 50h coins. I only ever saw a 50h coin but as they are worth very little are rare. Sometimes places don't have small change so round up and give you more than you are owed.
One thing I would recommend...

Prague when it Sizzles
Review of Prague (Czech Republic) by
dadmancat
Advantages: Scenery, architecture, cheap, welcoming
Disadvantages: pollution, unfathomable language
...Prague, where mullets have never gone out of fashion, where every thing ends in a 'y', where even the dogs and cats smoke, and where, if you play your cards right, you can carve out a rather inexpensive and most rewarding holiday.
You might have to work at it though.
The capital of the Czech Republic, Prague is served by Ruzyne Airport into which fly all the usual assortment of bargain basement airlines and the more recognised carriers too. Despite arriving very early and very bleary eyed, the airport was very easy to navigate, and was compact, concise and really rather clean. So, the chances of you getting lost are nil...until you venture outside of the airport.
Located about 12km to the west of the city, you can reach Prague in a number of different ways. You can take a tram, the bus and then the metro, or take the pick...

PERFECTLY PRAGUE
Review of Prague (Czech Republic) by
purdy
Advantages: Fantastic city, plenty to do and see, beer still relatively cheap
Disadvantages: City is loosing some of its authencity by becoming Westernised with the likes of McDonalds popping up
...lastminute.com or ebookers.com should be well able to point in the direction of this fabulous city.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Prague is the capital city of the relatively small Czech Republic, which lies in the heart of Europe, neighbouring with Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Poland. If like us you are travelling from Europe you needed worry about visas. The majority of locals spoke English, which was a Godsend as Paul, and l spoke zilch Czech and our attempts to do so with the help of our guidebook were pathetic to say the least!
There is a population of approximately 1173000; the city has relatively warm summers and cold winters. Flowing through the centre of the city is the beautiful river Valtava. The city centre can be split in to the following regions all with their own historic interests and sights: Hradcany, Mala Strana (Lesser Town...

Beautiful Prague
Review of Prague (Czech Republic) by
ashford
Advantages: Beautiful baroque architecture,inexpensive,fine culture.
Disadvantages: presence of touts
...overlooking the river is the number one tourist attraction. It is very popular so it is best to get there early in the morning.
The old town is very interesting.There you will find the town hall, a complex of buildings erected between the 14 th and 19 th centuries. A huge clock on an outside wall shows the 12 apostles,Jesus,a sleleton, and a cockerel when it strikes the hour.
Also in the old town is the Baroque Clementinum. Once a Jesuit College,it now houses the state library of the Czech Republic.
Prague is one of Europe's great cultural centres.Charles University dates back to the 14 th century and this lovely city has been home to the likes of Rilke,Kafka,Kundera and the playwright turned President Vaclav Havel. Mozart lived in Prague for a number of years. The city has a great musical traditition and the Czech Philarmonic Orchestra...

Czech Republic, A Time Machine of Adventure
Review of General: Czech Republic by
gt5952
Advantages: Varied Culture, Warm people
Disadvantages: Spoilt by joining the EU
...People talk about the Czech Republic, when they really mean Prague. Prague is like most major cities in Europe, its big, beautiful, and has its own certain cultures to attract tourists, it is however, too commercial for my liking (read my other reviews about what I do, and where I go)
I favour the other side of the coin, and my journey\'s reflect that.
Flying to the Czech Republic is easy, and many do it using it at as a lilly pad to hop to another country, but for me, the only way to experience the world, is by road.
Entering at the German border from Annaberg Buchholz, south ish of Germany, I crossed over to Bozi dar, the same entry point Adolf Hitler used.
The border is as sureal as it gets, on the one side are the German Polizei with their new Police cars, surrounded by oppulence and large old cold war observation points...

Viva Czech Republic
Review of General: Czech Republic by
Plissken
Advantages: Cheap prices, wonderful people, not many English!
Disadvantages: Difficult language to grasp.
...Two days after we get back from Prague, and it's +2C in Ipswich. The previous week we were walking around in -10C in Kutna Hora, and it barely touched us. This island cold soaks through your bones, and you want to be back in that picturesque snowscape again.
This is post-holiday blues, of course. Last time I was in the Czech Republic, I was on a mission to get the girl. This time I was purely on a mission to have a great time, so I carted my mate off to Prague to sample the nightlife. He wasn't too sure - after all, the Czech Republic would hardly feature in most people's top ten destinations for pubbing and clubbing. Well, those people have no idea what they are missing...
Most people will mention the prices, and how ridiculously cheap it all is. Out in the villages, you might pay around 20p a pint. People also moan...

Czech Prague Out
Review of Prague (Czech Republic) by
MAFARRIMOND
Advantages: History, Architecture and Culture
Disadvantages: Lots of walking, steep hills and cobbled streets
...We were planning a weekend break away but the first problem was where. I wanted somewhere with historical interest. David had always been fascinated in the culture of Prague. And so, Prague it was.
Knowing we only had limited time in the city, we wanted to ensure that we got as much as possible from the trip as we could. With this in mind, I set about researching the city and its points of interest using the DK Eyewitness Travel Guide to Prague and the many sites available on the Internet particularly (http://www.prague-tourist-information.com/).
We booked the flight and holiday for the cost of 300 pounds each. We could have paid less but we had specific requirements in mind for the trip. Czech Airlines ran a direct flight from Manchester which gave an arrival time of 10.30 a.m. thereby giving us almost a full two and a half days...

Visiting czech republic
Review of General: Czech Republic by
sansilver
Advantages: value for money, easy to get by in prague ,good for sightseeing
Disadvantages: pickpockets in underground stations, some taxi drivers will overprice you
...I've been to a few places in czech republic namely prague, pardubice, Hradec kralove, Brno, Olomouc. Prague is like almost all major cities in europe with a blend of people of different religion and culture.
Transport system is excellent surprisingly ive never encountered any delays within the country itself except during this one winter where they didnt expect the snow so early. All flights were cancelled and delays on train lines.
I found prague airport quite intriguing.ive never been to a duty free section in a country where there are no electronic shops!!
If you are into drinkin beer then this is definetly the place to be!!Dont forget to have a shot of the famous absinthe!!
Nightlife is quitevarried.Its useful to have a chat with people who have been there before. Radnost is decent for hip hop and RNB music, Duplex is quite...

Beyond Prague: a taste of Czech
Review of Czech Trails by
hiker
Advantages: The other side of Europe: interesting, surprising, varying walks
Disadvantages: Cycle tracks and hotel towels!
...;
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TRANSFERS, TOWNS & STOP-OVERS
The walking was the thing. That was our reason for being in Czech. However, you cannot evaluate such a holiday without consideration of the non-walking days and other interludes. In this case, there was Prague; the transfers from there to Harrachov, thence to Raspenava; those two towns themselves; Frydlant; and at the end of the week, the border village of Srbska. Space prohibits my detailed impressions here and these can be found "Small-town Czech" in the General: Czech Republic section.
CZECHTRAILS: Organisation, Hosts and Guides
A final few words on our hosts. CzechTrails is a small company and a relatively young one. Long-established operations and large companies do offer certain securities and guarantees which may be less reliable when you opt to travel with “the small and local”...
From Prague with love
Review of Prague in general by
mrpaella
Advantages: A magnificent city
Disadvantages: The taxi drivers have a bad reputation
....
For the next 7 hours we had no access to food, water or toilet facilities. Eventually our passports were returned and we set off for Prague. In those days Czechoslovakia was a communist country.
One evening we went to an excellent show of acrobatics and dance. The participants showed plenty of enthusiasm in their performances. There was no fear of communism shown unlike eg the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow.
I felt at that time if the burden of communism was lifted then this country could really prosper.
VISA REQUIREMENTS
Having a British passport meant that I needed no visa for the Czech Republic. But my wife needed a visa and I made 3 trips to the Czech Embassy in Notting Hill to get everything sorted.
My only advice is to be patient. Only one woman was dealing with the visa applications. At the French Embassy there were 10 visa...
