...I stayed in this hotel last summer for three nights during a trip across Quebec province with a friend. Usually our budget does not stretch as far as such a delightful hotel but we managed to pick up a great deal, which is the first good point about this hotel. The hotel was exceptionally easy to find and well located within the city, within easy walking distance of the old town. Our room was spacious and very comfortable, clean and well thought out. The bathroom was particularly nice, and perfect for relaxing. We were also lucky enough to have a fantastic view across the city from the room. The gym and pool were also excellent, and the hotel bar very accommodating. Staff were always polite and helpful. In short I have nothing negative to say about this hotel, and I would recommend anyone to stay here during their stay in the beautiful... Read review

Advantages: A unique city - try it!
Disadvantages: Not for everybody - especially not glitzybods!

...I don’t know why I started to write this opinion but for the fact that I’ve recently returned to work after the long (and not so hot) summer and feel the need to plan my half-term holiday and a cold(er) break. It does help with the sanity somehow, as you can appreciate (the holiday that is - not the temperature)! After recently talking with one of my Canadian friends, I thought of re-visiting Canada during my October week off. I was lucky enough to spend the year abroad of my degree studying at Université Laval in Québec City so it’s a region and country that I’ve come to know pretty well and have always looked upon with more than affection. Advantages: Top quality modern comfort in old setting, wonderful views

...The Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac hotel dominates the cliffs overlooking the St Lawrence in the Old City of Québec. Designed to be a railway hotel for the Canadian Pacific Railway, this fairy-castle like building has expanded since construction started at the end of the 19th century, to become the landmark building for the city. The architects have taken pains to ensure that the hotel does not look out of place with the nearby citadel, and this marriage of old style in new, modern surroundings are much in evidence in the interior. ...Ottawa, Canada's federal capital, does not find its way onto many tourist itineries, it is really too far from Toronto to be worth the trip, although it is much easier to make the journey from Montreal. Geographically, politically and culturally, the city bestrides the border between Francophone Quebec and Anglophone Ontario. The Ottawa River runs through the City, dividing the city of Ottawa (on the Ontario side) from the city of Hull (on the Quebec side). In effect, it is the same city, but the citizens of each are particularly proud so you might not want to mention this too loudly! Most of the points of interest are on the Ontarian side, in Ottawa proper. Of course there is the Parliament Building itself, which, perhaps unsurprisingly, is a little reminiscent of the Houses of Parliament in London. There is a little cat sanctuary... Read review

..., not policing, diversity, not assimilation, and that the beaver is a truly proud and noble animal. A toque is a hat, a chesterfield is a couch, and it is pronounced 'zed' not 'zee', 'zed' !!!! Canada is the second largest landmass! The first nation of hockey! and the best part of North America My name is Joe!! And I am Canadian!!! The Rant was mainly addressing American misconceptions about Canada, as well as highlighting was makes Canada different from the US. Canadians are not Americans, even if Canada is "the best part of North America". But underlying that is the diversity of Canada. To really understand Canada, you need to appreciate that different parts of Canada are not like each other either. Yet somehow, the whole thing hangs together. Advantages: Never dies, incredible handling, easy do-it-yourself repairs
Disadvantages: repairs are frequent an sometime costly after 200,000 km

...My first and only car (yet) is a Wolks Jetta 1990 (diesel). The car war first owned by an uncle, then father who passed it to me in 1996 with 150,000 km. I've managed to take it from Quebec to British-Columbia, Florida, Main, and weekly trips for an actual total of 478,555 km (about 300,000 miles). The day it will go down on me, I assure I will search and find another 1990-1991 diesel Jetta. Here in North America, most of the Wolkswagen sold around are built in Mexico and unfortunately, they are not quite the same cars as those built in Europe - different engine, different suspension, exhaust system, an so on.. Although, only since 1991-1992 did they decide to built the engines on the continent rather than selling imported ones, which makes the models like that I owe much tougher that latter models. Advantages: sound knowledge of forensics
Disadvantages: can be a bit too descriptive sometimes!

...I have to say I love this book! Temprance Brennan (main character) is a Forensic Anthropoligist in both Quebec (Canada) and Charlotte (USA). 'The bones of a woman are descovered in the grounds of an old abandoned monestery' The main plot circulates around the main characters belief that there is a serial killer on the loose, ending with the murder of her best friend and almost her own death, with slight romantic urges towards a Police officer Andrew Ryan, who does pop up either in name or person through out most this novel run. Kathy Reichs is very descriptive and explanitory on all the forensic aspects, but not to the detrament of the story. The author is also well aware of the lead, being as the lead is basically a mirror of herself and her real job and life. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy a more 'scientific... ...Globespan I’ve just got back from a holiday in Canada which my friend and I had booked through Globespan. Our tour included Niagara Falls, Toronto, Montreal and Quebec. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before? So many things. I was living in Quebec for the first part of it so it was more like the end of 2003 but I went husky dog sledding – it was so amazing and if you ever get chance to do it – you definitely should! I also went skiing and snowboarding for the first time. Starting eating proper food that I never used to – ie vegetables! 2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for this year? Well, my new year’s resolution was to stop smoking and I didn’t keep to it unfortunately. Advantages: Many beautiful sights with lots of shopping and cafes
Disadvantages: Only if you need to speak French

...and then speeding away again. We rode it just for the fun of it, beginning and ending at McGill Station. The European atmosphere of Montreal was very interesting. Quaint little sidewalk cafes and french speaking owners. We had been told that the french speaking people of Quebec were very rude to outsiders, but we found this not to be true. They were polite, courteous and friendly and very eager to see that we had an enjoyable time. We took a tour of the city and saw where the Montreal Expos play and where the World Fair had been. If we wanted to gamble, there was a casino across the river. The weather was very nice. We needed a jacket at night and in the shade, but it was pleasant in the sun. However, a week later there was a terrible ice storm and the city was completely shut down. We took a lovely tour into the beautiful countryside... Read review
